The Last Guardian Catch-All

Spoiler:

It dies at the end of the game.

GLEE!

Seeing that announcement first thing this morning made me unbelievably happy.

EDIT: From what I understand/read, it looks like ICO/Shadow comes out in the Spring, and Last Guardian is out for Christmas.

Yeah, that's why I'm wary of this. Maybe I'm wrong and the plot will be unexpected, but it seems designed to manipulate my emotions for puppy dogs and helpless kids.

On the other hand, I'm playing Halo right now, and that's equally manipulative (to make you feel like a bad MF who saves the world), so maybe I'm being unfair.

Ueda saw what you did there:

The reason he's presenting this trailer now, Ueda continues, is because he wanted to clear up a couple of rumours floating around the internet. "Those who saw the last trailer for The Last Guardian may have speculated there will be a sad ending," he says.

"Obviously, if you played ICO or Shadow of the Colossus, you may jump to assumptions that the next game may have a sad ending as well. So I kind of wanted to throw that out there, and make sure that it's an open ending for you guys to figure out."

Really looks cool. It looks like it will have quite a bit of puzzling where you have to use dogbird as a solution or tool. Over a whole year before release though? That's just c*ckteasing! You think Sony would have learned by now.

It's pretty cool that they are re-releasing ICO and SoC in HD, as I never had a chance to play them. This will be the perfect excuse.

Is it me or is the new trailer music awful?

I thought it fit the trailer perfectly. Better than Epic Symphony #762.

The creator also said he wanted this trailer to indicate that the story wasn't necessarily going to end in tragedy, as most assume.

Funny part was watching this lighter trailer did more to convince me things will end horribly

I love both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus because they actually handle the whole tugging on your heartstrings thing really well, better than most any games out there. The moments they put you through are earned and land with some real weight.

I totally agree!

Spoiler:

The part in SOTC where your horse goes off the cliff was one of the few gaming moments that got a real emotional reaction out of me. The game is so barren it forces you to start thinking of the horse as your only real companion. I actually stood up off my couch and let out a yelp when it slid off that bridge. When faced with the possibility that whatever I was chasing caused the horse's death... I was downright angry!

I have to admit I have not played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. This makes me so pumped for the release. Both games I'm sure I can get my wife to watch me play too.

I think this says it all:

We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on October 20 2009 (Order# XXXXXXXXXX):

"The Last Guardian"
Estimated arrival date: January 04 2012

Me too, and the HD update looks wonderful. Even though I've never played any in the series, the promise of an HD release and the new game itself were factors in my decision to buy a PS3 instead of a 360. Great games cometh!

One thing I'll be very interested to see is how the Cinematic nature of the trailer fits into the gameplay. There are a ton of moments in there where it appears that the bird-rat-dog utilizes context unique animations - which in most games suggests cinema/cutscene what have you, but it appears that the player character may be actively controlled during those moments. Holiday 2011 can't arrive soon enough.

I have mixed feelings about double dipping *any* PS2 games.....although this version of Ico will apparently include the stuff on the Euro version that NA didn't get.

As someone who owns the PS2 ICO but never finished it, and someone who never got around to SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS, I am extremely happy to be able to buy the HD versions.

Well well well. Looks like people are finally getting to see the game in action at GDC.

I'm hoping there will be some more impressions and videos thanks to GDC. Looking like this game might actually ship at some point.

As a diehard fan of SotC who places it on his top 5 games of all time, my excitement for this game cannot be expressed in words.

So while I would wait for this game for as long as it takes, it does hurt to read this:

I was really looking forward for the HD releases this year. Now I don't know if it'll happen in 2011.

I know it's cliché, but it best expresses my deep feelings on this matter.

Yeah that about covers it.

Ya know, I never noticed the emperor in the background. How did I ever miss that before?

Oh and yeah, how crappy is that. This was going to be a 2 of the select few games I was going to purchase this year. I think I'm down to 6 games maybe. 2 have already been purchased and nobody really knows if Skyward Sword really is coming out this year.

+10

I'm not surprised, but I'm still disappointed.

My guess: it'll be one of the launch titles for the PS4.

Shut your mouth.

Shut your filthy whore mouth.

Fixed for proper emotional outburst...

I don't even own a playstation of any numeral and this saddens me like no other.

At least this means that the PS3 I'll have to buy in order to play this will cost a bit less.

Arise ... for bad news. Fumito Ueda has left Sony. He's still going to have a role in the Last Guardian as a freelancer, apparently.

I can see this being great for him, but perhaps not for the game. We'll see.

Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit....I'm getting Shellshock PTSD memories of when Sakaguchi/Uematsu/Amano left Square...Please God, let The Last Guardian keep his vision and integrity...

I can't think of anything worse than seeing ICO following in the footsteps of what happened with SE with those departures...I'm still hurt....

I'm sure his personal reasons are sound, but I can't help feeling that this is disrespectful to Sony. Not to mention the products in the past, but it seems like Sony has given an employee and his team free reign to create an artist vision over many years, and he just quits. The situation is just queer to me. Both parties are hardly vocal on the product itself, I just...

At least the game will come out and be good(?).

So dumbfounded.
