DDO: Khyber Roll Call

In the hopes of fostering a DDO community with you fellow goodjers (and possible other enjoyable people), I'm starting the DDO Roll Call thread.

Game download here.

The bulk of GWJ/CP players are on Khyber server instance.

For the time being, I think we're in the CP boat so far. Their guild is "Punch and Pie" and if you see anyone on, ask for an invite and they'll hook you up or find someone who can.

I joined up last week with Wes Wilson's CP guild Punch and Pie as he had offered us GWJers to merge with them for the static groups

My alts are:

Arovin Summers - Elf Barbarian Tank (waiting to be played with the static group)
Shahes - Elf Bard Arcane Archer
Safehouse - Warforged Rogue Acrobat
Glorigoth - Warforged Fighter/Wizard

Many other alts I don't really play much.

Tarantella Stengah - Human Cleric.
I won't be able to do the static group, but I'm still interested in less formal grouping.

I'm in.

As soon as the f2p becomes available, I'll post character details.

I'm in, my main is a monk named "FurryFists", I also have a cleric named "Healingfeet."

Downloading the F2P client now! Pretty excited about this! From SSI Gold Box to Planescape Torment, Baulders Gate etc, D&D has always been the king with me.

As of this morning, Elycion the sneaky Drow rogue exists on Khyber. Not sure how many days it'll take me to get off the starting island and into the city though.

Soon Immolat, the mighty dwarven barbarian, will see his enemies driven before him, and hear the lamentations of their women!

I am downloading the client now.. does DDO have any causal aspects to it or is it a game where if you are not part of a core group then you are pretty much out of luck?

I usually putz around in MMOs and find pick up groups to do content with, does DDO offer anything like that?

I'm not sure if later dungeons are set up similar, but so far every quest has a "Solo" difficulty level. And even normal isn't terribly challanging. Some classes are more solo-friendly than others though.

Does the game have a place where people can find group and join up with others in typical MMO fashion or is it more like Guild Wars with a central location but everyone going off on their quests in individual instances?

I suppose I'll find out but the game wont be downloaded for another 5 hours.

DDO copies the Guild Wars model of social hubs with instanced content almost exactly.

More like Guild wars.
Edit - At least, the parts I've played.

Downloading....

Just made an account, I have a Halfling Bard named "Mercucio Bohnarrm".

Updated.

Downloading...no idea what I'll roll up. It's been a long time since I played the game, and that was AD&D. <--OLD MAN

Downloading...no idea what I'll roll up. It's been a long time since I played the game, and that was AD&D. <--WISE MAN

Corrected that for you. I've played them all and AD&D just seemed to be the most perfect system with the best supplements. 3.x was a nice change, I loathe 4.0 (which all my friends adore) but there was just something about AD&D that resonated with me. Of course, distant memories of diving into spur of the moment Planescape delves with just a AD&D Player's Handbook, the Complete Wizard Handbook and a pencil eraser smeared character sheet on a late summer evening with my closest friends might be the real reason for the nostalgia....

Where was I? Oh, yeah, downloading now. I'll probably be a Human Wizard named Ash or a Paladin of some sort. We'll see what sort of mood I'm in when the Update completes in 2:28:01. This has to be the nicest updater I've ever seen for an MMO though.

Thanks for that.
I haven't kept up with the rule changes since AD&D in high school so this will be very interesting for me. I'm really looking forward to playing, and not paying $15 per month which tends to lead to me playing too much. However I've still got your back.

Beatnick. Cleric. LFG

Now that they've added Dungeon scaling, "Solo" is *almost* redundant.

The LFG tool is *really* good. Not just a list of groups, but also what level they are what specific quest/dungeon they're running, comments they've added.

Banetor, Dwarf fighter
Allestair, Human sorcerer

Remembered my account info back from March 2006. Have a Lvl 4 Bard: Lyd Grasli

Rolled up an Elven Wizard named Tkyl Rojare.

2 character slots ain't much for an altoholic...!

You can find boxed copies for cheap (under $5)which gives you a month of VIP access and upgrades your account to premium (4 slots and no chat restrictions) permanatly.

Also buying any amount of points from the DDO store has the same effect on your account of removing all restrictions and adding character slots.

Can't believe they are charging to be a Warforged... Drow I can understand, but the race that symbolizes Eberron as a different sort of world? Really Turbine?

Sort of had my heart set on a Warforged Pally but not too keen to put the money into it... yet...

Francene Plower, Human paladin

It's lame that you still need a unique first name even if you use a surname. Other than that, no real complaints so far... Not to keen on the points system in the store, but I may not even need to use it so I'm forgetting it for now.

I have downloaded it as well, just fiddeling around for now to see what classes I like. I love mages but for some reason I cant be a lawfull evil one and that kinda throws my normal main out the window so I am playing around with pallys and other warriors.

Dumb question?

I already have a Turbine account for LOTRO, how can I link that one up to a new DDO account? Do I need to do something to get a DDO key to enable under my account name?
