Goozex

Yeah, I though Batman looked unreasonably high, but it's supposed to be a great game. I went with Assassin's Creed II in the hopes that, by the time I beat it, it will have gone up in demand a bit. I'll just look for Batman the next time I'm in Walmart or something.

It's also currently on sale at gamefly for $18 (equivalent to 360 goozex points?)

Ugh, shipping takes the price up $5.. in the US.. if you are not a Gamefly member.

Doesn't sound like a good deal for Canadian me.

I've already missed the boat though, the game is long past its cultural pinnacle. I can definitely wait it out.

This is really nice, might make it worth activating a few on hold trades I was waiting to go down a little... thanks for sharing!

Looks like a good time to jump into this new fanged thing.

More news: it looks like Goozex is considering shifting the burden of shipping cost to buyers.

As part of our weekly meetings we discuss a lot of things and often it comes up on how we can continue to improve the site for our members. One idea that has been getting tossed around a little bit more than usual is the notion of having the buyer pay for shipping and seller get free shipping labels. Here is why we are bringing it up:

* Seller would get a free (paid by the buyer) shipping label: all US-to-US trades would be covered with tracking
* It would increase confidence and security in transactions b/c tracking would be on all US labels
* It would lower the barrier for new members to immediately start selling (all they would need are bubble mailers)
* It is in line with most other e-commerce sites -- meaning it's not an unusual thing for buyers to pay for shipping

Following through the thought -- the Goozex shipping label service would be available (as now) only for all US to US trades. US to Canada and Canada to Canada trades would either be same as today or some variation of buyer paying for shipping.

We also are thinking of how tokens would be handled. Either the postage + token paid by the buyer (while selling is free) or completely flip the current scenario with postage paid by buyer and token paid by seller (costs split between buyer and seller).

There's a poll there if you want to vote. It's skewing heavily toward keeping the status quo.

My issue = Goozex shipping rate is overpriced. see earlier in the thread. On a simple 5 oz game, you save over $1 in shipping by using alternate methods.

You say this only because you haven't played it. Trust me, I played it way after it came out due to a 360 red ring issue, and it was totally worth it.

I've been playing through the PC version on hard after completing the 360 version on normal. It's still great, and I find myself loading it "for a few minutes", only to lose multiple hours.

As for making buyers pay for shipping, I think it's fine in theory, but the way they describe their implementation it sounds like you'd be required to buy the shipping label through Goozex. That's what I typically do anyway when I'm selling, for convenience, but I'm not comfortable with the option to seek out a cheaper shipping method being removed.

I think what he means is it would be the same experience if he played it now or later vs if he had started it when people were talking about it.

It's true. I just finished my second (hard-mode, snagging all collectibles) playthrough and I'm STILL hungry for more. The sequel can't come out fast enough for me. Only thing left to do is gold-medal all the challenge rooms to sew up those last few achievement points: if I do that, it'll be my first even thou on one game ever.

Yeah, this.

So I've sent out 3 games with Goozex and am supposedly getting one back soon. If it works out well this site will be pretty cool. This is a good way to take Day 1 games you buy and turn them into 2 or 3 older games that you never got around to playing.

I just picked Bioshock 2 and Picross 3D up from the mail last night and Splinter Cell: Conviction is winging it's way to me as we speak. And I still haven't started Final Fantasy VIII, even though I've had it for a couple weeks. Goozex is being good to me right now.

Well, I beat Assassin's Creed II and it took less than a week to get a match on Goozex, so I'm sending it to someone else already. The great part is, it's still the same price as when I requested it, so I'm breaking even.

I'm getting rid of 5 games right now to try to take advantage of the PS3 month promotion. It looks like the odds are pretty good for winning the $60 Amazon gift card. I saw a list of top traders for the first week of June posted on the Goozex forums, and there were surprisingly few people trading 5+ games that week.

Minus shipping and transaction price

Well, just received my first bum game. Not only that, the seller took 1 week to ship and didn't inform me until I PM'ed them 6 days after trade confirmation that the game that was requested as full package was missing it's manual.

We'll see where this negative feedback goes...

EDIT: Not really a bad disc, but my system is not performing properly. Disc works fine in another machine. blah!

I meant in terms of credits in my account. Speaking of which, I'm sitting on 3250 points now and I am frozen like a deer in the headlights. I'm leaning toward MAG to replace Bad Company 2 for my FPS fix, and Arkham Asylum because shame on me for having waited this long to play it. Any other suggestions for non-high demand new releases?

You can click "Available Now" on the left to get available releases, then sort by release date. If you pick a platform from the top bar first, it will be limited by platform.

You can also do an Advanced Search and twiddle with the "Request Queue" and "Offers Queue" options.

It would be nice if you could do an Advanced Search and only return "Available Now" as part of the search. :/

If you're just randomly looking for new releases, though, you might not be using Goozex to its fullest potential. I feel like it works best when you load it up with things you wouldn't mind playing when they're a little older, but didn't need to rush out and buy on release day.

Sorry, I used poor wording in my last post... I just meant any suggestions for non-new releases. I know that's pretty much a lost cause. I've only had my PS3 since October and am trying to work through a backlog of games I hadn't played as a former PC-only player.

I see. You might hit a PS3 thread and I don't know what your tastes are, but:

Heavenly Sword and Valkyria Chronicles are available instantly as disc only; you would have to wait for full package, though.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time is also available disc only, but the previous game R&CF: Tools of Destruction is oddly not.

Brutal Legend could be yours as a full package. (It didn't get a PC release, did it? I'm not listing stuff like Dead Space and Grand Theft Auto IV which got PC releases.)

Lair got panned all over when it was released, but supposedly the patch to turn off SixAxis motion control makes it much better. I haven't tried it myself, though.

If something new/unavailable looks good, toss it in your queue so you start working your way up. Put it on hold if you don't want to surprise get it without waiting a bit first.

Brutal Legend looks tempting... and cheap. Surprisingly cheap. I remember enjoying the demo, but it didn't have any of the RTS elements I have heard so much about. Also sounds like a game my wife would enjoy watching.

I'm also strangely intrigued by Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Since there's absolutely no chance of me getting RDR, maybe this could be a good filler until that becomes available. It got some fairly rave reviews on its Metacritic page.

I'm also considering iNfamous, though 600 points seems like a lot for a year-old title, although it looks like the demand is still there for it. Plus it's an exclusive.

Thanks for the ideas, I will check those out.

This was at 500 a little while ago, then went up to 550 right when i wanted to get it and I only had 500 points. Now up to 600. I'm waiting for it to drop back down, which isn't a big problem since I have no time to play games.

I'm not a PS3 guy, but if you didn't play Red Faction: Guerilla on the PC, it's a fun console game. It was last year's surprise summer hit. Definitely play Arkham Asylum and Bioshock (if you haven't on the PC). What great games! I also had a lot of fun with Borderlands, though that's also a PC game. I presume you've played at least the first Uncharted? If you're into racing games, Burnout Paradise rocks! Also, Deadspace has some good moments.

I have both Uncharteds, and just sent Burnout Paradise in after putting around 60 hours into it. I will give Red Faction a look. I played the demo and wasn't moved. It's only 300 points on PS3 right now, though. Also, I have Borderlands on the way.

I think that it would be hard to have the demo of Red Faction really get you into the meat of it. That being said, I didn't try the demo, so I can't say for sure. One word of advice -- give up any feelings of inadequacy it may cause you and set the difficulty to easy. It's a very punishing game in the early stages without that.

Bought into this sale Christmas when things were half off- still very much taking advantage of my pts. For those without a bank of pts, it's a great use of $ to get games.

Sweet! I just won a 360 slim from Goozex!
