Global Agenda Catch-all

I'll certainly be watching with interest, though I'm really waiting for Planetside 2. :D

You and me both brother, you and me both.

And reading out minds HiRez just posted some new public info about what we are talking about.

We know that many people have questions around where we expect the game to go over time. Here are some of the items that you can expect to see after release and over the next six month (much of it based on user feedback).

Since we feel good about our core game play and systems (It took 4 of the 5 years to get in place), you should see significant amount of new content going forward

* New social space(s) with more to do in them and more immersion (for example, a new outdoor city location with a specialized area for vehicle racing while you wait for missions)

* New PvE content for subscribers (Current guess is that we will double the current number of PvE maps over the next 6 months)

* New PvE game play modes for subscribers (like Escort and Defense mode)

* New PvP maps for Everyone (We will most likely rotate maps in and out of the Qs to keep things fresh)

* New AvA maps, hex types, AvA items, and map gameplay types

* New Blueprints/Weapons/Devices with new functions, better stats, and more variation

* Significant UI improvements

* New achievements and rewards including Agency achievements

So what's the largest fight you can get into in Global Agenda? 10 vs 10?

Right now this is true, but they brought up again they are working on releasing 40vs40 eventually but that wont be ready for launch.

Badken, don’t take this the wrong way, but don’t feel duped, Steam is offering full refunds right now on the pre-order a friend of mine didn’t enjoy the game either and got his refund right away from steam.

That's what I don't get... Planetside was (well, "is", technically) an FPS with 400 players on a map (well, 399, technically: 133 from each faction), and they were doing that six years ago. What kind of juju code did they have in their servers to make that work so well? Why has nobody done anything remotely like it since? Did Sony patent the magic?

I actually don't feel too awful about the purchase. PVE is a lot of fun for me, and I imagine once I get a character maxed out, PVP will be fun, too. PVP is decidedly unfun going up against someone 20 levels higher like I did the other night. Hopefully they'll improve matchmaking, too.

It's really good to see that the devs are so on top of things. Even though they are responsive and know what they're doing, it does seem like the subscription part of the game is kind of on wobbly legs for now. Everything else is really solid, though. I haven't noticed any crashes or glitchiness at all, and everything is very smooth in the 10v10 PVP games, which are nearly always full up.

Also, Global Agenda is not like Planetside.

Servers are down until tomorrow for a patch...

One of the reasons i stopped playing PS was because that code you just mentioned blew complete chunks.

With only 2 or maybe 3 exceptions (Vanguard, Darkfall, Mortal Online) that i can think of all MMOs out there have been going toward instanced play spaces. Some have larger areas than others, but the days of wide open playfields are pretty much gone it seems.

NDA is dropped.

Wow, so much happened in just a few hours.

Like a number of you, I am very hopeful that we can get the Planetside experience in a game. While I am enjoying Global Agenda immensely, I am still hopeful that someone will figure out how to make all the open-world awesomeness happen again. I'm not sure if Sony will do it, seeing how with every major update, they wrecked the game a little bit more.

This may be a placeholder game, but at least my old clan is ready to shoot stuff together. That's what we've been looking for. When I'm not so tipsy, I will offer something to this thread that doesn't feel so hollow.

I had a great time with some Goodjer's in TF2 tonight. That's a game that needs an MMOFPS treatment of some kind.

Sony is making The Agency which is a mmofps, but i doubt it'll be like PS

You able to give a link - try as I may I can't find the reference

So apparently, according to a dev interview I saw on Gametrailers, coop gameplay is 1-4 players. So it seems PvE has a solo option. Is this not the case anymore or is it just not the case in current beta?

From my understanding (of what's currently in beta), you can queue up for a mission with 1-4 players. If you queue up with anything less than 4, the remaining spaces get filled by random players. So you are never "playing solo".

Do you have to wait for 4 players to fill up to play? Otherwise they may fall into a typical mmo trap where someone wants to play a particular map/mission that noone else does and so he has to wait for 40 minutes to get in. Or the party has 3 of the 4 necessary and are waiting for the 4th for over an hour.

Yes, but...

PvE missions are divided into 5 seperate missions. Low Sec, Medium Sec, High Sec, Max Sec and Double Agent. When you queue up, you put yourself into a queue for the particular difficulty you chose. So the fact that there are only 5 sections means you won't have to wait long.

Also of benefit is that Global Agenda uses the Eve style of server sharding. In that there are no shards. Every player is on the exact same "server". (I use that term lightly because really they have hundreds of servers, but they are all behind the scenes stuff that you never really encounter.) So for it to take a long time to find a group for you to do a mission with, they are going to have to have an extremely low population.

And as an example, I think the number the devs threw out was that they currently have roughly 10,000 people in the beta. If I queue up at the center "console" in the dome, I never have enough time to make it to a shop before I enter the queue. The shops take maybe 20 seconds at max to get to. Once the game is released, there will be a lot more people (hopefully) and the wait times should be even smaller.

(PvP works exactly the same way, but you need a group of 20 before it starts. Fortunately more people are interested in playing PvP, so the wait is just as low.)

I read they had viewed 20,000 has a high end of beta and they were close to that

But yes when you enter a queue because you can still wander around whilst in the queue you usually don't have enough time to actually do what you want From what I understand they are looking to increase the concourse and add things todo whilst you wait as well. This last patch has also been very good imho - really loving the game (although at mo its the non sub part i've played). Hopefully getting into an agency battle tomorrow

Here is how a typical AvA will play out, we were on the attacking team to take over a Tech 1 Mine.

The recent update made the 4-player instances tougher. I like the new difficulty.

nice 5fdp cover!

Game looks a lot like tribes in style. Were you healing?

Yeah I was running as medic that game.

I just got through with playing two rounds of PvP in GA - a quickie before I have to be a grown up again.

I have to say, I am quite concerned about how level disparity is adversely affecting the ability to feel useful in a fight. For those of us from Planetside that have been following this thread, you know that's the main concern with this FPS. I'm still on board for giving it the college try, but my feelings to this effect are definitely going into the next info-collection that the beta team sends out.

Have any of you also found this to be the case. Previously, I felt useful, but in these last few rounds I got maybe one kill. I can only convey the feel of combat because I lack the OCD to analyze the skill tree to determine if there's actually something to point at specifically.

I still look forward to the GwJ alliance. Perhaps we'll just have to be better organized or have maxed toons to feel more on an even keel. Even so, that's tilting more toward the WoW end of things and not the Planetside end of things. It's just a concern that I wanted to share.

Take care all.

Seeing a few more vehicles here.

I have noticed this too a bit, there are the anomalies, but for the most part the higher levels allow for the better weapons and better skills. For AvA I am starting to put level limits for who I will bring with me during AvA conquest strike teams.

Now there is this guy who countered my argument with this.

Just remember to click the lvl range filter in the pvp mission menu for like leveled matches.

That is pretty impressive and a medic - who even healed as well he must have been on fire!

I'm not sure the level disparity is an issue, I think pre level 10 it hurts but post I think it is not so key. I think team work much more is, got linked to a friend who was trying assault - me as a medic and we were owning the map. It did help that I had thought v was team chat only - turns out that it is broken so v and c both chat to the group. Because we were talking everyone started communicating and had a great game. Use the voip it's very well done - even if you limit it to warnings or yell for heals etc.

I've posted some voip suggestions here.

Time for some screenies

In the main concourse - mission terminal ahead, your notice top right i'm in a queue waiting for the game to start so you can continue todo things whilst you wait. Also note the m key also calls up the mission screen where ever you are!
at the moment join times are less than a minute
IMAGE(http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt177/talsworthy/ScreenShot00000.jpg)

PVE mission about to start, you get an option to see your fellows, the balance and whether you are still in.
IMAGE(http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt177/talsworthy/ScreenShot00001.jpg)

Zooming between areas, For queries re character at the moment my character is default armour etc. I can tune him to make him look uber but it's only for looks armour does not modify any stats so till I have enough cash he stays like this
IMAGE(http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt177/talsworthy/ScreenShot00002.jpg)

In a battle, I should have got it with my shield and turret up - will do those later You're notice I am text chatting. The game has full voip for within your team and group and it's one of the clearest i've heard. Just not brave enough yet
IMAGE(http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt177/talsworthy/ScreenShot00005.jpg)

Game completed and you get a stats screen - i'll post this as I did ok to be fair the medics in this one really saved the day
IMAGE(http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt177/talsworthy/ScreenShot00007.jpg)

Good stuff guys. Yeah, I have to say that I must have had two really abysmal rounds because it felt fine today. Also, they've added a few checkboxes to limit rounds to those closer to your own level. I'm hoping that will help issues related to feeling overwhelmed.

I just cancled my preorder for the game, after another night of watching 2 of the mega alliances domniate the map, I realized that this style of small skirmishes will not give me the gameplay I am looking for.

CTC has already reached a tech level beyond anyone else so their main hub is protected by shields that will not allow anyone to even queue up an attack against. the others they have tanks and rocket cars that will just destroy anything in their path.

Realistically the conquest mode will be open for 3 hours a day for primetime players the rest of the time will be spent in 10vs10 matches that are no different then Tf2.

I like what they are trying to do with the game, Just don't think they have done it yet.

Apparently from the summary of the conquest gameplay they detailed a few days ago, the shields are supposed to be taken down by building a missile silo. Now I am sure the only ones who can build a missile silo are said mega alliances, which defeats the point in the first place.

But I don't think anyone's figured that gameplay out yet. If you make it a grind, mega aliiances will have a strangle hold on the territories. If you make it so that an organized group can challenge fortifications owned by mega alliances, then nobody will put any effort in defending or building/stocking up owned territories. Or we will just do the round robin like in WAR where if somethings well defended go to the next one until you are chased out of that one by a superior force, etc.

I'm really surprised this game doesn't nix the subscription and go the microtransaction route. With only four classes they could probably make a mint off of subtle cosmetic changes to armor in the for pay shop.

I can completely appreciate that, Wired. I, too, have reservations about this game. I'm still keeping my pre-order, but that's only with the hope that they iron out the issues they are having. As it stands, my agency has come to terms with the fact that we will be mercenaries - helping others to defend or assault their holdings because we're a small, tight-knit group and will never be the size of those mega-alliances.

I have to say, this is a good fps game for me. I can bop around with my old dude reflexes and still do damage and have fun flying from nook to cranny. And the pve is cool too.

I can see that an Agency with people who train together will have a *lot* of fun working on larger maps as a team. Delta Force developed that way for the hardcore players, and I can see this game having a similar vibe in it's team play.

Anyone have any links to a skill tree planner for this game?

Just went in on a 4 pack with some friends. Can't wait to play.
