Any photographers in the house?

Hi all -

Sorry for the basic question, but how do I share a photo from my own computer in a post? The Image tags seem to just be for stuff on the web. I'd like to share some photos but can't figure out how.

Thanks!

It's a good question. The GWJ site doesn't allow you to upload an image directly so upload your image to a free site like flickr and then just link to them from here.

Too slow.

Thanks for the quick answer. Trying Google photos.

I just use imgur.com works just fine for me.

Toraak - that image isn't showing up for us from Google likely because it has privacy settings.

Thanks for letting me know. Here's another try.

That one shows up fine, and it's a very cool shot!

I don't understand this at all.

It is pointless, but in a fun gimmick gift kind of a way.

To me it's the photography equivalent of the SNES mini classic. I was reading through and thinking how much would I pay for something like that, had £100ish n mind... At the bottom $120 with 1 fake film, $150 with the 4 films, not far off... A retro gift that might get as much use as those Nintendo nostalgia machines.

It reminds me of that youtube series where they give a professional photographer a crappy camera made for toddlers. They'd of course do better with their regular kit, but it's interesting seeing them struggle and adapt to old technology.

The Yashica trademarks arent owned by the Yashica company of old. The trademark rights moved around a bit but I think they are owned through some HK company.

This isnt the camera equivalent of the SNES Classic, it's the Atari Flashback.

Neither do I.

But if you want to go retro... just buy an actual film camera?

(I think this is the next chemistry experiment in our basement...)

And because it's the photographer thread, a recent on-film photo from my husband:

And a recent digital shot of the new train station:

(Probably both altered horribly while being uploaded to twitter.)

Sorry, I may have written that wrongly, I wouldn't buy it, I meant how much could I see people paying for as a novelty.

I've got a box full of old film cameras and it's a shame don't really use them as much as I should. Fuji X100 has me covered on the retro poser digital front.

I'm looking at geting my older x100s converted to a Monochrome BW camera.

Talking of retro, anyone into the pinhole photography?

When used to have access to a dark room used to love making cameras out of instamatic film. Everyday objects and photo paper, made one out of orange peel once way back in uni.

An image I'd like to hunt down is a rugrats pencil topper taken with the pinhole camera inside of my mouth looking out.

I'd like to get back into it, have had a book for a while on updating to 35mm pinhole cam.

Shots taken on our 17th wedding anniversary at Sleeping Giant park.

Oh, those are the best shots I've seen from you Strangeblades! Nice work! I particularly like this one, but they are all quite good and the best I've seen you post.

Edit: Oh yeah, when you look at that thing in full res, it's absolutely amazing.

Well, here's a photo I just messed around with.

Kinda boring little, but when you blow it up, it's something interesting.

I've been messing around with vintage lenses on the XT2, mainly looking for lenses that produce distinct Bokeh.

This one (Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Telemegor 180 mm f/ 5.5) is really not sharp, but I think it can do better than this.

I also picked up a Helios 44m 58mm f2. The swirly bokeh is fun.

Those are both really cool, Tyops.

Yeah the pics themselves are nothing special but it's need to work with something that ends up giving a slightly different look.

Those lenses are dirt cheap compared to new x-mount lenses.

Awesome shots Strangeblades! I love taking shots of water like that at high speed so you can see how blobby it is.

Bokeh is also really great - those are super cool Tyops. We're coming up on my favorite time of year for taking cool shots featuring bokeh. These are from a few years ago:

Good news. Went along to the Worcester Music Festival photography exhibition last night and had three photos included in the top 20 pics and 3rd in the competition.

WMF is a city wide festival over about 15, pubs, clubs and backrooms and are on the whole dim on the lighting front. Decent pics are a challenge and that's why I love the local gig photography.

Well I had done, long story - I used to go to at least one, sometimes two or three gigs a week, but this festival in September and the gigs included were pretty much the first enclosed shows had even attended for a year, never mind taken pics at... so am chuffed with third. Last year I tried taking part but was a particularly bad time so I didn't really participate at all, that was after winning top spot in 2014 and 2015. So yeah attending the shows at all was the real win, exhibition and prize just a lil bonus.

Here's the 3rd from this year, top (Howlin' Bones).

2015 - middle (Hey You Guys). A bit of context might be required for this one. Their front man is very energetic and runs about the room at least once during a set. While the room was looking at him, I was taking this pic of his band mates waiting on him to get back on stage.

2014 - bottom (Arbor Lights).

Hopefully this'll give me a little nudge to get to more gigs.

Great shots Bubblefuzz, what are you shooting with?

Cheers groan.

All three with a 60D.
Top/bottom with the cheap as chips Canon 50mm f.1.8
Middle was Sigma 17-50mm f.2.8

Those are some awesome shots Bubblefuzz. I really love the last one especially.

I have that same Sigma lens picked it up a few months ago and love it.

AHA, the 1.8 and 2.8 explains that sharpness. Very nice.

Cheers.

Yeah I like the 2.8 for regular use but much of the time the 2.8 / zoom combo struggles at gigs.

The prime, even if cheap gets that extra light and is speedier to focus. It's just a shame all other Canon primes are so expensive!
