I went out to the bar to watch UFC 106 tonight. I was on the phone with my roommate, walking to my car to head home, and I saw this girl between to cars, hugged up against one, crying and obviously in distress. I got to my car (just on the other side of "her" car with an empty spot between), started it, started the windows defogging, got off the phone with my roommate and thought, "I should see if she needs help".
I go back to where she's at, she's now crouched down, back to the car, still crying. "Are you ok? Do you need help? Is there anything I can do?"
"Please just go away, he'll see you. Please."
Uneasy, I head back to my car. In the next row over, I see a guy stalking along mumbling angrily to himself. I can't remember any specific words, but he sounded really, really angry. As I get to my car, I see the girl crouch-walk around the back of the SUV she was hiding behind. She asks me to take her, take her away from here. I tell her to get in and she does. She's obviously extremely upset and worried. I hear her say a couple of things (probably more to herself than anything) "He's gonna hit me. He's crazy", things like that. She wants me to take her to her sister's work a few miles away. She had left her sister a voice mail but knew she was working.
I asked her if there was someone she needed to call, and suggested the police. Her response was that she needed to make sure her family was safe first (OH sh*t!*)
I don't ask too many questions (though she did tell me it was her birthday, and she was there to see the Ortiz/Griffin fight but didn't see the whole thing(what a wonderful birthday memory for her )). I tell her she's safe now (a lot) and try to calm her down/reassure her as much as possible.
When we got to her sister's work, I offered to give her my number in case she can't find her sister or need anything whatsoever. She was grateful but declined.
I'm home now. The adrenaline has worn off. I'm really glad I offered and was able to help her, but I feel like I should have done more (taken her to the police, made her call the police, walked her in and made sure she got to her sister, called the police after I dropped her off and had them check on her, etc). I hope that my help was sufficient, and that she and her family are safe, and whatever asshole did this to her gets what's coming to him.
*What I'm thinking.
Yea, you're now a suspect in a murder.
Right on, I think you did everything that could be expected of you, a total stranger to her. You were in the right place at the right time, and did something to make the situation much much better than it could have been. If she's with her family now, they will take care of her. Good on you for having such a good soul, kaostheory!

I just keep wishing I could do more. Getting her out of that parking lot was huge. I took her out of a situation where she was in immediate danger, I can't second guess that decision. I know I did the right thing considering the information available.

Speaking as an ex-cop, it sounds as though she's in a dangerous situation. People, and especially women, often feel powerless and decline help for fear of making things worse. In my experience, guys who beat on their girls tend to fold up into little crying balls on the ground when real men show up. You might want to consider letting the local police know about the situation and let them know where the sister works. A discreet inquiry on their part (or, at least, as discreet as cops get) might get things moving in the right direction.
I think I can see the feathers when they release their hearts.

Gee, she potentially puts your life in jeopardy; she could have at least told you why.
I wish you guys would stop encouraging him.

I was expecting more "Come with me if you want to live" and maybe some "I'm on a mission to save the world".
Good first act of the story though...

Dude, weren't you packing??
Certis: Quintin is both smart and attractive.
Fedaykin98: Good lord, I wouldn't have expected brilliance like that from that nemeslut Quintin Stone!
Yonder: It's weird to say this, but Quintin Stone may be the wisest person here.
You sure did, considering I'd be worried that I was getting conned.
Words... are a big deal.

Do you have a class I could take, or maybe a DVD series?
Good job, kaostheory. To be safe, though, wipe down your car with bleach.
Quintin_Stone: Nice looking c*ck you got there, dimmerswitch.
BadKen: So what you're saying is that cops can look at my dick pics without a warrant.

I won't lie, the thought crossed my mind, but I'd rather get conned than let her get beat up or worse.

Unfortunately, I'm already a max level Chauffeur (I completed the "Successfully deliver a crowning pregnant woman to the hospital" quest ~5 years ago). I think I made some progress towards Knight in Shining Armor, but I haven't met the smiting requirement.

I would've done the same thing, seems like it was the right thing to do. Good on ya, bro.

Where was Jeff Goldblum in this story? He could totally have kicked that guy's ass.

I'm just going to go ahead and pretend that when she opened the passenger door to get in you leaned across, stretched your arm out and pulled her into the passenger seat while telling her to "stay down" before flooring the gas and squealing out of the parking lot in a giant cloud of burnt rubber all the while dodging a hail of bullets from a car full of Yakuza that remained close on your tail until you lost them in the back streets of a major metropolis. If that's not what happened, you were doing it wrong.

I don't feel disadvantaged with the stick I've got.
As long as that response isn't "I'm putting on my packing pants, now get ready for a butt-load of me!"
