"Left 4 Dead" Catch All

I know I'm in the minority, but I like the scoring system in L4D1 much better. The goal is to survive. Ther is nothing better than stopping a team just short of the saferoom after beating up on them the entire map. I really dislike that a team can die on a map in 2 and stay close. Dead is dead man.

L4D2 rewards survival too, just not with a score that's easily ten times more than the score for dying just before the saferoom. The L4D1 scoring system is only fun when you're winning, and that's just stupid.

And don't get me started on healthkit hoarding. That doesn't reward survival, it rewards gaming the system.

The health bonus in the L4D1 scoring system did lead to some interesting games, though. I remember Survivors would rather limp to the safe room even though they had a kit because they wanted the extra points.

It did add some extra strategery to the game, but that was more than offset by the massive point differentials between the winning and losing team. It was hard to keep the losing team going when the score was 2,000 to 150.

Fair enough, but I don't think many people yawn over 25 points in L4D2. Plenty of games have been won by fewer points than that.

It added a rush that made the game a lot more exciting for me. When you're 100 feet from the safe room with a couple of limpers, one black and white, and no health kits it became exciting/tense.
It's a level that in my opinion is extremely watered down with the L4D2 scoring. That black and white guy just got scratched dead by a hunter? We just lost 25 points *yawn*.

Everyone always stayed together in L4D1 also. Live and die as a team. No "Run! Try to get some distance points".

I'm not trying to say my way is the right way, just offering a different view.

So you like how I chased you when you were the tank. I was black and white and our team was losing by a LARGE margin. If I was gonna go out I was going out guns blazing!

Yes. I also like how I managed to kill you with a hay bale mere seconds before my tank died

I've been dabbling a little more in l4d and l4d2 doing campaign stuff. Could I get an invite to the group? Thanks. Oh, profile link in the sig.

invite sent

I watched ragin chase you around and then seen his body go flying when you hit him with that bale, it was sweet.

I happen to like the L4D1 scoring system also. It made it alway seem like comebacks were possible. And, if you were losing badly, it took all the pressure off and teams would often relax more and have more fun generally.

It also, as a side note, made it really worth your while and you felt really good when someone started healing themselves with a pack. That is a huge victory in L4D1, not so much in L4D2.

People who prefer the L4D1 scoring system were certainly in the minority-- but I , too, am in that camp. The differential in score could sometime be punishing-- but 9 times out of 10 (when people were not overly tense) that could still be fun and funny all in the same.
