I don't like the idea of the single band game either. And as much as I like Pink Floyd I don't really think they're enough of a 'band' band to have a whole game dedicated to them. If that makes any sense.

I think it's just a matter of opinion. It's not the level of greatness that makes me think Pink Floyd would make a great solo game, but the ability to craft a game around a ton of cool imagery, as well as some cool story modes.
The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and the Who are bigger bands that may deserve it more, but I don't find that they have as many images and stories that would make for a compelling (I'm not giving up the word, becasue it works) game. This is what the Beatles had that really made it work. Most bands just don't, even from the MTV era.
But Pink Floyd just has load of psychedelic stories and images to build the game around. It's just something that I think could be pulled off if as much care was done for it as Harmonix did with The Beatles.
But it's a fine line. I love AC/DC to death, but I could never convince myself to pick-up their game, because they just didn't create something compelling, and the product has some drawbacks. One, I'm paying for several songs in their later catalog I really don't want. Two, my understanding is that when you add it to your Rock Band playlist, it's all the songs, or none. I don't want to overload my playlist with one band. But they may have gotten me to download 8 or 9 songs. They just left that money on the table.
Overall, I don't think most bands can support a solo game. I just think Pink Floyd is a special case, even though I would kill for a mega song pack from Led Zeppelin.
Good point about the imagery. I have trouble imagining the musical aspects of the game though. Pink Floyd were/are pioneering users of noise and loops. I get mentally hung up on the intro to Money. Playing that on a plastic instrument would feel stranger than the Dragonforce keyboard parts in GH3.
Rock Band: U2 makes more sense than Rock Band: Beatles. U2 has been rocking longer. They should use live footage for the background imagery, since I played RB Beatles this weekend for the first time, and thought the Fab Four looked silly as cartoony CGI avatars.

I'd imagine it would start when the bass comes in. 7/4 time is tricky though.

1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1-2....
Bring on the 11/8, 10/8, 7/8, 5/8, 5/4 & 4/4 that is Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Part II in King Crimson: Rock Band. They're popular enough to get their own game, right?
Lol.
I was waiting for someone to mention King Crimson.
I'd buy Crimson DLC in a heartbeat.
Anything, really.
There are some seriously challenging rhythms in their catalog.
The more I think about it, the more interesting I think King Crimson would be.
Of course the guy with the Stormwatch avatar would like progressive rock!
I though about all throughout class today- Harmonix make this happen! One song would do, three would be great, but a collection of their "hits" would rule all.
Rock Band: Spinal Tap
You are welcome.
I may be the Floyd nut but I'm sure others would make a case for Rock Band: Zeppelin or Rock Band: Rush or something. For god's sakes, someone else just post in this thread, okay? Consider it a personal favor. It's like a five year friggin' echo box right now.
Hahaha, I hadn't noticed it was only you posting for the past couple of years n_n
Pink Floyd is pretty great, I like most of their stuff
I always thought the band-based discs were too much, it would be nicer if they sold as DLC or expansions and add the graphical detail and special models there on those songs only, I think that could work. But back in the ancient 2009's it was kind of lame to switch discs just to play a few songs you liked, even if the Beatles levels were really amazing.
I don't mind the band specific discs, although it would be nice if they let you import them into the regular game for set lists. But if a Band specific disc comes, I would want there to be a lot of content that makes it something worth spending a lot of time with, like with the Beatles. So the band has to not only have a deep library, but also a lot of iconic imagery and stuff that would contribute to some sort of story to make it worth it. And it probably needs to be bands that are just universally loved, which makes classic rock bands such a perfect fit.
I think people hit most of the good ones here. I still think U2 would make for a killer game, because they evolved so much over their career, which I think also helps make it interesting. Maybe REM would worth that way, too. The Gorrilaz could make an interesting package, but I don't think they have the library, and you start to limit the audience. The only way it works is if there is a sizable investment to create something compelling, and that is not easy or cheap. So it needs to be as mainstream as possible.
You might be able to do a Blues version, which could draw on a lot of artists, and could be a lot of fun. But how many Rock band users would buy it?
And really, we need to see how many people will buy the bad game before assessing what would work. That's what will get the instruments back in folks hands and make the special games possible.
Rolling Stones would be a good one. Maybe AC/DC.
They did an AC/DC disc already. Granted they were all live tracks and it was a Walmart exclusive if memory serves.
Yeah and it was pretty much just a track pack. If they're not going to do the full treatment then just release albums on the DLC service. I don't think anyone wants to see a bunch of track packs again.
Funny, I just bought the AC/DC disc for a buck and some change used at Gamestop last week.
Well thats true. It was more of a disc-release of a bunch of AC/DC songs. Being able to advertise and sell it on shelves probably helped the sales, but you are right.
It will be interesting to see how they do things differently this time around. I hold Activision partly responsible for the demise of this genre. They diluted the market and people lost interest. I think interest would have waned regardless, but Activision was doing what they do, and releasing a ton of Guitar Hero, Band Hero, and DJ Hero games.
I was so bummed to hear Activision announce Guitar Hero was back too. They are the Volcano to Rock Band's Dante's Peak. Here's Bobby, back to drop a turd in the punchbowl for everybody. What prideless game factory is pumping that out now that Neversoft is torpedoed? Raven? The shambling corpse of High Moon? Well, I suppose Battle of the Bands was kind of fun...
Is this real? Activision basically killed the past wave of plastic instrument games (Too many titles, DJ Hero). I was hoping they'd give up this time.
DJ Hero was actually really solid. It had no right to be, but it totally was.
Rock Band: The Holy Modal Rounders
Well now that Rock Band 4 has landed, along with Guitar Hero Live, what's the verdict? Is this genre getting revived enough for me to get my Pink Floyd: Rock Band?
I think it's David saying no to their music being in these games. They currently dont need to sell the rights or if they are wanting to it's a price too much for these games to pick up.
Couple of pretty powerful nercros on this thread.
