That's so strange. Other than the Half-Life series, Monolith's recent games are the only examplpes of shooters I've played where I don't run into that problem.
Strange indeed. Monolith games and Half-Life 2 are the only games it does happen to me in. I'm stuck in Nova Prospekt because I have no idea how to get out of the bit I'm in. It's not even a big bit.
That little plaza you go into right after you leave the train station, I was stuck there for an embarrassingly long time. I don't think I ever got stuck anywhere else though.
Ugh...I think I'm done with Dragon Quest for now. I've hit the inevitable "boss you can't kill because you were following the story and not grinding levels" section of this particular JRPG and I really can't be arsed grinding levels. Since we're entering the silly season for games anyway, I think I shall concede defeat for the time being.
I won't be returning to Condemned. The game beat me.
Although, come to think of it, it might be a much better title on PC than on the 360. It seems like the sort of game that would really thrive in the isolated, immersive environment of the desktop than the open, easily-interrupted environment of the console. I think the maps might be a bit easier to follow then.

Condemned is definitely a game that needs to be played in a dark, isolated room. I've managed to turn a small spare room in our house into a game area where I'm not interrupting anyone else and they're not interrupting me. This very much increases the immersion while letting me sit in a comfortable chair.
I spend enough time in front of my home computer for work. I want my gaming time to be in a different room and in a more relaxed posture.
And for what it's worth, I thought Condemned completely fell apart by the end. Mini-spoiler:
It starts out as a serial killer story and ends up being some paranormal interdimensional mess. Kind of the same thing that happened with Indigo Prophecy. I love sci-fi games, but I hate when a non-sci-fi story turns sci-fi at the end.
I'm erroneously crossed off the list. I'm still in the Bonehoard in Thief, I haven't touched it since then!
And I'm not going to finish it this month, for a couple of reasons. First, I ordered a copy of Thief: Gold which arrived today, so I'll be starting over (for the millionth time); and second, if Thief gets picked as the next game for the Vintage Game Club, I'll play it along with them (or play by myself if it doesn't).
So once again, it's on hold. It's only been a decade, what's a few more weeks? And I bought Battlefield: Bad Company on a whim, not a pile'o'shame game at all, and am plowing through the single player now. Sometimes a body's got to blow some stuff up.
Mass Effect goes down, and I unlocked a custom gamer picture. Yowza!
The sad thing is I'm at least two more runs away from getting all the achievements.
I also finished Mass Effect. Great game, and it really gets me in the mood to play another RPG. The only negative in my mind was that apparently the whole galaxy only has about two floor plans. I'll certainly work on Star Control II now, but I expect it will be a while before it gets done. I also need to select another console game. FFXII? Oblivion? Something I don't yet own?
OK, Fable has beaten me this month. Not because I'm not enjoying it (I am, in fact, past the first game, I'm into the extended chapters now) but because I have company and will not be touching a pc for gaming purposes until she has left. Since that won't be until early next month, I fail.
Still, I am looking forward to getting back to it next month!

Sounds like Fable didn't beat you, she did.
Wah-Pah!
The world is safe again now that Call of Duty 2 is done.
The good: Graphics that still look pretty fair four years later, fantastic sound, MASSIVE levels at times, great immersion with some really awesome scripted moments, and a really beefy single player campaign overall.
The bad: I would have enjoyed spending a bit more time in Stalingrad as well as in Europe. The desert sands - while fun - wore on me a bit. The Germans have better weapons, which meant I always had to scavage them first Some of the voice clips began to get old after a while. Respawning enemies.
The controversial: I'm really torn about the regenerating health system. During the first half of the game, I hated it because it was basically a game mechanic that relegated dying solely to moments when the player did something colossally stupid. Failure was actually difficult to come by if you were playing as you should. During the second half, when taking large amounts of damage became nearly unavoidable in some sections, I became somewhat thankful for it, and realized that it's better than the "take a step forward, kill a guy. quick-save. take another step, kill another guy, quick-save again. take another..." rhythm I sometimes practice in other shooters. If death does occur, CoD2 provides very frequent, appreciated checkpoints which get you right back into the game (though I'd prefer being "saved" by a medic instead of seeing a loading screen). So, even though regenerating health is a trope that really only works in a sci-fi setting, and it makes the game far too easy for much of the campaign, it also eliminates a ton of frustration and the wearing out of your quick-save/load keys. I don't know what to think about it.
Finished up Prince of Persia this morning. I really enjoyed the game more as it progressed and I became more facile with the combat. That being said, the strength of the game, like with Assassin's Creed is the running around and not the combat. Beautiful game, graphics wise, though. Anyways, 2 down this month...gotta decide what I'm tackling next.
Finished up Mass Effect about an hour ago. Started off slow but got much better later on. Made level 44 in my one run - may be worth trying for 50 before long.
Bioshock will likely beat me this month though - but that's ok. I'll tackle it soon enough...
Sounds like Fable didn't beat you, she did.
Wah-Pah!
A gentleman never tells!
Oh man, only three days left and haven't touched Dead Space yet this month (I'm at chapter 7 or 8 I think). I will try though, if I don't finish it now it may be months before i'll get around to it. After finishing GTA4 earlier this month I traded it (with some other old crap) and got Batman: Arkham Asylum, so I broke my own promise not to get anything new until I finished gta4 and dead space... Anyway, I still want to try and finish dead space this week and then play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune before uncharted 2 comes out...
Living in Pittsburgh, I spent the days of the G-20 summit at home, and burned through twenty hours of Final Fantasy X in two days. I can't remember the last time I had a marathon like that. Needless to say, I finished it.
The difficulty curve was interesting because within the space of one day, I acquired the optional (overpowered) aeons, and unlocked both Ultima and Auto-Life. With a few spheres saved up to spread around the magic (and the "Doublecast" skill) I went from "moderately challenged" to "ultimate badass" very quickly. I'm proud to say I didn't do any of the horsehooey lightning dodging or chocobo races, though.
I am pretty sure Killer 7 has beaten me, because I stopped about halfway through and never picked it up again. The game completely stopped being fun, and I'm not going to push through ten hours of tedium just to meet a self-imposed challenge. (I realize that for many people, saying this after admitting to twenty hours with a JRPG will seem contradictory.) I adore Suda 51 as a creative genius, but I think he needs a partner in much the same way Mark Frost helped ground David Lynch to create Twin Peaks.
I finished Dead Space just now! And now I really really need to go to sleep, only 5 and a half hours til I need to get up to go to work... But I did clear my pile for this month!
I put some time in on Burnout Paradise tonight. I'm on the last license, and I have been for a while, but I still have 25+ races to win to finish it. I will, but this last license is going to take longer than all the others combined.
I failed so hard. I haven't even touched my marked games, but have been playing others.
I decided to go ahead and beat Dawn of War II today. While a great game....it desperately, desperately needed campaigns from the other races. I got bored of my space marines. Too bad the new expansion continues with Space Marines. Sigh.
With 13 days until Brutal legend, I have 2 more weeks of pile-clearing left in me.
I was going to do Titan Quest, but gave up on that - I'm doing Riddick - Dark Athena now. (Another 5$ Bargain)
Haven't decided yet on the 2nd game I'm going to run. The Dig? Continue on my Replay of Fallout 3? A mystery PS2 Game?
We'll see.
1 out of 2 ain't bad, right?
I didn't even touch Far Cry 2 this month. I think that's going back on the pile until the new year. Too much new hawtness incoming in Rocktober, if you know what I mean.
Pile of Fail for me this month. Didn't even download KOTOR
Just finished S.T.A.L.K.E.R. last night.
I found the secret lab in Chernobyl and at first decided to go against the consciousness. That portal hoping was starting to get old by the time I got to the end. The ending was satisfying but still having some trouble wrapping my head around the whole story and will be digging around the internet to fill the gaps. Went back to a save and decided to join the consciousness so saw that ending as well. Might go back to another save and go to the monolith and see what happens then.
A couple more missions in and I think I'm done with GTA. I'm having less fun than I did on previous iterations and on most missions, I find myself thinking, "When will this bloody mission be over?" rather than, "Wow this is fun!"
Double post
Oh man, I completely forgot about my pile once I picked up Beatles Rock Band. I guess I never really had a chance since I knew Beatles would be coming out the 9th. Ah well, another month and the pile stays the same. Gratz to those who managed to succeed.
