The next offering from Team Ico (Shadow of the Colossus, Ico) scheduled to be released in 2010. It's speculated that The Last Guardian is the first part of the trilogy with Shadow of the Colossus being part two and Ico being the third.

Hopefully, Team Ico will even go the SCEA route with GoW 1 & 2 and release remastered HD versions of SoC and Ico.

EDIT 1/04/10: New Screenshots

Seconded, though at this point I'd just like to see more of the gameplay.

Thirded! I had the same thought when reading about the GoW collection yesterday. I'd pay a kidney to play SotC at higher resolution, better frame rate, and AA like GoW Collection. Loved the game, but it struggled on the PS2 hardware at points.

So.... any bets on this guardian being a colossi?

This is going to be amazing. So very excited. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are two of my favorite games of all-time.

This game has already sold me on a PS3. I just have to wait until I have some spare funds.

That would be more awesome than... awesome! Dang, it might just redefine what awesome is!

Sigh, I got to get my PS3 fixed.

Has anyone with an O.G. PS3 (with the emotion engine) played SoTC on it yet? I have one but don't have either game and am wondering if I should pick up SoTC and Ico just to do a runthrough on the PS3.

Me! I have all three, but I haven't tried Ico on it yet. SotC, however, looked fine to my eyes. It'll benefit from some sprucing up, no doubt, but I've never had huge problems with any of the late-release PS2 games I've played--SotC, FFXII, GoW2, Rogue Galaxy, PoP; Two Thrones, hell, even FFXI looked fine. Sometimes they don't look quite as crisp, so shapes seem to kind of blend together.

Edit: I called in sick today, so I gave Ico a spin--it also looks fine, and should be very playable.

Cool SPP. Thanks for the info. I'm going to head over to Gamestop after work today to see if I can pickup used copies of both. I'm embarrassed to say I've never played either one.

This will definitely be the game that I get a PS3 for. I'm in the same situation with greenbrier. I just need spare funds.

I have played through both completely on my 60gb PS3 and they work fine.

Not that they give a lot of clear answers, but based on my understanding of what the Colossi were, that doesn't seem likely...

Spoiler:

Not to get into a big plot analysis, but weren't they separated parts of Dormin's soul or something?

Yes, but remember he was re-sealed at the end of the game with part of the lock being the horned kid(s) and the woman inheriting some of his shadow powers.

Another interesting thing was that each Colossi seemed to be part of Dormin's soul but also a human soul who "locked it in" (the human shadows standing over the hero when he's unconscious).

Also, they were "mutated" (can't think of a better word) animals with armour on because, although overall they reflected the shape of Dormin's true form, many of them 'overlapped' making those parts redundant. This seems to be a baby mutated animal without armour. I know it's probably a stretch but IMO either the boy is the last guardian or the animal is. The boy seems to be part of an order while the guards (of him and the animal) etc seem to be at odds with his purpose. Perhaps this game's timeline sits inbetween SotC and Ico during the evil queen's reign?

If I'm not mistaken, the "Trico" trilogy was released in reverse succession with Ico being part 3, SotC being part 2, and The Last Guardian being part 1.

Is there any evidence for that? We know that SotC comes before Ico and there's no info on TLG.

I don't think SOTC was originally intended supposed to be a prequel to Ico, and it was decided during the development process.

The Japanese title of The Last Guardian actually has the word "Trico" (actually Toriko but that's the only way to spell it in Japanese) in it. So that might imply that it is in fact the third game in an intentional series. Also the literal translation of the Japanese title is "Man Eating Large Eagle Toriko". I can see why they wanted to change it for the English release.

I always thought "Nico" and "Trico" were code names for the second and third games before they were officially titled. Next-Ico, and Third-Ico

They are the project codenames, but for some reason Ueda wanted it to be in the title. Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tg...

The source doesn't appear very legit, but-- Please, please, please let his be true:

There's no way that could be true - it would make too much financial and marketing sense for Sony to re-release both games as a promotion for their upcoming game. They'd have to require using SixAxis motion controls, or lock it to Bulgarian consoles or something.

Thankfully Sixaxis controls have mostly disappeared. Now, with the Move coming out ...

ANOTHER YEAR?!!!

Did you see anything at E3? Yeah, me neither. So next June is hardly an insane thought.

Plus, Amazon is the company that told me my preorder on George R.R. Martin's fifth Fire and Ice book would be fulfilled three years ago. I'm still waiting, thank you.

Well, this is hardly the most sound of all evidence, but apparently we should expect to see the Last Guardian at TGS.

GLEE!

Oh, I thought this was the game based on the movie with the Owls. Now I get it.
