Global Agenda Catch-all

Big update today... including...

mustaches!

I re-ordered it after a few days off thinking about it. Really it is just playing medic that caused me to want to quit playing, getting stuck in a support role when you dont want to be sucks the fun out of a game for me.

Anyone need another for the four pack deal? It makes the game like $33!

edit: do medics get life tap grenades? I know they get healing grenades but life tap grenades might alleviate some of the envy of every other class getting to tear enemies a new one while you are stuck with bendy laser of bandaging. I am intrigued by the medic class ( I really enjoyed archmages in WAR) but I have to admit the versatility of the robotics class is more up my alley.

Got my pre order on and for some reason, this game just makes me go, "Wahoo!"

The introduction tutorial is broken =( It took me like a half hour to figure out how to get/equip ranged weapons and special abilities. I hope there is a way to swap the controls for use jetpack to the space bar. It may have to be a macro because you have to equip the jetpack in your primary weapon spot to then use it. (minor annoyance but dumb design decision) I understand the design decision of them not wanting people to use the jetpack and fire at the same time, but they should have just made jetpack the space bar and disabled your weapons.

The medic is a lot of fun but I do understand what Wired is saying. It would be nice to shoot every now and then. In PvE your group mates can be quite rash once they figure out that you are a good healer. It will keep you on your toes quite often and it puts a lot of burden on you when if they were more careful, you could use your weapon more often and have a little bit of fun. OMG and people need to learn not to cross in front of you and block your line of sight when someone else is getting tagged. Once things get harder than the beginning missions, I'm sure those sloppy tactics will cause a lot of deaths and hence frustration.

I have been having a blast as a medic. The second weapon that becomes available is great because it poisons the enemy for a short time. I tend to sit behind the Assaults, pepper each enemy with the poison gun and heal friendlies. Then when the inevitable Recons start stabbing me, I fly away.

Thank god steam is run by cool people, another pre-order canceled. I am going to let this one bake a bit in the oven and see what comes out before I jump back in.

It is real close to being a win for me, jut not there yet.

How did you cancel the preorder? I'm thinking I'm going to swap to STO instead.

I'm having a blast with GA right now. Medics rock but I think STO is going to have more longevity. I know I don't have to pay a monthly fee for GA but I can't help but think that after 2-3 months the mission availability won't be as plentiful. I am already starting to see more and more players decline PvE groups and I don't like that trend at all.

I struggled a bit with the Assault until I reached 7 and was able to equip the rocket launcher. Then I totally hit my stride. Its not my best class by far though. The Recon is not my cup of tea either, though I may try it out because the decoy summon is right up my alley strategically.

I am coming into my own though with both the medic and robotics classes. Man they rock hard core!

I haven't cancelled and no plans on doing so but if you go to the games steam forums you will find what todo and even suggested emailed

Steam support pages, then use the ask a question button, billing and payment then cancel preorder.

I'm really happy Steam let me cancel my preorder on this. I think I just jumped the gun and got too excited seeing something that looked like it might be Planetsidey. The game is okay, but I really don't need to be preordering fairly generic first-person shooters when I have about eight zillion other games to play.

Yah, Steam was great about canceling mine too. Its nothing against this game. I am going to have great fun with both but I do not have the funds so I'm going to have to be choosy. I will pick up this game at some point. I had too much fun doing missions and actually getting some kills in PvP. (and winning some matches as well)

I completely get it. There's an evenly weighed scale when it comes to hope versus reality. Global Agenda may not live up to my expectations, but I'm still happy to be one of the folks giving it a shot. But the price of things is certainly relevant. Those of us in-game will share our impressions, I'm sure. We'll see how things turn out.

Last second cancel of pre-order. The devs decided to force everyone into one random PvP queue, you can't select the game mode you want to play. And since 3 of the 5 modes just end up being frustrating as hell, that kills the entertainment for me.

The PvE is all dependent on your team. Good team? Cakewalk. Bad PuG? Too frustrating to deal with. You just do it to farm for crafting bits, and the crafting system is too weak to worry about. All the money is earned in the PvP, and the exp tends to be better in the PvP missions too.

The Alliance vs Alliance matches? A few hours each day, badly timed. I.E. rush home from work and hope you make it, then wait the second option, miss that? Third one starts close to midnight... And its dependent on your team having room for you.

So, that leaves the 'Mercenary' PvP, and with the forced random, its turns into an exercise in frustration. Too much frustration in my life right now, not willing to pay for more, thanks. Too many other games out there.

It really is a shame. This game was so close to being great. But it's little design decisions here and there that ruin it.

Kinda like the early decisions at WAR's launch. They need to learn that players Female Doggoing but they are still playing is better than, zomg we don't want players to Female Doggo so we make drastic changes to things that aren't broke and so now they really got no one to Female Doggo because no one is playing.

Early start is today at 3pm EST for those who pre-ordered.

They released a video of the most succinct explanation of conquest gameplay so far:

I'm in as Taikuo, obviously. And sometimes my son might play to try it out. Anyone founded the Agency yet?

I'm djori. I don't think we have enough for an agency... =(

While it doesn't look there's a ton of interest, I'm in. Look up BuckDharma anytime and I'd be interested in a invite it there's a GWF agency or if the GWJ ers hook up with a bigger group. I generally play a medic type because I'm too old to slug it out with the kiddies!

Its really funny. I have been generally stinking it up in PvP, yet I always seem to be on winning teams. And I think that while my stats are very average, I can't help but think that in more than a few instances, I made the right decisions that helped turn the tide. Its a carry over from Planetside. I was always the first one to stick my neck out in a stale mate and as a reward was always the first one to die. Yet the success is in how long you survive and how disruptive you become. If you ever needed a diversion, I'm your guy. I guess you get your reward when you see, "point captured" just as you respawn =)

I love being Recon. Running around stealthed, then sneaking up on someone then killing them with my sword. Then going stealth again to get away. The jetpacks are awesome. I can't wait to try conquest mode when it opens up.

If anyone is playing, look me up. Name is DigitalFirefly in GA and on Steam.

Boy, I gotta say, I've put in a few hours now in all of the classes and I LOVE this game. You can tell it's not a AAA release but if they can get enough of a player base to allow them to survive, I think this could be great. It's got a nice TF 2 vibe going on and while the graphics are nothing that's going to sell the game, everything runs very smoothly. Look forward to seeing you guys in game!

Servers are down until Monday. I'm really surprised how much I like the game.

I'm pretty psyched about the launch tomorrow. I've taken the day off and am looking forward to geeking out in earnest. Good luck to all of you!

So, any chance of a GWJ agency or sub-culture in another agency? If so, I'd love to join, just look for BuckDharma. I'm with Doc and Digital on this one, came completely out of left field but I'm having a blast. I'd love to see them eventually move into some vehicular mayhem maps eventually, that would be great.

Maybe we can set up a regular GA game night. It looks like it would be easy to get 4 of us together for some medium or high security missions.

Speaking of which, I was with a great pug the other day and we ran into an unusually hard medium security mission. Thankfully we were efficient because we only had less than 3 minutes to kill the boss. We had an unusually high amount of elites throughout the level and they were clumped together. About 3 times we had to fight an elite assassin with an elite hellion. A few times after surviving that, we would run into a purple squiggly stealth guy or we would turn a corner into a room full of the grenade launching spider clumped together. I think one of the times, we had to fly through dual crushing traps only to face a hellion on the other side. Thankfully the robotics guy had his shield cooldown up so we were able to pound the hellion easily despite being in close quarters. But needless to say, we were not going to get the no death bonus. I think we ended up getting over 1500 xp without it which is more than the typical 1300 xp you get without the no death bonus.

There is a flaw in this game. Sure PvP is the way to make xp... if you win. If you lose you get ~1300xp but the matches are much longer than the pve missions. Even if you win sometimes the matches can take 20 minutes. Low security missions will net you 900 xp in 5-6 minutes or maybe even 10 minutes. So its even close to as efficient with winning PvP @ 2300 xp for 20 minutes.

Which brings me to another pet peeve. I have played a lot over the past few days. I have one of every character to the max 10 for early headstart. It amazes me how someone level 7 that is playing low security missions, does not know that the furnace is a trap. I've been pissed that we've lost the no death bonus more than a handful of times because, someone has run right into the flames or they've jumped into the green acid pits. I understand a party wipe when turning the corner into a pile of grenade spiders. But all of the traps were so obvious to me when I first encountered them (btw i hate the elevator shaft crushers) that I can't understand someone saying, "Ooh pretty flames in an oven! Lets jump in." /rant off

This looks quite interesting! I was speaking to Spacedog about it a couple of weeks ago, apparently he's in your group docbadwrench?

Does anyone know how the servers are set up for Oceanic players? Being a shooter, US servers could be an issue for us ANZAC goodjers, or have they handled that well? I know I regularly get between 400-500 latency in WoW which seems like it'd be a real problem in this game.

Why yes, SpaceDog is in my group. It's difficult what with him being an employed Kiwi nowadays. He is finding Steam downloads are slow as hell, but in-game action is pretty responsive.

I concur completely that there needs to be an alliance for we GwJ'ers. My Agency is pretty small and tight-knit. We aren't aggressively courting people because we're all employed, often dads, and can't commit to the hard-core gaming constituency's needs. But we're always interested in more members provided you can deal with a leader who has tons of familial and career commitments (ie - me).

Keep on' shooting bad people!

Ooh, I'll join doc! My character name is djori. Please add me. My best char is probably the robotics followed closely by the healer. I'm good at the recon but I just play him like any other sharp shooter. I don't stealth around a lot. My assault is ok but I was disappointed with both the rocket launcher and grenade launcher. I may be able to tweak her some to make her more playable by getting the talent that increases energy pool. I just don't like that with the stock launchers, I get 3-4 shots before I'm out of energy. There is also a talent that lessens the energy cost for weapons, but it only lowers it by 10% which doesn't help much.

My robotics character just hit 11 and got his shotgun. I can't wait to try it out. My other characters are (11rob, 10h, 9a, 9rec)

Great story today... I had a medium security mission with no healers. It was me and another robotics, an assault, and a recon. Well the recon and assault wanted to rush and promptly went of and died in the first minute. Then, of course, they disconnected. So it was me and the other robotics. My teammate said to me,"We can do it." I agreed and so we did. We made it through the whole mission just us two with only one more death. We killed the boss with 2.5 minutes left and got the low player death bonus. It was amazing watching us trade off shields, turrets and med stations. The boss was kicking our tail until I got a team boost, and then it was over in mere seconds!
