"Irrational Behavior" -- The new Irrational Games Podcast

http://irrationalgames.com/insider/i...

In any game development studio, you’ll find a bunch of inspired and imaginative people who have a lot to get off their chests. To save on counseling fees, we decided to sublimate these repressed feelings about their gaming lives by sticking a microphone in their faces and creating a series of podcasts that offer an insight into what makes us – and our games – tick.

Each podcast will explore a particular theme in what we hope is an entertaining and insightful way, and this theme will also evolve throughout the month on the Irrational Games website itself. Visit regularly and you’ll find content on the site that helps illustrate what we’re trying to describe in the podcast, or expands and explores the theme further.

This has been instantly added to my RSS aggregator.

Developer Podcasts are Hit and Miss with me... They all seem to devolve into Tech Talk that I have only the slimmest knowledge of after a while. But with people like Ken Levine and Shawn Elliott around this one has the most potential to hold my attention.

As a coder myself, I kind of wish there was a game developer podcast that was completely tech related. But hearing designers talk is cool too.

But hearing designers talk is cool too.

Dog in a wheelchair? :D

That ending had me cracking up!

First Dev Podcast I'm listening to... I want more of those. I'm very interested in all the design and implementing process. I would love to hear devs talk about scrapped projects/ideas on all the games I play. They should all release Director's Cut versions of their games

Somebody please let me know when it's up on iTunes.

Awesome. Thanks.

Posting to track.

If you go to Advanced -> Subscribe to podcast and paste in http://irrationalgames.com/insider/i..., you will be subscribed to the podcast even though it isn't in the iTunes directory yet.

Thanks mud,

I did that and it started downloading immediately.

What can they talk about if their latest project is all hush-hush?

Dog in a wheelchair, mainly.

What else do you need? Or want?

Occasionally a frog with a funnel for an ass. But mostly dog in a wheelchair.

Note to other listeners: do not listen to the last 2-3 minutes of the podcast while driving. I had a hard time keeping my eyes on the road due to the fact that I was laughing so hard.

This was a fairly amazing first episode, mainly because of the format. It's nice to hear a short, interesting podcast from company that isn't all internviews with people saying how cool their new game is. Not that other company podcasts are terrible but the editing in this one really makes it stand out, which is apparently due to the audio director Jim Bonney.

Yeah, the production value and the content is miles above any other developer podcast I've heard. Jeff Green is listening to this somewhere and crying. The bar has just been raised.

That was great. Wow does Division 9 ever sound like Left 4 Dead. I kept waiting for them to say "And then we sold it to Valve."

It's up on iTunes now

I don't want to blow your guys' minds, but someone posted this on the Irrational Forums:

Behold! In all its glory!

DOG IN A WHEELCHAIR!

Awesome podcast.

I'm hoping hoping hoping hoping that, from the way they described Division 9, that their secret project is the X-Com shooter. Their description of the base building and dynamic events sounds like it would make an incredible game.

This reminded me a lot of Mark Rosewater's Making Magic columns for Wizards of the Coast. There are some great design tidbits mixed in there, and because it's created by the developers, it's much more likely to contain substance than PR fluff.

Yes, yes it does.

I really get a "A Life Well Wasted" vibe from the format of the podcast. And that is a great thing!!

Yup, definitely seemed influenced by ALWW and in turn This American Life/Radio Lab. That last bit at the end seemed to be directly influenced by the running joke at This American Life where they splice in some audio from the show and attribute it to their producer. Loving it.

Never listened to This American Life, but I also agree that Sean Elliott took a few pages from Robert Ashley when he was producing the podcast.

Ashley's show is heavily influenced by This American Life.

Yeah, I think they made the right choice with the little girls. I'd waste those things simply to put them out of their misery.

Hear how the design didn’t work on this month’s Irrational Behavior podcast.

I think we've got the answer to how often they're gonna put out Podcasts.
