Google Android catch-all

Anyone have a lenovo tab p11 pro? If so how you like it.

Heads up that it looks like T Mobile is double counting data usage on 5g-enabled phones. Might not matter if you're in an unlimited plan, but in my case I'm trying to stay under 2gb a month for the kickback benefit. This glitch, which they so far refuse to recognize, seems to be avoidable by disabling 5g.

Glad my Titan Pocket only does 4G! *ducks, runs out of room*

LTTP but I have the 4G A32 and I'm pretty happy with it in general use. I opted for the 4G because I preferred the better screen resolution and cameras. And I haven't had any problems with it feeling sluggish.

I went with the Samsung Galaxy A32 and not finding it sluggish either, and the screen is perfectly fine for me that's never had an oled anything.

But there are a bunch of niggles where things were better on my old phone. E.g. the fingerprint scanner doesn't work as well. The battery has good capacity but it seems slower to charge. I miss the gestural stuff on the oppo, drawing a V to get the flashlight and three finger swipe to screenshot was pretty great. I can possibly enable something like that, haven't dug in to everything yet.

So that screen to the left of the main home screen that has a bunch of Google news bullshit on it, what's it called and how can I change it or turn it off does anyone know?

It depends on what launcher you have. I'm pretty sure Samsung puts their launcher on everything. Long press on the homescreen and scroll to the left and you should be able to turn it off. If you have the stock launcher, uninstalling Google Now should get rid of it.

On a Motorola, it's a long press of the home screen, then "Home settings", then change the Swipe Access default.

This did it, thank you.

Google Pixel 6 event happening later today. Spouse is super hyped and I have been cleared to lock in two Pro devices in whatever manner makes the most sense. Unfortunately I am scheduled to be in a school building in the middle of farm country when it happens. Granted I'm checking 'Google' news, but it seems that early leaks about performance and possible pricing have been positive.

Are there any decent midrange Android tablets on the market right now? We are looking into buying 2 for our daughters, but iPads are notoriously difficult to find in stock.

The 10.1" Galaxy Tab A 2019 is...fine. I guess the Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 is its successor.

I have had good luck with Woot sales on refurb iPads. I've looked at android and fire tablets and come away pretty meh.

District guest networks!

I'm still on 3A. Wondering if I should grab a cheap 5A once the 6 is available or get back on the main path. Had the OG pixel but liked the smaller screen of the A-series once those started. Hmm... Guess I'll watch and see.

I preordered a 256 GB Pixel 6 Pro. Been rocking a Pixel 2 forever and had to wipe it recently thanks to no security updates and a sneaky old barcode scanning app. Getting it for that camera. Always into photography stuff. The Pixel 2 was the first mobile where I felt the camera was acceptable.

Camera looks nice. That's a big jump between 6 and pro though, not sure. Definitely thinking about the 6.

Got a 6 Pro for myself and a 6 for my wife on the Pixel Pass plans; it would have just been me, but there was still a pretty good trade in on her Pixel 5, so the total cost for upgrading hers was pretty minimal.

Thanks guys. I just ordered 2 iPads 10, and will wait it out. I work for an Apple reseller so the price is pretty decent.

Android tablets are a wasteland right now, storage capacity is about the only advantage over iPads. But I'm not willing to pay about the same for an Android tablet with a worse screen, slower performance and questionable update policies.

I have a Kindle Fire but really only for YouTube kids and watching other videos. The performance is exactly what you’d expect for the price.

So the Pixel launch was a Hot Sauce soaked tire fire. Their store buckled almost immediately and was essentially inaccessible for three hours Tried to get the Pixel plan, but we checked about 5 of the boxes of the list of exclusions for eligibility.
Tried to order the phones through Fi (I'm a subscriber) at about hour two. Orders went through and after about 15 minutes were cancelled due to processing errors. Back to the store and after another hour of refreshing the cart the order for two phones went through.

Was it worth it? We'll see.

I've pretty much moved to Windows tablets. I have Nexus 10 that still works for video and read/browsing. If I need anything more than that I grab my Surface.

I'm not handing my Surface to the kids.

Good point. I'm on my second surface because my son fell asleep with my first one and kicked it off the bed. It still works but the crack causes phantom touches.

The 6 Pro and the Pixel Pass is very tempting, but I'm not sure I'm willing to be a guinea pig for a new phone release. I'll probably wait until more reviews or time in the wild has passed.

Weird, I casually looked at the Fi store last night and all seemed fine. Can't decide which one to get still. But I did see they have free earbuds for another week. Not huge but something nice since I still have wired ones for my pixel 3A.

Pixel pass seems interesting but I really don't know that I need the YouTube premium stuff. That's a lot of money for $5 off my phone bill.

YouTube without ads? Priceless. Once you have it you'll never go back.

I mean I already have it on Chrome with ad block? Only see ads when using YouTube app on TV or something

I pay for YT Premium, but you can sideload YT Vanced to have ad free YT on your phone. That's what I would be doing if I wasn't sharing my family plan with a bunch of iPhone users.

Android 12 lock screen is nuts. What drunk programmer thought time displayed vertical made sense? Or not to give a f*cking option... Ugh

Right now according to my phone.

I thought they had that mode for a long time (just not default).
