"Left 4 Dead" Catch All

(Unlike cassette tape, though, it's not because the 360 is somehow inherently inferior, it's just the port itself that's not up to snuff)

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I think Valve really learned their lesson with the 360 port of TF2, and they're not handling the Left 4 Dead port internally this time around. The team at Certain Affinity that is handling the 360 version includes a number of ex-Bungie guys, including Max Hoberman, who was the multiplayer, user interface and online lead for Halo 2 and Halo 3.

That said, I'm still getting the PC version.

PC version all the way consoles are for hippys!

So okay. It really is TF2 that's the problem with this port. The rest was fine by me, and TF2 doesn't need the 360 to suck.

Oh yeah baby! I totally went there!

The problem is no independent servers so you only get 8v8 max. Allow spare 360's to become independent servers and your good to go.

360 purchase here.

PC for me. May even consider a pre-order if the deal is right and I can just pre-load via Steam.

Mac!

Okay, PC.

Bunch of sexy new shaky cam footage here.

Damn, this is looking hot.

sh*t on a shingle.

The understated musical numbers really do a number on me. I find those more spooky than anything else in there.

I am REALLY looking forward to this game and it looks to me that this is one of those games that I won't be waiting to hear people's opinions on before I buy it for myself.

Gah! I hate the people in all of these videos. And not just because they get to play before me, but because they use that opportunity to play like morons. In the first video, I waved goodbye to a guy who went off on his own. Later, he watched another player get mauled instead of using the mounted gun he was controlling. In the last video, in the hallway, the player in the rear keeps an eye on the back, ignoring the sounds of zombies charging his team behind him and then the loud gunfire. When the player finally turns to help, he starts getting attacked from behind but ignores the damage indicator and the forward momentum from the rear attacks. Again, I say, gah!

I can't wait for this game's release and the resulting tactics discussions. I imagine player's will have to learn tactics that apply to various terrain and changing situations due to the AI Director and apply them fluidly. Sounds like a steep learning curve, but once we're all grizzled veterans, it could be some of the best gaming ever.

Just think.... those are the focus testers that are helping to form this game....

It's a wonder that any games get released in a decent state!

I thought these video's were a big step up compared to the previous. Those were even worse in terms of teamplay. This got me excited again. Looks awesome. It also looks like they made the models block even less then in TF2, at one time you could see through the model of the other player. Which is great, because blocking could kill this game.

So can't wait for this title to launch!

Crap. Valve evidently tells Gametrailers this will be out on November 4, 2008. Doesn't Gears of War 2 ship like two weeks later? Oh, here comes the flood again...

They're actually random people from a big EA press event, not focus testers. Hence the general ineptitude.

Not, that's Halo.

And you don't believe that those people live in the real world? Okay, okay... point taken.

My PC isn't that great and though I'm skeptical I'll be able to run it all that well, Valve has consistently surprised me with how well their games utilize resources. I mean, the clips I've seen don't look THAT much better than Half-Life 2, which I can run without a problem.

Given the superior control, constant support, and flood of user-created maps available for TF2, I think PC is going to be the platform of choice.

I love the part where that one idiot is just standing there, staring down the hallway while zombies hack away at his back. One of the other guys even shouts "behind you!" and he's just standing there, blocking the horde. On the other hand, they were hitting him for quite a while yet he wasn't really punished for it. I hope zombies are a little more dangerous than that. I also wonder if that warning was dynamically (automatically) generated. From what I've seen the game's pretty good at that... unless there's a, "state direction of objective" button and a "whine about horrific injuries" button.

I think one or two zombies won't be too dangerous, but the boss zombies or enough to knock you down will really mess you up.

I also think there hasn't been any footage from the perspective of the boss zombies, and that makes me sad. I like the idea of playing as a human but I also like the idea of griefing my TF2 buds with my enormous tongue or my disgusting vomit (heh).

Those tongue guys are gonna be the snipers of Left4Dead. Come down here and fight me, you bastards!

I think I will love to play the zombie side. Somehow I am pretty good at being in the wrong place at the wrong time, for my enemy. Those beautiful wipe I will help accomplish, those soft faces I will smash and those nice brains I will lick from the floor!

Release the game already.

Oh my. I mean I was sold on this game before the new vids, now this is just a flat out day-1 purchase for me. Please let this fare better on 360 than TF2 :-/

want...NOW!

If the only reason this game isn't released is something stupid like them wanting to make a kick ass intro or something, I'm gonna be so pissed.

And even though it was loud where they were playing, I thought I caught some of the music in the game. It sounded like it was just random creepy piano music whenever a boss was around.

Not only does it evidently have music, but each player may hear different music or music at a different time, depending on where they are, who's trying to eat their brains, etc. It sounds like they're really pushing the procedurally-generated experience.

Please, oh please, work!!

I'm going playtesting this Friday. Any other Seattle area GWJers get invites?

You sonuvaFemale Doggo.

I am guessing that there are some nice ol' NDA's involved too.

I reckon so. If I'm able to report anything, I'll let you guys know.

Friggin' sweet. Thanks ol' man.
