Made some doughnuts for a Memorial Day bbq. grenn was very excited.

The first person to eat one exclaimed, "It's still warm!" Told them they were only minutes old. I fried them, boxed them up, and went right over to the party.

Video

They look delicious.

My wife wants me to make donuts so bad, but she won't eat them so I haven't yet. She wants to consume them with her nose.

Holy hell I want several of those right now...

There's got to be a Yankee candle for that, surely?

Ha! A simulation is never as good as the real thing!

This is a video project I've started working on. This version is a proof of concept. I've taken 8 minutes and added stills. My software is basic and I don't seem to be able to soften the transitions between shots.

There are two recordings of my Granddad being interviewed on the radio. He was fully blind mid way through his life but carried on gardening with great success. Too much success when it came to marrows; many of which we received. The photos are a mixture of shots from my father's greenhouse and bits of plant life from walks. I've tried not to show too many exotic hanging baskets, etc because that could give the impression he could do that kind of thing.

I'm thinking of heading to the local allotments and taking pics there.

Edit: Eventually I'm going to some up with a less sappy title.

oho! apparently my local Waterstones accepts bookmarks to sell on behalf of local folks...I must investigate further when I get a second.

Might be another summer project for me to sink my teeth into.

*alas, when I asked in-store, it turns out they USED to do this but stopped about a year ago. Curses!

Oh well. I still have some ideas for bookmarks based on classic science fiction and horror stories, so maybe I'll stick at it and put them on Etsy or something.

My take on beef lo mein.

Here I am, shamelessly butchering the work of Lumberjanes Illustrator Brooke Allen. (Sorry!)

butcher it all you want! Keep it up!

I'm on a roll.... for the 52 Week Challenge (catchup no 2 - 'feathered animal')

Ooh I like that one! I've nearly finished whimsy. Wouldn't expect too much though, it's been a while since I've drawn something that aren't logo roughs or doodles where don't know what's coming one line to the next.

I've set myself a couple self imposed rules... Try and get done in under 60 minutes and no computer usage including colour (apart from scanning and knocking the background to white).

It's rather disconcerting to discover just how much I've leaned on the comp for everything I do for so long. Especially when at uni I was all about the handmade graphics. This project'll be good for me I think.

So this took me pretty much all day yesterday to draw and it's still nowhere near finished (needs to be cleaned up, coloured and I need to replace all the temporary text with proper typefaces and stuff)

BUT.... The basic gist is that someone on my Facebook friends list did a "50 objects" challenge (draw a scene with 50 different objects in it). I decided to have a stab at that too, but instead of 50 objects, I've include slightly more than 50 *references* to horror/supernatural themed fiction (books, movies, some games).

Some of these should be fairly obvious, others about as obscure as I could hopefully make them. Others might be extra tricky until they are coloured properly.

Gotta catch 'em all!

IMAGE(https://smackfolio.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/horror11.jpg)

(Once it's fully finished, I'll post a list of each reference included)

*side note : any crappy perspective and angles aren't a subtle reference to Lovecraftian non-euclidean geometry, it's just 'cause i didn't have a ruler to hand

This is awesome. Reminds me of the "Games 100" contest I used to enter when I was a kid.

That's awesome, pyxistyx!

Still working on the colour version of my horror pic, but in the meantime, here's a horror-ish doodle which should hopefully fullfill the criteria for week 23 of the illustration challenge (texture)...

I'm about to finish The Troop by Nick Cutter. This could be the cover art.

Because such things matter greatly, i'm disturbed that I can't tell from the art whether those tendrils are mechanical, botanical, ophidian or vermicular.

I've yet to get around to The Troop. I read the other book under that pen name (The Deep) which was AMAZING though, so I will definitely be picking it up sooner rather than later. (Also, "Little Heaven" which is apparently out next month. Convenient!)

Ok...I am officially sick of the sight of this, so I'm calling it done. There's 56 (i think) horror movie game, movie or book references in this image. I'll add the answers in a spoiler tag shortly, but for now here's the image...

My good friend Carl who is SuperBlack on these forums was gracious enough to make me a new logo and avatar for my gaming identity Tempest. I think it turned out awesome!

More of his work can be found on his site

He also does a podcast/site called Super Black celebrating and highlighting minority superheroes.

Wow, that is cool! I love the chromatic aberration effect.

Nice. That's a sweet design. I wish wish wish I could have been good at art.

Here is an old attempt at rebranding this very website. I still like this direction. May use the style for another client.

Neato!

It has a sort of old school 50's TV vibe to it. I am thinking along the lines of Bewitched or I Dream of Genie.

Good eye. I took cues from the Stan character. He is firmly trapped in the 50s.

I've been thinking about tackling some sort of project to highlight some of the women creators of comic books throughout the years but I've not really settled on how I want to tackle it just yet.

In the meantime, did a quick sketch of one of the earliest, Nell Brinkley, (1886 - 1944) creator of 'the Brinkley girl' and often called 'the Queen of comics' thanks to her 40 years illustrating New York periodicals.

I tried to make it look along the lines of Nell's style of drawing, just for fun.

I love this idea. Love it.

A nice series of posters would be pretty great. Or a video / podcast series informing people about all the dope women of comics. Run with this idea. Run like baby wolves!
