DDO: Khyber Roll Call

I've missed quite a few chests and secret areas because I couldn't pick a lock or I wasn't smart enough to figure something out, but I finally encountered one that required strength and I got some loot. I think its a nice touch, it adds "realism."

Now I want to roll a rouge....

This is true, but the gear rewards from the beach tutorial are *really* nice. For melee, a +1 weapon with an extra fire damage, a trinket of waterbreathing, a good armor(+1), and a fair amount of XP. All of snowy is soloable on normal unless you run into one of the wilderness elites at too low a level, but they're random spawn each time you enter the quest, so you can drop and retake the quest and they'll probably be wrong.

If you don't really care about the weapon/armor leg up, you could certainly skip it, but if you're a total newbie like me, that extra bit of breathing space is nice.

Also, I just like the snowy Korthos quests.

If you skip the beach, you just get the rewards and XP handed to you. Minus anything you pick up in crates, basically.

Also, once you are in sunny Korthos, you can do all the same quests and get all the same rewards. As a matter of fact, when you hit the Korthos wilderness, it's snowy.

I can't help but feel like I'm missing something in this game. I got my guy to level 2, but he still misses most attacks most of the time. I got invited to a pick up group and re-did some quests at a higher level, but I can't get the hang of healing people fast enough. Does anyone have some good tips for people like me who just don't "get it"?

We were running pretty strong with 2 clerics and my barbarian hacking away. Strength of the Bull makes him very happy.

We might have used a rogue at a few points (The chest behind the acid traps sticks out in my mind :)) but it worked quite well overall. The only time we had trouble is when we were suddenly faced with a stronger than usual group that we weren't prepared for. Every time I died I knew there were a couple of abilities I should have used but I croaked before I realized I needed them.

I'm curious about how people are finding the specialist classes. Do you need a group to play bard or rogue or even ranger?

I can't speak about the bard class from experience, but it seems to be a jack-of-all-trades class with some nice group buffs and a fair amount of crowd control spells. He is also fairly resistant to magic and missiles, but vulnerable in melee. Undead would be a big problem since they're fairly immune to crowd control.

Your odds to hit with melee weapons is based on your strength, so if that's low, you'll miss a lot.

Unless you have a high Dex take Weapon Finesse and use a light weapon.

Well, since it's finally F2P, I started an account. I kinda regret that I didn't buy a box ahead of time, but no loss. If I like it well enough down the road, I'll just buy the extra two slots. Anyway, my char is on Khyber as well, Elven Ranger named Cuchel Nornes.

Atras, not sure if the situation is the same for you, but my cleric equipped a tower shield he wasn't proficient in (the little ! at the bottom of the inventory icon was a little obscured by the artwork) and his chance to hit went from +2 to -10.

I made a custom rouge yesterday and the spent a while learning how to play her. I'm REALLY looking forward to weapon finesse. Also, when you do a custom build you can choose your alignment, for all those who were missing that.

Pegeen Oakfoot, Halfling rouge.

Atras, go to your inventory and let us know what your to hit chances are on your main hand.

I just found out last night that equipment with bonuses that affect the same stat don't stack.

i.e. If you have a belt that gives +1 strength and a cloak that gives +2 strength, you only get +2 str.

A third of my kit is completely redundant.

I really like how levels really mean something right from the get go. Rather than having the first 10 levels fly by, it's taken a good amount of time to get to level three. I find myself enjoying the level I'm in more and feeling a sense of satisfaction when I do level.

Also the auto-decline trade and join party option is a really nice touch.

Is it too late for a name change? I really think Maxx Factor would have been a better name for your Halfling rouge.

There are a few stat boosts that will stack, most are granted by feats and a few by items. For the most part you are correct, it allows for more diversity in boosts and discourages super powerful builds.

100 times this. I've sunk 10 or 12 hours in, and I'm almost 3 ranks in to level 2. One of the things that's kind of irritating is that it seems nigh-impossible to find anything hidden unless you're a rogue.

Updated.

I actually like this part of the game. Knowing that rogues have some value in addition to being a melee DPSer.

My paladin has a ring that lets her see hidden things, don't remember where I got it though.

That said, I did play my rogue most of the day (level 2.2), and I usually find arrows and money in those chests. Solo rogues are frustrating, but once I got a hireling to tank I became a backstab machine.

Bah! Why couldn't spellcheck have known what meant?!? I mean this is a D&D thread.

Could you change that for me Mojo?

I've been playing on another server. but definately would like to join up with you guys

Mynril - dwarf rogue

I'll see if i can find some of you on tonight for an invite.

Just finished a dungeon lvl that had an element really showed off DOD's use of vertical space.
After clearing a large room of melee opponents in the middle and flanked by ranged opponents on ramps you have to make your way down a vertical shaft. You end up having to hop straight down from small ledge to small ledge, miss-jump and you're pretty much done for, once at the bottom your attacked by multiple opponents on elevated platforms.
It was challenging, it was different and best of all it was pretty darn fun

Khyber Serveer Restart 10:15 PM Eastern (-5 GMT) Sep 14, 2009 01:08 EST
The Khyber server will be restarted at 10:15 PM Eastern (-5 GMT) on Sunday, September 13th. We anticipate the downtime will last approximately 20 minutes. All other servers will remain online. Thank you for your patience!

Is it just me - or did the announcement for the server restart come out AFTER the server restarted?

It did. I was trying to get on at 10:05, but the server was down. There was a scheduled restart for a different server, so I think that might have something to do with this.
Edit - It's back up now, but I'm looking at quite the wait to get in. If you're a VIP you should have no trouble though.
Edit Part 2 - Or I could get in within minutes, despite being told there was an hour wait. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

That's twice in one thread, man.
I don't mind what you do with pigments in your own home, with consenting adults, but in the threads, we should keep it on topic.

Can I get an invite to the guild?
I play on the new Canith server usually but I rolled a new Cleric on Kyber to roll with you guys

I'm "Masteen Het", Human cleric.

anyone have any recomendations for a starting rogue? I put points more into a melee strong rogue but still having alot of pick/traps skills..

and feated 2 weapons to start.

Does it matter what types of weps i use? I heard short swords are best

also, what about multi classing early? also read that some do a quick level into fighter or ranger.

any advice would be great!

I have a Monk named stygma. Can I get an invite?

You want a light weapon in your off hand.

I believe that reduces the To-Hit modifier by either 0/4 or 2/2 (Main Hand / Off Hand)

Make sure you have a high Hide / Move Silently. Being able to sneak in a get that initial backstab damage is huge. Also you might want to try and raise your bluff skill. I believe you can use it in battle to cause the monster to be susceptible to sneak attacks for a short duration.

That was before I knew what I was doing. Either way, we all know this is just a communist conspiracy to destroy my credibility.

Go to the hireling vendor and get the barbarian. He'll keep the rif-raf from taking your HP needlessly and will hold the attention of mobs, allowing you to backstab them all.

Once you get some points, upgrade where you feel you are deficient.

We need to set up a game night.

Bluff takes a while to activate and you can get more damage from attacking in the time it takes to use it. More important for a rogue is diplomacy as it will drop aggro from you when you get it and allow you to continue sneak attacking.

If you want to build a rogue of any kind you need to read this:
Notes from a Dancing Rogue

I have a rogue named Ktrina and a cleric named Mogrum

So far I am having fun just soling - only lvl 1 on both characters

perfect thanks arovin!
