Only if you're the humans. I'll bet you can jump in just about anywhere as a zombie and have a good time.

That reminds me, does anyone know if the people playing zombies can communicate with each other? I wonder if that would make them overpowered.

They can, but they can only say brains.

So it would be like a pub server, just focused on a different body part.

Why would that make them overpowered? It will still be tough to coordinate attacks, since they'll be starting from different places on the map... ah well, we're speculating at this point. I wish we had some hard detail about playing as a zombie

ps. Here is a neat thread:

Make Zombie Rhymes.

What are zombie rhymes? Well, they’re like this:

Q: What do zombies like to eat?
A: BRAAAAAAAAAAINS.

Q: What do vegetarian zombies like to eat?
A: GRAAAAAAAAAAINS.

Q: What do vegetarian zombies eat when they’re on vacation in Jamaica?
A: PLANTAAAAAAAINS.

Q: What is the favorite city of Illinois zombies?
A: DES PLAAAAAAINES.

Q: What are zombies’ favorite scale model entertainment?
A: MODEL TRAAAAAINS.

That made me have to go check his bio to see how he knew 1) about Des Plaines in the first place, and 2) the correct local pronunciation of the town. Turns out he's a fellow University of Chicago alum (even though plenty of them insisted on try to pronounce it as a Frenchie would). Go Maroons!

(And yes, I will continue to spite the revisionists by pronouncing Goethe and Devon streets phonetically.)

I was thinking about what happens if all four super-zombies attack at once, right at the end of a section when the survivors are low on ammo. Either way, we'll find out the details soon enough, that's true. Brains brains brains!

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how the AI director works with the player-controlled zombies involved.

I imagine, since you can't always be a super zombie(there's a cooldown I think--at least for the bruiser) , that that would happen rarely. If you saved up your super zombies til the end would be A, boring, B, Mean the survivors had an easier time getting to the end, meaning they'd be more prepared than if you constantly harassed them. But, This notion could be an outdated one. Who knows how they've changed it.

Not just another zombie-related article, this has some important tips, and the first comment is just as useful.

I agree 100% with the first comment.

The problem is we don't have enough hard zombie-related data. How fast are they, does a .22 to the brain even stop them at all, etc. After all, why should a lead pellet to the brain stop them when they're not using most of it?
Like a chicken with its head cut off, a zombie with no brain might continue to function, etc.

On the other hand, it's quite possible zombies might be fast and sensitive to pain, in which case a .22 pistol might have significant stopping power.

Clearly the only solution is to create zombies in labs beneath a mansion, near a midwestern city, and study them in order to determine the best method of killing them. I wonder if we could go to the government for funding - we could pretend we're developing the zombies themselves as weapons...
Could you think of a suitable corporate logo? I want to suggest both protection and an all-encompassing respect for safety. Hm, there will be a lot of zombies, almost a storm, so to speak...

They're forgetting the idea that shotguns are awesome.

Raincap co.? Wellingtons Inc? CallinSickforwork ltd? I don't see what you're getting at Kingmob.

Counterpoint: It's the most fun/awesome.

False. This will save your life.

Heh, though I would temper its advice with thinking scenarios and facts through on your own end, especially since Brooks seems to come with a few prejudices on weapons.

That book is awesomely funny. I love it

My experience with L4D confirms their hypothesis re: the shotgun. AR FTW.

Hm, I wonder if the developers of Counterstrike had anything to do with Left4Dead...

Umm wow. Now Left 4 dead and Fallout 3 are coming out on the same date. Oct 28th.

I hope one of them changes.

Either Fallout 3, or Left 4 Dead is moved earlier. I need to be shooting Zombies on Halloween.

Are you sure? It's listed Nov. 17 every place I've looked.

Wikipedia lists it at Nov 4th... but it is wikipedia. So, grain of salt.

I need my zombie shooting action, and I need it now!

Can we change the name of the thread?

It looks like the official release date is Nov 20th, though it was scheduled for the 4th earlier. Speculation on Left 4 Dead 411 is that so the XBox 360 release won't be on the same week that Gears of War 2 goes out.

Left 4 Dead is going to be released on the tenth anniversary of Half-Life, our first game, so that will be on November 20th, the third week in November.

Also, there is a playthrough with Gabe Newell up on IGN, which is looking great. One interesting thing to note, Zoey and Louis are both AI controlled, and do a great job.

Well that is good to hear. There are a ton of games coming out soon. I feel like I am going to be buying a game every week. But the beautiful thing is, it's all PC games.

Awesome.

I think that also puts it on the 10th anniversary of Half Life.

A day afterwards, actually.
