Super And Not Super Street Fighter IV Catch all

Ok, honest opinion from you SFIV buffs. Is this game worth the full price for somebody that will never get a special gamepad/joystick/etc to play it, hasn't played Street Fighter since SF II on the SNES, and will only be doing it online as my local friends are not the fighting type? I want to get into it, but if using a normal wireless 360 controller/online code make the game not playable, I'll probably pass on it.

Oh, its playable. Just more fun if you have the Arcade Sticks, but it is totally playable as is.

A XBL friend uses the 360 pad and he says his longest winning streak in ranked is about 46 matches. I believe him, too.

Joy stick is only necessary to fight super other joy stick people. There's not a lot of those.

I bound all the buttons to HK, and just mashed. Still couldnt pull off the fake kick.

You just gotta hit it twice. Just double-tap a single face button until you get it. Binding multiple buttons to HK won't help you because if you hold one down and press another, you'll get nothing. Street Fighter games always keep track of held buttons.

For some reason it's a little easier if you jump and then triple-tap HK juuust before you land.

It's frustrating though, because those matches are no fun.

What's more fun than figuring someone out and driving a Bison truck through what they thought was a foolproof plan?

I'm DrJonezMD on Live, so add me for some fighting tonight if you haven't already

Still waiting for my copy to arrive. Still sad panda.

You'll enjoy it. The last SF I played seriously was Super Turbo, which was really SF 2.5, and I'm having a blast with this. Controller or stick, doesn't really matter, you'll still enjoy it. And if online is all you want to do, then this is perfect.

*grumbles about filthy enablers while going out to find a copy of SF IV*

Thanks for the opinions guys ( and Nimcosi on Live ) Here's to me getting my butt handed to me tonight.

You only lose if you don't learn anything from the match.

Great freaking game.

Brings back a ton of memories....

Man, the amount of time and money I spent on SFII at the arcades whilst in high school...I could have probably purchased a car...and studied more!

I'm a little shaky getting back into it, but I can feel the magic returning.

Honda is my main.

I faced a really good Cammy player today online.

For the most part, the ranked matches went like this:

Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ryu, Ryu, Akuma, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ken, Ryu....etc.

I faced 2 Cammy players, a Zangief, and a couple of Guiles, one was really good.

Has anyone faced another Honda player?

I need to start playing Rufus - that dude is bad ass!

GT: Genrebuster - I'll be playing later.

AtomicVideoHead has a party going right now. I just did about a two hour stint. Any GWJ'er go and jump in.

Most fun I've had with a game in a while.

Haha, Great game tonight guys-- I recommend messaging Datin if you want in. After a really quick hour and a half, Im gonna cool it for a bit. Gotta let the fingers rest. Long live Dan!

ALL HAIL THE SUPER TAUNT!

Good fights tonight guys. Lets keep it up, and keep this thread alive to call others to our mayhem. Datin, I hope you don't regret your purchase!

Man I figured all the HD remix I played up to the release of this would pay dividends. God was I wrong, these games are absolutely completely different, the skills don't transfer at all.

Now I'm actually having to unlearn a crapload of bad habits I developed playing that. :p

I was tempted to get the alt costumes, until I realised the things were on the disc.

So last night while playing, I received two messages from two complete strangers thanking me for NOT playing Ken or Ryu, and for putting up a good fight without a shoto.

One of them was from a solid Rose player. I rarely face her, and she can be quite tricky in the right hands.

I find that a lot of the fundamentals carry over quite well. Basics like Reversals, links and cancels are all in HDR and SF4.

Why does this come up with every single time a new fighter comes out that has DLC? Seriously, it's starting to get old.

It's lame that they are selling you content that is already locked on disc, but on the other hand just don't buy the extra costumes if you don't want to support that kind of DLC. Capcom wouldn't sell it if there wasn't a market of fools to buy it. Same goes for Horse Armor in OBLIVION -- if you want great, don't want it, great.

As long as it doesn't substantial change the game by, for instance, changing the hit boxes of the characters, don't worry about it.

It's new to me.

Agreed, but I have yet to see definitive proof that this is actually the case. I never saw proof for this with Vader in SC4, or any of the costume options, and I see no proof of it with SF4 either.

Ah, gotcha. A lot of people got upset about this when SC4 came out, with the whole Vader/Yoda thing, and the costume DLC for that. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so broad as to say "every game", since there have been only 3 fighters to my knowledge with DLC at all, and nobody complained about VF5.

Vader wasn't on the disk. It was a 10 Meg download, I think. VF5 had to have the extra costumes on the disk because it didn't require a hard drive. Thus, Arcade owners had to have access to the content to see it.

It's also possible that the title update that downloaded when you first put in the disk had the content, and you pay to unlock it. Again, with costumes, everyone playing, whether they bought it or not, has to be able to see the content.

That's, in part, my point, though I don't agree on the VF5 costume downloads. You couldn't have downloaded them without a storage device, because there are files that are shown in the VF5 directory.

Those were some great games last night everybody. Nope, purchase is not regretted. Although, that darn Seth can really make one hate the game. Send me a message when I'm on if ya want a match. Good times will be had.

I can't wait for the Tournament patch to arrive. I hope it comes with more than 2 player lobbies, because it would be a lot better if we could form 4 or more person lobbies and cycle around.

I agree.

We should have the ability to set up our own virtual arcade cabs and then invite players to play on the machine.

I wasn't aware the game didn't have that feature already.

That sucks.

Yeah, it does suck. Especially when you consider that they did think of the ability to accept challengers in Arcade mode, as if you at an actual arcade. Rumor has it better lobbies will come with the next patch, but nothing official yet.

I'd wish matchmaking was more integrated into Xbox Live for all games. You should be able to start up a party in the dashboard, and take that party directly into a game without having to load up a separate screens and all that nonsense.
