DDO: Khyber Roll Call

Attention gamers with crappy computers! I noticed that the minimum WEI for DDO was 1.0, and decided to try it on my Asus HE1000 and it worked (on the lowest settings)! Now my MMO goes with me.

So far I'm liking the solo options in the game. The reason I usually give up on MMOs is because I hit a point where I have to nothing but group quests and no groups available.

Is there a way to set up a GWJ chat channel?

Dumb question?

I already have a Turbine account for LOTRO, how can I link that one up to a new DDO account? Do I need to do something to get a DDO key to enable under my account name?

Log into your Turbine Account and activate your product key for DDO there.

Ja, but where do I get a DDO product key? That's the part I am missing.

So a coworker of mine had this issue earlier today. Apparently you can get a key from the DDO site, but that seemed to be down for him all day. Instead what he did was go here to make a seperate DDO account.

yeah you have to make a seperate turbine account to download unlimited. since you dont get a product key to even add in.

I was in beta, so I didn't need to jump through additional hoops. If you need an official link to the DDO client downloader without having to register a new account, then use one of these.

Edit: Added better links.

Updated.

I also accepted an invite on my Barbarian (Jovai) to Punch and Pie. I'm guessing this might be the best place for a GWJ home for now as long as the CP guys don't mind.

Andun Devion - Khyber Lvl 1 Cleric.

I'm probably going to be playing Aion tonight while the beta is still going on. But I'll try and poke my head in after I'm done tonight and see if anyone is playing so I can invite them to the guild. Played a bit with Badmojo last night before my "I have a 4 month old" narcolepsy started kicking in.

Again, my characters on there are
Erastus
Oziel
Vest

So I made a mistake, I have a Halfling Wizard. They look the same to me

You contact Turbine Account support.

I did this and they sent me a key to my email about a day later.

Follow the instructions in the link below.

I've created my account, installed and will jump in soon... I have no idea what to expect from this game tho.

I jumped on and played this for a little bit last night and I was very impressed. I really like the game mechanics so far, I was impressed with the amount of customization you can do on your character, stats/feats/skills/etc It was like rolling a true D&D character, you never get a chance to touch this stuff in most MMOs, seeing the dice rolls for combat was awesome too! I also really dig the spellpoints system, a cool comprimize between the tabletop casting limits and the mana/energy pool in every other MMO. Really pleased with the variety of spells too, finally I feel like I have some actual spells to work with rather than just magic missiles with different colors. Overall I think I am really going to like this game. I only did a few quests grouped with my girlfriend (a veteran WoW player who is also impressed with DDO) I have a feeling the combat is going to end up being alot more strategic than other MMOs.

Right now I have a Wizard - Barab, on the Khyber server. But I will probably be trying out more classes.

I have a feeling the combat is going to end up being alot more strategic than other MMOs.

When you see an enemy winding up an attack, you can strafe out of the way of it. You can block doorways. You can be surrounded and trapped due to the collision models. You can dodge (by moving, not the feat) arrows and (some) spells.

You can also pull up your shield if you have one.

I am really impressed by DDO. I've always been a fan of the D&D system (No 14,000HP builds here) and am a fan of LOTRO so things are looking good.

Still, I wish I had a better grasp of the pay system. Isn't there a per month option as well as the micro transactions? What's with the level 4 cap? I get the feeling all my F2P fun is going to run into a wall at some point.

What's with the level 4 cap?

If your talking about what I think your talking about then it isn't a cap, it's a rank within a level. So, you can be Level 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 before leveling up to Level 2.1. At least, I think that's how it works...

Also, I'm playing (very slowly at the moment) as a Level 1 human wizard named Ashec Garrian. Still running around the newbie zone doing solo quests and getting a feel for the game. Might be on later tonight (10PM EST) if anyone is around.

Looking at the store, you have to buy items to raise your leveling cap. There are 4 items you can buy, ranging from 120 to 300 points. 400 points costs you $6.95.

Edit: A buddy of mine sent me this press release:

DDO Press Release wrote:

There are, believe it or not, no real strings attached here. As a free player, you can level all the way to 20, see most of the game’s adventure content, and interact meaningfully with other players. No money – subscription or Store – required. What have you got to lose?

Recommendation – Really, you’ve got no excuses. The game’s free, after all. At least give Eberron Unlimited a try when it launches next month. Honestly, though, we really liked what we saw, and not simply because the game’s easy on our wallets. It’s a fully fledged, fun, fairly unique MMO. The fact that it’s free, then, is merely icing on an already very attractive cake.

Want to know more about DDO: Eberron Unlimited? Then check out our in-depth interview with DDO developer Turbine!

So maybe you can level up all the way?

Edit #2: So I just realized that while playing you actually earn some points for the store. Maybe there is a level cap, but you can earn enough points in the game to be able to raise it without having to spend money.

Now, I don't know if this still is the case, but the glyph to go past level 4 should be a reward from the lighthouse island quest in Stormreach.

You can also subscribe to DDO just like every other MMO out there and get full access to all quests and levels.
You still have to unlock Drow(either via favor or the store), 32 point builds, and Favored Soul. But you get all the actual content.

You should still be able to open up more levels via the glyph BadMojo mentioned. You don't *have* to buy anything, though eventually I imagine you may run out of dungeons to run.

I leveled my sorcerer to level 2 last night and I am enjoying the game too...looking forward to meeting up with people online....I wonder what level group quests start? After getting off the island?
My only complaint about the game is the graphics (I downloaded the highest graphics version but was not particularly impressed...I like WOW better in this regard) and the sound (voices cut in and out mid-sentence, and then only on one speaker).
See you soon online. I need to get into the guild still.

Do you have surround sound turned on? I found that sometimes with the spoken dialog the postional sound does not work correctly. Turning off surround fixes it.

Yeah I was checking out the store earlier and saw I had 50 points, but I didn't know if they were a free 50 for everyone or if I earned them. Hopefully I earned them.

I saw some rumbling in the general chat about something that lets you level past 4, so there is also hope there.

Does anyone know if there is a benefit to waiting until you fill all your... um... orbs before leveling? If I remember correctly I still had one left when I went from one to two.

Yes, I am enjoying this game very much. It is kinda weird, you need a level sigil to get past level four, then you can level from 4 to 8. The sigil is an uncommon drop in the lvl 3 to 4 quests. Intresting concept . . .
What I really like is you gain favor, which translates into Turbine Points- the points you need to buy stuff from the DDO store. I like the retro feel of buying the modules I want to play- just like real D&D. I like how if I want to grind out favor (Turbine Points) then I can use that in place of real money in the DDO store.

Wips- Human cleric on Khyber
Hope to see you all on there!

You can earn free DDO points by getting the following on with any character, on any server.

25 total favor = 25 DDO points
50 total favor = 25 DDO points
100 total favor = 25 DDO points
200 total favor = 25 DDO points
300 total favor = 25 DDO points
and so on...

I just got a copper sigil of leveling from the "Walk the Butcher's Path" Quest in Stormreach. I Don't know if it's the same for everyone though.

A link to a great thread on what F2P will get you here.

Good times tonight laying down the hurt with Stengah and Danyboy. The Hard runs weren't so hard, and we even knocked out an elite.

I thought I'd give this game a shot again. I haven't played at all since launch but I updated it and logged in tonight for a couple minutes. I can't really play games much anymore due to work, but I think I can log in from time to time.

I was surprised to see that there's still a "Gamers with jobs" guild on Khyber - although most of the characters haven't been online in 3 years or more! A couple guys have logged in the last couple days though - Knimitor and Baba. Are you guys playing again?

I have a level 4 fighter - Deepsea. Is anyone playing in a guild or are you all just playing solo/PUG?

Updated.

So far, I have been invited people into Punch and Pie when I see them online. Until we get a critical mass, I have no qualms just having fun in the P&P guild for the time being.

I also want to point out that if you are in Korthos village and you see snow falling, you are in a different instance than the one where it's Sunny. If you play the beach tutorial, you will end up in the snowy Korthos. If you skip it, or complete the dragon quest, you will be in the sunny Korthos. If you try to join parties across instances, no go. Just an FYI.

This is true, but the gear rewards from the beach tutorial are *really* nice. For melee, a +1 weapon with an extra fire damage, a trinket of waterbreathing, a good armor(+1), and a fair amount of XP. All of snowy is soloable on normal unless you run into one of the wilderness elites at too low a level, but they're random spawn each time you enter the quest, so you can drop and retake the quest and they'll probably be wrong.

If you don't really care about the weapon/armor leg up, you could certainly skip it, but if you're a total newbie like me, that extra bit of breathing space is nice.

Also, I just like the snowy Korthos quests.

I'm pretty sure I went to "sunny-side" Korthos after the tutorial, and didn't get to "snowy-side" until after Misery's Peak.

And yes, running around with danyboy and dr_awkward was pretty fun. Both dany and I got a copper leveling sigil as quest rewards from that elite (Bonebiter's Hideout) too.
An FYI as well, apparently the DDO store is having a big sale this weekend, which includes all classes/races/leveling sigils at 25% off.
