Zune Software -- Stop it from Auto Loading?

Anyone know where I find the setting in the Zune software to keep it from auto-loading? It randomly loads up to make sure nothing needs to sync with my wife's Zune, and I cannot find the setting to turn that off.

I know I could dig into the underbelly of Windows and shut it down, but it seems like it should be easier than that.

Settings>Software>General and unchecking "Start the Zune software when I connect a player"?

But is it truely random or is something triggering it?

It's not really digging into the underbelly of windows, heh, if you have Win7 or Vista, you just press the Windows key, type MSCONFIG and press enter.

then choose Selective Startup, then go to the Startup tab and disable it.

The above method is only recommended for troubleshooting and not permanent use. First try General Crispins method and if that doesn't work you can manually stop the service from auto-starting.

To do this click on the windows key then type "Computer Management" in the box. If it is windows XP you can get to the same console by right-clicking on my computer and selecting "Manage". There will be a list of control panels on the left. Select the one that says "Services and Applications" then select "Services". Browse to the Zune service then double click on it. You can then change the startup type from automatic to manual.

That's just it, I'm not connecting a player! The software just randomly loads up. It did it on my old Vista machine, too, so I figured it was a "feature."

I'll try the service change.

Edit: It was already on manual... grrr..

That's weird.

Can't the Zune periodically sync your library wirelessly? Do you think that's all it is? If that's it, isn't there a manual sync option?

Edit: Sorry, I'm an idiot, that's exactly what you're asking.

Settings->Device (the next tab over at the top, which reads "Software | Device | Account")->Wireless Sync.

Take it off the charger.

My daughter's fires up every so often as long as it's on her alarm clock/dock. Stupid software launches in the middle of me using the notebook downstairs while she's sleeping.

If the Zune isn't on the dock, it doesn't fire off. Since I needed the Zune on the dock I turned off wireless sync.
