Google Android catch-all

Welp, Sprint offered me a solid deal on an upgrade: A Samsung Galaxy Note10+ for only a few bucks more than my Essential. It’s been two years, it’s time.

Anyone have a tennis app that sends out notifications when matches begin? Something that can track players.

No tennis app knowledge here, sorry.

So I've had this Note 10+ for over a week now, and so far I love it. Face recognition is GREAT, it's very speedy, very loud, and the battery life, so far, is god damned fantastic.

Only weirdsy is that I've no idea what to do with the pen/stencil thing. I keep forgetting it's there.

When I had a Note, I never used the stylus. When they created the 8+, it seemed like exactly what I wanted. Two years later, it has been fine, but I don't want another curved screen.

I owned a Note 4 and pretty much never used the stylus either.

It's handy those handful of times when you actually think, "it would be useful to draw on this diagram". The rest of the time, it stays put away.

I think I'll use it more now that I know I can take screencaps with it, something I do ALL THE TIME and then crop after.

I would be so happy of Asus brought the ROG Phone 2 to Verizon, but I highly doubt it will. Too bad - that phone checks a ton of boxes for me...

That's the phone that I've got my eye on. Just waiting to see how much. I've read around $850.

I no longer buy phones from the provider. If it can't be bought at retail (either online or a box store) and used with any provider, it is not worth it. I am interested in the ROG Phone 2 and really hope they make it fully open.

I read about the ROG phone 2 since y'all mentioned it, but the article was extremely short on details regarding why I would need such a thing.

Same reason any of us need a thousand dollar personal pocket computer.

Edit: A more serious answer. I like the massive battery, dual front facing speakers, expandable storage, headphone jack, and a massive screen with no notch/cutout. The gaming part is just icing on the cake that I'll probably scrape off. A lot like people do with that S pen.

IT HAS AIR TRIGGERS!

Seriously, it's designed for gaming, which means it has better cooling and they slapped in a gaming mode which frees up your RAM just for gaming. So there's some actual added benefit if you're super into gaming. Heat is the #1 issue in any mobile device, so if their marketing is legit than that alone might be worth the investment.

Edit: Oh, and it has a dock and is basically Asus's version of the Switch.

Had Android 10 install on the Pixel 3. Overall pretty good. I have to get use to the task manager partial hold slide up gesture. Also...tiny gripe about darkmode. It makes Google calendar widget dark too. Can't see the text!!! Unsure how to fix.

Yeah dark mode has kinks but overall much better.

Double.

Is this a place for Android Games?

Games are here: https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

Everytime I see a dark theme option and try it I can't read any text. It is much easier on my eyes when it is black on white. Is it an option or forced?

Option under system settings

Asus announces ROG Phone II Ultimate Edition with 1TB of storage

I'm only using a quarter of my 128 gigs. I don't know what I could even think about doing with 1TB.

Everyone sing along:

A terabyte is really really great! (For porn!)

Well, we're getting so close to my holy grail: one device that I can use for everything: a phone plus gaming device plus desktop mode so I can use a full keyboard/mouse, windowed-apps experience. My S10+ is close with Samsung Dex, but not quite there yet. But I would need the 1TB or more if that were to happen.

I took the plunge and upgraded my pixel 3 to Android 10. I messed around with the gesture navigation, but within five minutes of playing with it, I had several failed attempts at actually going back, and one of accidentally swiping away something in the app. It might work better at some point, but with so many apps using swipe rights and left hand menu drawers, adding another control that will sometimes get confused with those is a step back. Switched back to the two button nav.

One definite downside is that I've gotten really used to using the swipe left/right at the bottom to switch apps. That worked even from the home screen, so a quick swipe at the bottom from there would get you back to what you were doing last. In 10, that still works when you're in an app and have the nav buttons visible, but from the dashboard, swiping once brings up your last app (that's good!), but to switch to any previous ones needs a second swipe (that's bad). We'll see how it goes after using it a while.

Has anybody found a way to make the new version of Android Auto NOT default to Maps?

It is making me irrationally angry.

I'm trying to get the damn thing to not randomly change audio apps.

I haven't had any issues with it switching off of Waze, but I have had it randomly switch from Spotify to Amazon Music several times. I uninstalled Amazon Music and it hasn't switched to anything else.

Hah, that's crept into the old interface, too. I use Android Auto on the phone screen, and it keeps wanting to play a rap channel on Amazon Music for some unknown reason right in the middle of my audiobook.

Amazon music tries to play every time I'm in my car. Used to have that problem with Pandora app last year.

Yup. That or randomly pausing.

We're gonna need an adult in here.
