Global Agenda Catch-all

FYI, I left the GWJ agency for a bit. I want to try out the AvA stuff before the free month is up. You can still catch me on Steam if you want to group up.

I played some conquest mode last night. Wow is that tough. We attacked an enemy base. They had 5 giant turrets set up inside. We couldn't even get in the building to even put a dent in them. It's very interesting. I could see it being a lot of fun with a well organized group.

I still haven't played a Conquest map/mode but I play the PvP for about an hour every other night. Last night was just painfully bad, I kept being put on teams that were more then half Recons. So half my team was stealthed while looking for sniper points, while the other half was trying to do the objectives and getting slaughtered as it was 2 to 1.

On another game I was the only robotics on a progressive point capture map for the defense. Every time I put down a turret or healing station, there was 1-3 enemy recons who would un-stealth and kill it, then re-stealth or just kill me.

I really enjoyed the game during beta but I'm just not finding it fun post-release.

When that happens, do this. Switch to a week turrent and a very strong Eye Drone. Pop down the turret then throw done the drone. Stand back and watch as the Recons get lit up by the drone. You can even throw in one of the ground drones for extra fire power once the eye drone has lit up a recon or two.

I thought about that but I hate the whole "Become worthless for 30 seconds because you changed your load-out punishment." They were pushing too fast and I think the killing of my turrets was the only thing slowing them down But yeah, I agree, I need to roll with the Eye Drone more often.

When I played through the beta I went through a phase in which I didn't use the Eye Drone that much. Then one match I decided to try it out again. I never unequipped it after that. It is insanely useful. Even as just some extra dps when fighting an Assualt or another Robotics.

The hornet (flying rocket drone) is pretty powerful too but you don't get it till level 21. But I guess you want the eye drone for dps and the fact it can detect stealthed recons. Sensor "turrets" are awesome for both of those reasons I tell you.

The more I play this game, the more I love it. After hitting 20 with my Recon I made a Robotics to see if I liked it better. Being level 5 at this point is very tough. Almost everyone else in the match is 15-30.

Basically as Robotics you just need to play defense. Build turrets and med stations, and repair everything. I really missed cloaking that Recon has, for speed and stealth. I think robotics has some of the coolest offhand stuff in the game. It's tough deciding what to choose from.

Has the GWJ agency joined an alliance yet? AvA is pretty fun from what I've played.

If you hit 20, try the new PvP gamemode that opens up for you. I forget what it's called. Breach, maybe. It's the exact same thing as the AvA mode (minus the whole tech building side of Conquest.)

I thought that opens at 22. I'm about 1,000 XP from hitting level 21.

I might be wrong, but I remember the various PvP options opening up every 5 levels. (Of course, that was in the beta)

Another issue while not completely related is that level brackets do not exist at all. It's very hard for me to get any good xp in on my medic healing at low levels when a level 35 recon is dropping me in one shot from a good distance away. I really think they need to bracket off lower levels til about 15 or so that it's not as frustrating those first couple of levels now.

Huh? That seems like the most obvious problem ever. Really strange they have yet to do anything about it.

Do you have that check box clicked when you join a queue that says "join me only with people near my level?" It may be that its already getting harder to manage the matchmaking due to an aging population or lack of PvP players online during your play time.

That kind of feature should always be opt-out by default instead of the other way around.

Oh man! Having at least one member of your group be someone who's competency you trust makes such a big difference. This is especially so when playing a healer. I've backed off quite a bit with my healer and its made a difference. I'm just going to make the decisions I make and I'm going to be confident that they are sound. If everyone in your group wants to be so gung ho rushing into battle, I can only do what I can and usually if I follow them it'll will eventually end up in a party wipe from the grenade launching spiders.

So, the only way to stop that behavior is to not support it like Tkyl said in the other thread. They'll get the message after a few deaths in isolation.

Its really funny that we had a recon go melee on an elite alchemist. When he got hurt he backed off, which of course resulted in a quicker death. (why he didn't stealth is beyond me) When he complained, Devmani gave him quite a piece of his mind =)

GWJers just rule!

Has GWJ joined an alliance yet?

We haven't been actively pursuing that part of the game. We could use some Alliances like with docbadwrench's agency. There are so few of us and we rarely have cross over play time with each other.

GWJ should have been the alliance and then each group name their agency whatever.

Global Agenda to become more like a real MMO.

Open world areas have been announced that include pve and pvp content for 1-10 players. They have also said they plan on having upgraded weapon loot for levels 30-50. Some open world areas will be "unsafe" allowing for free for all pvp. (gankers rejoice!)

More AvA stuff too. Details here:

Awesomely awes-tastic news! Now we just need to get our ranks filled and get some cohesion.

This is great as I've sat an wondered just what will they do to make paying monthly an attractive deal. As it stands Conquest isn't really it as it takes quite a bit to get organized. I'd still like to see a merc agency option in the game where smaller groups can hire out their skills. to larger groups.

I'd hate to pigeon hole us in Conquest, but we'd make a great defense or harass group.

edit: Also, is it wrong of me to not want to play until they implement this stuff? This stuff is *gasp* due by march?!

So my Recon is the Un-Sniper, because I got bored of sniping and wanted to play more like a TF2 Spy. I packed lv4 Fire/EMP bombs and Cloak, lv2 Rogue SMG, and lv 1 Reflexes, and ran the Balanced/Infiltration skill tree with a focus on melee damage and damage resistance. My job is to figure out what the enemy team is doing and mess it up: get behind enemy lines, destroy equipment, frag medics, detpack clusters of enemies. In short, I focus on doing everything people yell at Recons to do, only I try to do it before they notice it's needed.

I ended the evening with a particularly good round of Scramble that went all but the final 90 seconds without a cap. I was running my ass sideways trying to destroy the enemy team's latest cool thing every time they found an advantage. There were no turrets (their one Robotics quit out while I was backstabbing him), but a couple cases of Assaults firing from above with medic backup, snipers repeatedly using the same far corners until I chased them away, etc. Spare moments were spent on the point focusing on some very agile/resistant medics. It was never a dull moment, and we finally pulled in the cap, then nailed the second one right before game end for good measure.

I ended up in the lobby with a PM from a teammate that read:

You are hands-down the best Recon I've seen in a public game. If you're not in an Agency, get in one. They need you badly.

It was a nice bit of an ego boost, especially considering Recon's my least played class. Tonight, though, I think I found the way I like playing it.

That is awesome ruki, wtg! Though that is how devmani plays his recon so you are going to have some competition there =P

I am enjoying playing my recon a lot. I really like decoy and the bombs.

The only class I am completely asstastic with is the assault. It is really odd since in every other FPS, I am lethal with the rocket launcher and grenade launcher but I feel like nothing more than a big target in GA. I am pretty decent with the minigun but its not enough to qualify me for competency.

Wow, that might actually cause me to pick the game up. I guess I'll wait until it comes out and get the general consensus.

I try to maximize my bomb damage in the game through the skill tree. I'm currently spec'd into balance and infiltration. My sole purpose is to blow everything up through the use of confusion and bedlam. 2nd function is to harass other marksmanship spec'd recon as they typically cont do much but run when forced into a melee fight as I can outlast energy wise. 3rd function is to wipe out respawn beacons. I've tried other specs and I always come back to Bombcon.

I'm really liking Robotics right now (currently level 14). I do feel very weak though. I find myself dying in 3 or 4 hits at times. I'm thinking of respeccing to balanced until I can level a little more. I miss the invisibility and added speed of the Recon class.

Finding good turret placement is a lot of fun. I like hiding behind walls with a med station and repairing the turret while it rips through enemy after enemy.

I've taken my Assault up to 28. She's equipped with the first Grenade Launcher (the other one comes at 29), Fire grenade, and EMP grenade (all at lv4), Conc grenade at lv2 and shotgun at lv1. Skill tree went 7 points down Explosives, picking things that let me shoot more grenades or make them more powerful, with 6 points in Balanced to boost my energy and resistances. There hasn't been a Robotics yet who can keep their stuff up after EMP->Fire->six GL shots right after EMP goes off, and those that try generally die immediately before their stuff does. Fire->Six GL shots-> Conc also does wonders to clear a control point.

That said, the way I play the class is to rain death from above or around a corner: I'm typically not in the fray, having no shields equipped. The damage results are impressive: I'm typically significantly above any other player in the round in terms of damage dealt. Energy management is also critical, as the build works best when you're spamtastic and take advantage of having the best burst DPS in the game (and AOE to boot!)

The real ego boost for me when playing a robotics is winning missions without a healer with 0-1 deaths. You just have so many tools at your disposal that turn a bad situation into a barely a scratch situation.

The other satisfying ego boost is when your team rips through the battle like a machine. A lot of times there is like this wakeup call. We turn the corner and a point blank grenade spider takes 3 of our 4 (or 4 out of 6 in high sec) deaths right off the bat. From then on, we mow down every challenge facing us and don't even come close to losing another life. And these are real challenges such as facing a support widow and elite alchemist at the same time only to turn the corner to find two helions and a slash and dash assassin.

One of the most difficult situations I've found is dealing with a room full of ballistas (grenade spiders) and a (stun locking mini gun) hellion or a (cheap healing alchemist) or all of the above. The robotics force fields make these situations so much easier. Yes a decoy is a good distraction and yes the assault shields are great but neither of them let the whole team focus fire untouched like a well place force field. And you will usually earn enough points for a boost force field in case you the situation is that much more nasty.

This game really needs to group players with people close to their level. I'm constantly getting slaughtered by people 15+ levels higher than me.
