Metro 2033: Catch All

Pages

So, this one kinda flew under my radar until recently.

I think it kind of looks like a mix of STALKER and Fallout 3, but opinions may vary. I'm pretty excited to see what comes of it.
Basically the human race has been forced to live in subway tunnels underground.

Apparently 4a Games (the team making it) is a bunch of people who split off from the STALKER team. Which would explain why it looks so similar.

Interesting.

Gave me a bit of a 12 Monkeys vibe as well.

Looks neat, count me in

You know that game's going to be great, because everything in it's so goddamn dark.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Looks really good. Just heard about this one a few days ago too. I loved the original STALKER (never finished Clear Skies, I'll admit) and this looks like it could scratch that same itch.

I'm hoping so, but I'm a little more cautious: there's a fine line between scratching the itch and making a not-quite-as-good rip-off. Still, keeping an eye on it.

This has been in development for a while, and it's been looking awesome in that gritty, grim Eastern European kind of way. Cool that THQ has picked it up.

That does look pretty cool.

Though I'm a bit nervous because pretty much all of the Eastern European titles I've said that about have wound up imploding without getting released. Dammit, I want to play Precursors!

Or being buggy as hell and totally unsupported.

Looks good but too far away to concern myself with it

The brilliance of this wisdom blinds me!

I keep hearing that 4A Games, the 2033 Developers, are a bunch of former GSC guys who worked on the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and split off in 2006. This article is as much confirmation as I can find. Anyone have more info on the connection between 2033 and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games?

Just so that nobody gets dissapointed in the final product: Yes, it's a game from former members of the STALKER team and it's from the East European bloc, but it's also supposed to be a more traditionally scripted, linear FPS. Previews suggest it's done Valve-style where the rails are well-hidden and whatnot but keep that in mind.

Hell yes.

Hell yes.

Release date: March 16. (Link)

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not picking it up any time soon. It's just bad time for the game, and it seems to me that THQ is doing everything in it's power to make sure the game gets buried under all the other game coming out in March!

I'm predicting this gets heavily discounted pretty quickly... But I'm really liking the look of it. Something with the feel of STALKER, but a shorter, scripted experience is definitely worth playing in my book. I reckon October...

The voice acting sounds really good. It seems like the protagonist actually speaks which is great, in my mind Cryostasis and Bioshock are the only two FPS games who deserve a pass in that regard.

I saw this on Joystiq today...

As a Russian speaker, that is awesome news for me. I am excited for this game!

They talked about this game on the latest Rebel FM. Apparently, Anthony has a preview build that's the first quarter of the game, and is really enjoying it.

Anyone know of an easy way to get the novel? Seems as though they have a Kindle version, but it's only for international users, and I'm stuck here in the US of A.

I thought that the translated version of the book is coming in a month or so.

Yeah, I read later that they are planning on a mid-February release here in the states.

I also heard Anthony's exciting preview. I have got to say that little preview is enough for me to want this game day 1. Since I'm not a God of War fan or have a PS3 then Metro 2033 is out there in the open available month for my gaming pleasure.

I'm a railroad fanatic so this was sorta on my radar before but the description of the game Anthony gave really has me psyched. Not just because it's a subway but because my Fallout 3 ich needs a bit of love and I've always wanted to try a game that is reminiscent of Stalker without going into it full force and unknown.

Dang, this is one difficult thread to find...

New vid with in-game footage. Color me interested.

I was really psyched for this game, then I saw a developer interview (starts at 1:56) where one of the designers said the huge mistake most games make is they're afraid to take control away from the player, and the other is that they try to give them an open world.

Also how Metro is a linear game full of quick-time events.

I can see his point but it's not what I was expecting and not what I was hoping for. Also, the quick time events would have to be brilliant to get me on board.

So, sorry to be down on this one, guys. I really want to like it and it sounds like they're doing some awesome stuff with it. Just already has one huge (and one little) strike against it in my book.

IDK. Considering I haven't finished STALKER, Far Cry 2, GTA 4, or Fallout 3 because I lose interest along the way or get bogged down in side missions, I wouldn't mind trying something that is a little more of a controlled experience.

Besides, I like the concept of an underground world. Terminator survivors meets CHUD.

I always wondered why people didn't use QTE more in FPS games actually, especially for melee combat. We have all this processing power now to make really cool monster models and such but often the action takes place too far away from the player to really appreciate it. I like what they are doing for the close quarters combat. As long as it's just a button combo and not a guessing game like Spidey 3 then I can see this really working well.

PC Specs are out! http://us.thq.com/us/news/show/9879

Looks pretty much in line with other PC releases, 8800 and Core2Duo minimum. The trailers so far have made the game look beautiful, I hope the final product delivers!

Oh yeah, it supports that NVIDIA 3D vision thing too. Does anyone on GWJ have this?

Xbox 360 version is $49.99 on Amazon. Just FYI to any one that is interested.

Review of Xbox ver: 9/10 from CVG.

They did it in Jericho, and it was terrible.

Maybe it was just the game, and it could be done well - but in Jericho at least the implementation did not leave me wanting it in more games.
