DDO: Khyber Roll Call

Well, I'll download it tonight and we'll see

I played this for a little bit a while back. It's definitely a good game and worth checking out. It's currently being reinstalled on my PC.

I'd be interested, I've only ever soloed but have come away impressed by the 10 or so dungeons I've run through.

I'm fascinated by rogue, am also open to barbarian or wizard. I would like rangers but apparently bow fighting is terrible.

Rangers are very good melee fighters due to their focus on Two Weapon Fighting. They also can swap between using a bow and melee very easily in combat.

Ranged damage is not as bad as it used to be. But it does require very specific build choices to be optimal. Much of the animosity towards bows and ranged combat in general comes from bad players not knowing when it is time to but the bow away. Many times you will have a ranger only using their bow and kiting groups of mobs around the dungeon. The melees then have to chase and often cannot hit the mobs at all.

If you want to focus on ranged damage 100% of the time then I would suggest and Artificer or a Fighter/Ranger/Monk split. Really though if you are not focused on optimizing your biuld for end game raids and epics then you can have fun with anything. Plus since we are starting a static group you will not have to worry about Pubs being elitist and dissing your build.

If anyone wants help with planning their character let me know there is a ton of info out there and it can be very overwhelming.

It looks like we currently have 5 for the static group:
Animej
Arovin
Blind Evil
Karmajay
Spynavy

The max party size is 6 players, if we get one more we will have a full group. Even if we get a couple more than 6 it should be fine as the dungeons scale and we can split the group into 2 parties if we have to. If there is enough interest for a full second group then we will have enough to do raids, that would be awesome. Raids are capped at 12 players and there is a really fun one around level 6.

I would also like to pimp the Server Orien since that is where all my stuff is. If no one has any attachment to Khyber then I would like to have the static game night on Orien. If anyone objects, then I have not problem sticking with Khyber.

You can put my name in for a group member. I think I have a Sorcerer on Khyber, level 3 perhaps, but if everyone wants to start new characters on a different server I am fine with that. Have days/times been decided? Wednesdays and Sundays are bad for me, Wednesdays are actually impossible. I prefer starting around 9pm EST, and can usually stay up until 1am with no problems.

Oh wow... I've been pondering getting back into this game with Underdark as well... hmmmmm...

Unemployed* bachelorhood = available any old time.

*hopefully not for long

How does Tuesdays at 9PM Est work for everyone?

Sounds good to me, but this Tuesday is the 15th and a little niche game is releasing that I have been wanting to test out so I may have to wait until the following week (22 May).

Game of Thrones, woo!

Tuesdays in general might be weird because of that being release day. I'm up for whatever, of course. But I'd have to tear myself away on the 22nd because of Dragon's Dogma.

Oh yeah Game of Thrones gets released too

Would Thursdays work better for everyone then?

I think so. I am starting from scratch. Do I need to level a character or we all going to start after the tutorial ends?

Which server again?

Lets plan on starting from after the tutorial ends with new characters on Orien. That way anyone can join and does not need any previous experience. The set of quests on the island can be run through as a group in under an hour.

Later tonight when I have some time,I'll start a new thread for tracking this static group and put together all the details.

Ok sounds like a plan.

Do classes matter? I mean can we roll if we have multiple same classes in the group?

I can't speak for the validity of the information as I have little experience grouping but this seems like a good overview. It's an interesting read too, I find.

Add Paladin to my list of interests, forgot that one. I'm pretty flexible about what I play.

Any class can be build to fulfill many different rolls. Most of the content in the game is completable without a well balanced group. If you want to touch epics or some of the bigger raids then you should have a good group setup. For the most part if you are just jumping in to have fun then and run some quests then don't worry to much about what role you will fit in a group.

Also remember that you can multiclass and make some very powerful focused or generalists builds. Another thing to look at if you want to go the power building route is gear. Loot in this game is very VERY powerful when it comes to power gaming and many people will build a character around specific end game gear.

Here is a good tool for loot look ups:

Again, character building is very complex and you can never know everything about it. DDO allows you to choose to dig as much or as little into advanced building as you want. If you just want to have fun then pick a class and one of the pre defined paths and go. If you want to build and power game then you are free to to that as well.

Here is another important link for builders. Its the DDO character planner:

Here is a link to the new static group thread if you want to take the discussion there so I can keep the 1st post updated with all the relevant info. Thanks
