Perpetuum Online (EVE -spaceships, +mechs)

I thought about BP as it has that element of identification with your ship, and the idea of actually flying your ship, as opposed to piloting it might appeal as it seemed from the forum rage that most of those complaining were pvp'ers, so might like the idea of flying and shooting others. I also thought of it from a mining/resource gathering point of view, as that seemed overly complex and fiddly when I tried it, which also might appeal to some Eve'ers.

Never heard of the other one.

Giving this ago - not because of the CCP/EvE, still love EvE; love mechs also!

well I was willing to give this a shot as I'm still itching for a sandboxy-type Sci-Fi MMO that's not EVE Online. Also Big Mechs = Thumbs up!

But the downloaded client installer crashes out halfway while trying to download the client files whenever I try to install it. Anyone experienced the same thing?

Yes on both my Windows and Linux (which is Windows emulation). It just picked up where it left off...

Yep, kept trying and eventually it was able to download all the client files needed and ran.

Woah! Not what I was expecting, it's like trying to play a spreadsheet all over again. Sure I can move my little mech around directly but there is no feel to it whatsoever. There is a distinct lack of polish and in running the tutorial missions it crashed to desktop twice. Once again I like the concept and idea but the execution is lacking. While I can see it attracting the EVE refugees, I don't see it keeping anyone else.

part of the problem right now is that the servers are getting really hammered by the new influx of players, so until they can square that away server crashes/long login waits/lag are a part of life

Yup, today seems really bad - tried for like 30 minutes... However, once I have gotten I do enjoy it and imagine this is how EvE started out so I kind of feel like a pioneer!

they took the servers down briefly to live test a server fix, seems like lag is worse since then but i imagine their pinning down what the issue is

after getting a seq last night i already made enough money to buy myself an artemis mech! courier missions are kind of broken

This has been running really solid this weekend. I really enjoy the feeling of being on ground zero of a new sandbox...

Free trial currently going on for another 9 days to show off some new features and updates. I'm on as Mixolyde in the ICS-DF. It's pretty close to 2D Eve with robots.

There's a new big update that introduces corporate control of certain resource sites. Anyone playing who can give us some info on how the game has evolved?

and.. necro..
Looks like the game is still pretty inactive (dead really; to give an idea the top 20 pvpers for the last 30 days have from 7 up to a whopping 38 kills) but I discovered today it has been greenlit on steam.

They're promising things like a new player experience with a better tutorial and such but looking around the site there's sadly no clearly defined date for this and other promised features.

I know I shouldn't be hopeful but I'd really like to see this one pull forward, maybe the greenlight will drive that while helping populate the game.

even more perspective. That greenlight offering started close to 6 months ago I believe. It went up before Darkfall.

Got this email couple days ago:

Hello, Agent!

It's the end of subscriptions

We’re excited to announce that in preparation of the upcoming Steam launch, on April the 2nd Perpetuum will be changing its payment model. The subscription model will be dropped in favor of a single purchase of 28.99 USD/EUR, and augmented with optional in-game purchases of previously unavailable services and cosmetic upgrades.

Free Copies to Veterans - See if You’re Eligible!

On April the 2nd, any Perpetuum account that has had at least 3 months of active game time (ever) will be reactivated and converted to a lifetime account.

If your account only has 1 or 2 months of active game time on it, you have until April the 2nd to get the missing months, otherwise you'll need to purchase the game at full price later. We’ve set up an eligibility check on the Perpetuum website so you can see if your account will be converted or not.

See all the details about this and more on our devblog.

We've been busy with stuff

It’s been a long road to this point because we had to make sure that we can provide the best experience for the potentially massive number of new players that being Greenlit on Steam means. We have a brand new techtree-based research system, a completely revamped assignment system, and most importantly, a vastly impro ved new player experience that is lightyears ahead of the old tutorial.

The exact date of our Steam launch will be announced along with the patch on April 2.

These are exciting times for Perpetuum - we look forward to welcome back old veterans and meet a lot of new players. See you in-game!

The Perpetuum Team

Well, it's officially launching today. Any further word? Is it worth trying out?

I'm not sure it will ever recover at this point, it'll be interesting to see if the "launch" boosts the player base enough though.
