Any photographers in the house?

Very lovely. I like the purple tint.

Very calming. A nice capture.

This looks like it would be fun to use.

As the seasons change, any of you have plans to take advantage of the fall or keep yourself motivated as the sun is less frequent? (He says from the soon to be rainy Northwest US)

Apple picking! There's a ton of great orchards in the Hudson Valley.

This is prime picture taking time in the Northeast. Good light and fall colors. It's when the leaves are gone in early November and the gray weather settles in that it gets slow.

Trying to get out more but quite tired after work. I have been taking my camera with me to work in the morning as the sunrises are quite nice... however, as they get later they're getting harder to catch as I'm already gone by then! Looking forward to the clocks going back so I can do it again.

I'm planning to take a day or two and hike up through the countryside to the Savernake Forest. I drive through part of it every day on the way to work, and I've been thinking of some ideas for a photo study in there.

The light at this time of year is amazing, and instead of rushing through on the commute, it would be nice to spend some time in the woods. And if I carry my tent and gear with me, I can camp in the FC ground on the north side of the forest overnight, then get up and get the morning light before I walk home.

But now to find the time... :/

I figured after asking the rest of you, I needed to get out and shoot something this weekend. Here's an attempt at black and white.

any users of flickr feeling they want to convert to 500px? Flickr is getting so long in tooth, but I dont think I'll ever drop it entirely (read I'm going to keep paying them) but I crave the new layout and the "portfolio" features of 500 pc... /sigh

I've decided that paranoia is a better idea and will probably move to a self-hosted photo gallery. The one I'm most interested in is OpenPhoto project as it supports keeping photos on Dropbox or even Amazon S3, which means I don't have to worry about bandwidth or disk space on my website hosting plan.

This of course is Item #242 on my To-do list which means I ponied up for another year of Flickr Pro a few months back

As someone who has traditionally used Picasa, and am now frustrated at the G+ integration, I want to move my 'proper' photos over to another website. I've signed up for 500px and have just been trying to find the time to switch things over.

This OpenPhoto project looks interesting, though. Does it have a potential sales feature like 500px or is it purely for storage? And how does it rate on the T&Cs?

Went to a Bouldering competition with my son. If you haven't had the chance to see one of these things, they are amazing.

If you are planning to run your own copy of the OpenPhoto software, the core engine is published under a Apache OSS license which is relatively well liked (IAN Richard Stallman). I can't locate the T&C's for the hosted OpenPhoto solution though.

Interesting you should mention being able to combine sales options with a gallery of your work - that's something that came up on Ep. 23 of On Taking Pictures. Bill Wadman's opinion was that it's better to have a separate site to allow prospective buyers to view a tightly curated collection your work, a different one if they want to buy prints and for stock photos, go with istockphoto or the like as that is where stock photo buyers tend to congregate.

Thanks. That's useful. I'm not as interested in trying to produce photos for the 'stock' market, but more as an artistic outlet to provide some kind of justification for the time and effort spent on my photography. I know 500px does it, so I might just considering signing up for that.

In case anyone's interested - photos from our three week vacation in the States:2012 - America Trip

Some awesome shots in there. This one is my favourite.. but maybe that's only because I met you

Looks like you had a great trip Haakon and a lot of great pics in the mix.
How did you set your itinerary? My wife has family from overseas and when they talk of coming they don't have a good sense of the scale of the country here so list places they'd like to see thousands of miles from each other.

Thanks guys. When you separate the wheat from the chaff, there are a couple in there I'm happy with.

And yeah, it probably helps that you know that those are our normal faces, Duoae.

I've bit the bullet today and done a bit of work sifting through my portfolio to pick out the start of a 500px account. If anyone's interested, these are the ones I consider the best of the best, though critiques are always welcome: http://500px.com/ukhoosier

In response to your question, Rahmen, I'm from the States originally, so those are both 'known' places for me. I grew up in Indiana and spent a couple of summers on that beach, so its nice to go back whenever we can to visit.

what ive been doing is posting my better photos to 500px a few at a time. I havent sprung for a paid account so I dont have access to the portfolio feature yet, but when I do, all the pictures I'll want on the service will be in place for the switch.

My 500 px

I followed you

I sprung for it. I figured $19.95 isn't so much for the convenience of being able to create sets, stories and have the unlimited upload. But then again, I'm not on Flickr and not paying for that already.

Cool. I followed you too. I don't get all of the 'Affection' ratings just yet, but I got a few likes almost immediately, which was cool.

so far I feel that I get more views per item on 500px, but there isnt any community around it. so its more like I want both :/

Sweet! So, is everyone moving to 500px these days? It looks pretty decent. I may have to upload a few of my personal faves and continue to try and take good photos. Most of my photos these days are of friends, though. It's probably unethical to post pictures of them without their permission, even if they are good photos of them. For me, it's not worth asking them about it because I don't want to impose.

This had a brush with Popular while I was asleep on Saturday night. It then dropped back out by the time I woke up.

But I was there, baby.

Anybody have an OMD-E5? If so, what are your experiences of it?
I'm thinking of upgrading from my GF1, and just collecting information on the competition ahead of Panny's GX2 announcement in November.

If the GX2 doesn't have an integrated viewfinder and an improved sensor, I think I'm going to go with the OMD. (But cost differentials may drive me to the GX1. Its only £300 for the body!)

I've got it, and I love it! Great low-light performance, focus is crazy fast, and it's still smaller and lighter than DSLRs with comparable image quality.

Posted these in the pictures thread because I like them:

Getting some weird stuff going on with the windows. Beautiful shots though.
