Post a Picture - Something You Created!

Well one thing I made, while setting up my YT channel stuff was to update my avatar for Twitch.

Given I'm starting with V:tM for my lore series (ahhhhh, Bloodlines 2!)...

Well, in a fit of insomnia and manic time... I not only finished the syllabus I'll be working from throughout the VtM lore series, I also wrote up a whole script for the first episode which serves as kind of an introduction, a review of what's, generally, in that syllabus that I'll be covering over the next however many months, along with a few caveats on things (like hey, while these videos are meant to be informational for other fans of the game(s), etc... they are by no means written in stone if you're planning on playing a game set somewhere and want to change things for your story, etc... etc...).

So, yeah. Now I just gotta find some folks (and I have a few YTers for VtM stuff who might) to read this and critique it for me while I start figuring out recording it then storyboarding it in Vegas Movie Studio. :O

It's weird, so many creative endeavors have been "i have an idea" and then just nothing... and this I just keep pushing forward on.

Went out for a walk with the wife after work last night. Brought my camera along as always, figuring I'd at least see some birds or turtles.

Spoiler:

I didn't.

Suddenly, the sky actually started getting color. Quite a bit of color, and rapidly. The problem, however, is that the forest preserve I was in has, get this, fairly tall trees. And all the color was low on the horizon, not up above the treeline. I had to act.

I grabbed my wife by the arm, and, nearly dislocating her shoulder, shoved her unceremoniously into the car. I tossed my camera at her. "Hold this," I said, in such a way that my above actions immediately seemed extremely cool and not at all rude.

Off we raced to another preserve. This one a prairie. Usually not too many tree problems in the prairie. And we have a lot of prairies around here. This is The Prairie State, I'm told. I laid a smoking trail of rubber leading into a parking spot, grabbed my camera bag (full of filters and polarizers and things), and my tripod, and I left my lovely wife coughing up the dust I left in my wake as I sprinted off to find a composition.

I found one. But there was no time. No time to muck about with the things that make a landscape photographer feel comfortable. No delayed shutter. No remote shutter release. No polarizer. No soft-edged graduated filter. No time to bracket exposures. No time to TRIPOD. I was doomed.

The scene was too wide even for my 16mm lens. Sometimes the sky is big. I knew I was going to have to take multiple shots and create a panorama. No problem. But the light was fading fast, and with no tripod to take long exposure shots, I knew I was going to have to raise my ISO and make my shutter as slow as I could while still getting a sharp image.

And oh boy, did I accomplish exactly the opposite of that.

Funny thing about trying to take a panorama shot in bad light at slow shutter speeds. You actually really do need to stop completely before depressing the shutter button. No seriously, 100% not moving. Because, get this, if you don't? Motion blur. Yep. Bizarre, I know, and totally unforeseeable. But there you have it.

Maybe half of my shots were "usable." Maybe. And even those that were sharp were noisy as hell. But I decided to create the panorama out of those shots anyway. And as I sat there and looked at a mess of pixels, it occurred to me that, for some indiscernible reason, I still really liked the composition. Could I save it?

I am not an "art" photographer. I like nature. I like animals and plants and beautiful vistas. And I like my shots to be tack sharp. I'm a pixel-peeper. I'm not proud of this fact. I throw out images that most completely normal and sane people would be happy with, simply because I can't see enough detail in the skin surrounding the eye of that finch. It's dumb. But it's who I am. Yes I realize the implications.

But what if I took those big, ugly pixels and made them.. bigger? And painted on them? And completely annihilated the light levels? And kept the colors and the shapes and the things I loved about the composition, but made the things I didn't.. the noise, the blur, the not-so-great foreground... no longer a factor?

Could I do that and not make it look like the trash I was doing when learning Photoshop in the 90s? I have no idea. Baby's First Use of Filters? You decide. And by all means, let me know, and honestly..if you feel like doing so. This is *way* out of my comfort zone.

{Composite image (16 shots). Corrected in Lightroom, exported to Photoshop as smart object. Layer duplicated 3x. Mix of 2 filters w/ varying opacity and then massive level adjustments w/ a blur}

Lub it.

Both da words and da pretty pitcher.

Linking the post to my wife who will also like it.

ps. Want to see it in all its glory? Right-click the pic, open in new tab and it blows up to full size. In the words of Brian Regan... "It's... big"

Yay!
You've no idea how happy that makes me. This really is something new for me.
Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah... I thought about shrinking it, but I like that you can see the textures and whatnot at full size.

Child's birthday card based on Mob Psycho 100 which I know nothing about. She's called Eve and it's her 14th birthday hence 'EvePsycho 14'.

Well, got a few VtM player veterans (one LARPer, 2 Tabletoppers) to check over my intro video script, got some information from one of them who has been pretty heavily tracking Bloodlines 2 like I have... and now I have a revised script that I think is just about ready to go.

Still open to any feedback as recording will likely be like later in the week, then working on some imagry/video capture from Bloodlines 1, but... yay!

This may be a stretch, since he's not our kid biologically, but Kit and I had a big hand in forming who he is, now, so I guess he's kind of something we "made".

This is my nephew Shane. He's on leave between Marine Basic and Marine Combat Training. Today is his 21st birthday.

My step-sister was very sick for a long time, with the same rare lung disease her mother died from. She and Shane moved here in May of 2012 and bought our house and we bought another close by. She passed away 5.5 years ago and Shane moved in with us. He changed a lot from who he was at 15.5 yrs old to who he is now.

We're so damned proud of him and proud to call him our kid and our Marine.

ps. Try to ignore my ghost taking a picture in the reflection...

Congratulations!

I dunno if this is really the right place on the forums to do this, but I have a creative question/need assistance!

I'm working on a video project to upload during some downtime after getting laid off/adopting a dog who has some health needs we're sorting out/helping mom figure out a car situation post-grandma passing (yeah, it's been a weird few months)...

ANYWAY, I want to make some Lore video series... basically prepping myself but helping others as well with games I'm interested in that are coming up. So I've got kind of a project list, but... part of this is learning a new skill as well...

So, I'm looking for a decent, but not like 400+ dollar piece of software for video editing. Something that will allow me to put up images, clips from games, etc. that I can use as a backdrop for some narration... or occasionally as the focus.

Someone upthread reference SonyVEGAS for cheap in Humble Bundles. Timely timely as it’s in a current bundle now!

Thank you! I looked back through a dozen threads to see who asked about this the first time and failed.

Woo! Thank you both!

Update on Project, nothing concrete to show yet, I'm working on the video capture from part of Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 1. First script (and part of the second one) are all done and ready for recording... amusingly I am not instead.

Came down with a gum infection (thank you soft teeth and ridiculously high costs of pulling/dentures), so part of my face and mouth is swollen and hurts like hell. Already on meds for it, just waiting for it to die down then I can move ahead.

Looking forward to seeing the results

I am officially finished with uni now (just waiting for results) so I need to look st some method of actually earning some income now

While I’m looking for some local freelance stuff I’m thinking about creating some mini modules for the dms guild. I’ve got one I was making for my Patreon page which is almost done (just needs illustrations) , and I’m working on a separate quicker mini side dungeon which I’ll probably do as part of a series. (I’m thinking of doing a set of mini dungeon encounters that can be used for the “mystery map” players find at the end of the phandelver campaign).

Will post more about both soon, but for now you can check out my Patreon page (see link below) for updates!

and here's the front cover for my mini dungeon encounters project!

Mini spoilers for the Phandelver intro campaign...

Spoiler:

Mormesk is a crotchety Wraith in the final dungeon of the campaign, who guards the aforementioned map to [blank]. The Flameskull is also a (repeat) antagonist in the final dungeon - ESPECIALLY if certain players decide to put it in their backpack as a trophy without first checking to see if it was REALLY dead, and not just temporarily dead. (They did, they didn't, and it definitely wasn't ).

I'll not post anything about this first dungeon as of yet because i want to run my Euro GWJ group through it first, but i'll post a preview of it afterwards and hopefully it'll be available once I write it up, either on my Patreon page or maybe the DMs Guild if I can figure out how that all works!

Love it. I really like the style, the details, and the "?" banner under the heron.

Good stuff!
