GWJ FBO: Flight Simulation Catch-all

the 00_6DOF_Tracker_4GB Version works great, but be sure to have anything else associated with mouse tracking or free track disabled. If there's more than one in there it mucks things up.

Your issue may also be that you are in gunsight view. For 6d0f to work you may have to hit Shift-F1 to go back to regular cockpit view. What's really cool is that with 6dof you can lean to the right and move in to get to gunsight mode dynamically.

Also I have a present for you

Thanks Stylez. Great find. I will have to try to get this all working together sometime this weekend. I am also running Win7x64 so that adds another wrinkle. First order of business is to get a good download of UP 2.0. I think I will have to use the torrent though since I keep getting a corrupt download in one of the 7 separate files using the web method.

By the way, I have a copy of FSX Deluxe edition to anyone that wants it. PM me.

Because I haven't posted in this thread in a week, doesn't mean I have lost interest in flight sims. Just the opposite, in fact, I've not been this addicted to a new hobby in a long time. My nonchalant "hey this $18 for FSX looks cheap, I'll give that a whirl" whim has turned into several hundred dollar digital crack addiction. I now own:

* FSX
* X52 HOTAS setup
* Real Environment Extreme 2.0
* Ground Environment X 1.09
* Ultimate Terrain X 1.31
* OrbX Pacific Northwest
* A2A's Piper Cub J3 with Accu-sim

I've got my i7-920 oc'ed to 3.6 ghz with an ATI 5850 on a 24" Dell LCD, and this has been simulation bliss. Flying in OrbX's Pacific NW is just drop-dead gorgeous. These mods turn FSX into a sight to behold.

Beautiful pics Jeff! That scenery really is gorgeous.

Thanks. These tiny pics don't do it justice. For full effect, click on the 'original screen' links. If nothing else, people should do that for the bottom pic of the L39. It's incredible.

Any of you throttle jockeys fly LOMAC? If so, do any of y'all have plans to pick up the Flaming Cliffs 2.0 pack? Being a DCS:Blackshark owner, I feel compelled to purchase this. The idea of flying choppers and fixed-wing craft together in multi-player makes me smile

Having flown "Apache vs. Havoc" quite a bit, the idea makes me scared :shock:.

I'm definitely in for Lockon 2.0 30 bucks is a steal for having the LOMAC aircraft in DCS.

Ok, I've had to slow down on the flight sim kick lately. I've recently purchased Lock On FC2 (Kickass by the way). And invested too much into FSX thanks to Jeff's screenshots above.

Here are a couple of mine:

Is anyone up for a bit of flying. FSX or DCS:BS. Anyone interested? I still suck at shooting, but would love to do a bit of formation or something....

Oh curse you reviving thread. Sigh ...

Any reports on Win7 issues with FSX?

I have seen no issues myself running Win7x64

Here's a couple of the many hundreds of shots I've taken since I last posted.

I've also been working on something new: shooting FSX videos. There's been a learning curve, and my first few were quite stale and mechanical, at best. This one was the first one I attempted. Not much creative about it, but it does serve to show off the incredible Orbx Pacific NW scenery to some extent. Depicted is the Oregon coastline, near Newport.

This one is my latest, and was fun to make. Hope you enjoy it:

Same here. FSX is working beautifully in Win7-64.

Thread necro.... Wings of prey has a patch out now that includes a new German campaign (5 missions I think), and it adds co-op play to multiplayer.

If anyone's interested, it's 15 bucks from yuplay.

Arise again! So, I just got a couple extra monitors and can now do eyefinity at 5760x1080 (there's actually a bit more horizontal screen real estate pixel wise when you take into account the bezel correction, but I forget the actual number I ended up at). I was enjoying going through all my games to see what they looked like and decided to fire up Wings of Prey. I had picked the game up a year or so ago but stopped playing after the tutorial because I didn't have any type of analog stick at the time. Now that I have a 360 controller, the game works great. Holy crap, though, Eyefinity adds immensely to flight sims. Eyefinity can feel a bit awkward in some games but not with the flight sim. I'm able to put everything at ultra still as well and still get 60fps to high 30 fps (vsync on). I took a few screenshots, but I'm at work and don't have them, so here are a couple from around the webs to give an idea of how good this game looks in Eyefinity.

I love being in the cockpit and looking around using the mouse. It just works really well with Eyefinity.

Weird. WOT tells me the site where the images are has a bad reputation.

Good timing on this thread necro. I've just started back into FSX in the past few days, loving it again.

For what it's worth, Orbx, the maker's of the awesome Pacific NW overhaul add-on, have been hard at work this past year, extending the coverage range to include the great NW Fjords, and the northern Rockies, and of course, they look amazing.

Orbx' stuff is some of the best I've seen in any sim or game. You can see their products (and screens) here.

Also want to mention Microsoft is building a whole new flight sim from the ground up, in MS Flight. Some of the screens I've seen look fantastic. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Screens for it are available in the link above.

Hmm, wsgfmedia.com. I have no idea why it would have a bad rep.

I just looked at a few screens and watched the video for MS Flight. It seems to look pretty good, although it's hard to tell at this point. I have seen screenshots of Orbx before, and that is some crazy stuff.

That in-cockpit shot in super wide screen is amazing. I would love to have a setup like that one day

Oleg's next game, formerly Storm of War, is now known as IL2: COD (Cliffs of Dover). Looks like the release date is solid now, and you can expect it out in March. Hoping there will be a revival of the GWJ Lawn dart sim night

I started taking actual flying lessons in January, so I will be firing FSX up again soon, too. Unfortunately I don't think Orbx has a USA mid-Atlantic pack yet. I'm anxious to see if the landmarks I see over Manassas Regional (KHEF) are represented in the default scenery.

Il-2 Sturmovik : Cliffs of Dover Dev Diary Part 1

Looks amazing!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but...

If you were going to buy a new sim, which brand would you choose? I've looked at FlightSim X and X-Plane 9. I'm concerned about support and future releases of the FS franchise.

Yeah, it's a tough time to wade in. I will say, the support for X-Plane seems to actually be picking up, with more addons and such coming out regularly. X-Plane 10 is also due this christmas according to their august update. There are great iphone/ipad applications for using with X-Plane on the desktop as well.

I have a massive investment in MSFS X add-ins, which is the only reason I still use it at all. I expect to be migrating to X-Plane 10 when it ships, however.

Same here, lots of money in FSX add-ons.

Another one to note is the upcoming MS Flight, though i have no idea when it's shipping. I'm guessing sometime in 2012.

FSX looks like ass out of the box, but can be made to look amazingly good via add-ons, but man are those add-ons pricey when they start piling up.

Take On Helicopters is now available on steam.

I've had this game in my periphery for a while, but had not given it much attention tbh. I saw the advert in Steam News, and immediately started clicking and snooping.

The game ships on the 27th of this month, but has a beta available to play immediately if you preorder now. Being the sucker for helicopters in Arma II that I am, I couldn't resist preordering this puppy. The cheapest price I found for myself was on BI's own store, Sprocket.

Sprocket is pretty bare bones, and I'm now thinking I should have spent the few extra bones and purchased through Steam. I'm looking at about a 10 GB download on my awesome 230 Kb/s dl speed.

I didn't want to go off topic in the MS Flight thread, so, carrying over from there ...

Speaking of X-Plane ... do any of you guys have the new X-Plane 10? Holy crap, I just looked at it (hadn't checked x-plane since v.9), and it *looks* freakin' awesome. I know there's a demo, and I'm grabbing that now, but was wondering if anyone here had direct experience with it.

I'm wondering where is a good, inexpensive place to start a 9-year-old that wants to learn how to fly a plane?

like for realz or in simland. Honestly, the core lessons in FSX are really solid, if hes reasonably intellectual and really wants to learn how real planes work, not just poke around.

The other thing is -- RC? There are some GREAT RC simimulator/trainers out there, but its a whole different animal.

Like Julian said, if for realz, start with something like this and FSX.

I think a motivated, smart 9 y/o could figure it out and have a lot of fun.
