Brink Catch-All

But are too good for our Steam group, huh?

Oh hey, top of the page: YOU! Yes you, reading this right now, join the GWJ Steam group if you plan to play with us on the PC.

It was a damn shame they released ETQW right as Valve revealed TF2 to the world and stole their thunder.

Was that god awful demo that stole their thunder. If they did finally make a solid game out of it that's great, but that was one of the worst betas/demos i've ever been part of.

TF2 probably would've stolen the show anyway.

I have to admit, I've barely payed any attention to Brink. I am now feeling silly, because it looks super rad. Tagging this thread to see if I can be convinced to pull $60 out of my wallet in a couple weeks, especially with LA Noire a week later, and the COD map pack a week earlier.

Only $50 if you join us in PC land.

As the guy who ran the short lived GWJ Quake Wars server (a game I really liked), I might be convinced to run a Brink server for us. I'll look into server availability and hosts.

Urrrgh. PC or XBOX? PC or XBOX? Brain is hurting!

PC! Steam group. Dedicated servers. Mouse aiming. $10 cheaper. And who knows, maybe some mods down the road, custom maps, and so on.

Both!

I've found that stuff that gets really popular that I'll buy one and wait for a sale on the other and double dip

Excellent! I get to (try and) stab you some more!

That would be awesome.

There is an interview on IGN about the art design of Brink. Far more specific than what you usually get, and they go through it level by level.

I will be in on this one as well for the PC.

I love the look of this game (more specifically the characters you can create.) Tempted to get it on 360.

Here's an interview with a Splash Damage guy that has peeked my interest. Sounds like the single player is robust and they're taking anti-greifing measures.

(sorry if this interview has been posted before. I'm skimming :P)

Yeah I own this now.

as in now now or you preordered?

A post over at CAG mentions the refer-a-friend program they D2D has going. Terms.

And how you can use that to pre-order for an extra 10% off, at $40. Not sure if anyone here has a code already or if we should start up our own referring each other. If Steam doesn't have a 4-pack or anything, this might be the cheapest way to pre-order the PC version.

That is the cheapest price i've seen for the game. I dont like the preorder options but for that price i'd learn to live with it.

Speaking of preorder items. I noticed they offered silencers.

Anyone know if gun shots show up on the radar or not? Just curious.

Silenced shots won't afaik. The radar works slightly diff to other games, but cant remember all the details. I think one main thing is if you get someone in your sights, the show up on radar. Presumably mimicking you calling a position out.

I pre-ordered it on Steam.

Anyone know what the voice chat options are? I'm thinking PC now. (Though if it's really good I may double-dip in future.)

Vent (GWJer friendly server)
Skype
In-game/Steam Chat

VoIP is turned off by default in Brink.

Not sure about PC, but on console VoIP is set to friends only afaik. It can be changed, of course. Not sure if that's possible on PC.

You going to be sticking with the 360 on this one?

Yes, but that's not anything to do with the game. My PC is old and I prefer playing on console.

That seems a bit silly. If you wouldn't have mentioned it, I would have wondered why most of the people I play with aren't talking. You'd think the default option would let you talk to everyone, and there would be a friends only option you could turn on.

Portal 2 turned it off by default too.

Wait, whaaaat? I spent like half an hour trying to get that to work! Where's the on-button?

Audio settings.

And you have to set it every time you start the game.

Under audio. I think the patch that applied this week fixed something with voice chat as well (on PC).
