Official GWJFFL 2009 Interest and Setup Thread

Pages

I really need to archive my introduction. I keep updating the original post and lose what was certainly a witty and useful summary. Oh well, not this year.

As promised, training camps have started and so, too, does the GWJFFL.

Last year's preseason thread]----------

The GWJFFL is the official Fantasy Football League of Gamers With Jobs. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, with priority given to returning owners. Teams who sign up after all positions are filled will be added to an alternate list to be contacted should a slot become available. The waiting list carries over from year to year so signing up as an alternate for this season reserves your position until you forfeit it.

The GWJFFL follows, as closely as possible, the rules of the World Championship of On-Line Fantasy Football. Details can be found starting on page 6 (Section II) of the Official WCOFF rules.

Significant highlights include:

Roster Requirements: Maximum of 20 players.

Lineups Requirements:
Starting lineups will consist of
1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
1 Flex player (a RB or WR, or TE)
1 PK
1 Team Defense/Special team

Point Calculations: Team scoring will be carried out to the hundredth (e.g. a team may score
94.75 points).

Free Agent Acquisitions/Blind Bidding: The free agent system will be a “blind bidding” process. Each team will start with $1,000 free agent “dollars” for the season, and will be permitted to bid for free agents on a weekly basis. No team will be informed of any other team’s free agent bids until after the winning bids have been awarded. A team owner will no longer be able to bid on free agents once their season long waiver wire cap of $1,000 has been reached.

For detailed scoring information and additional information regarding the free agent acquisition process (including examples), refer to the rules document.

Returning veterans (only last year counts) that post by 23:59 next Monday, 8/10, will be guaranteed a spot. (Important Note: If you got left on the waiting list last year, you will be treated as a veteran for the purpose of re-claiming your spot at the top of the waiting list, but you still need to check in.) Beginning 8/11, all sign-ups are first come, first serve. Expansion teams should still post ASAP because you'll be added to the waiting list in the order you post to fill what slots remain once the veterans have had their head-start. The number of leagues will be based on interest; the target is two but I can probably be convinced to run three leagues. Registration will close at 23:59 on Thursday, 8/20, or when we have 33 interested parties.

Again:
* 8/01 to 8/10 - Preferred registration
* 8/11 to 8/20 - Open registration

You're welcome to post questions or comments but, if you just want to talk about Fantasy Football in general, please start your own thread. Viable topics include where to host the league and draft date.

I would like to play again this year.

I'm in for this year again as well. Hopefully with significantly better results.

This is the happiest time of the year for me. I am in as always.

I am very tempted to join in.

I'm in.

Somebody is free to take my spot.

I am in, of course.

Please do.

Count me in Grump.

Sure, why not. At least if I lose I'll have the built-in "never played before" excuse.

*throws hat in ring*

In like flynn.

Count me in.

Count me in!

I'm in: Defender of the Crown2

Count oldman out so that I can actually win this year.

I'm all in too. Ready to bring you your regular season allstars one more time!

I'd like to get in. I missed out last year.

I'll toss my spot into the circle. I have to make some responsible, adult choices and dropping fantasy football is going to be one of those things that slip off my plate this year. I hereby demand Rat Boy take my spot and be in the same division as Legion. And I want a pony.

Boo!

You just need a bigger plate. Maybe upgrade to a platter?

Don't let Legion scare you with his metrics. Be afraid of OldMan's Depends instead. Rat Boy needs to be hazed by him instead -- especially if he goes the homer route and starts wildly drafting SF and Oak players

Fixed.

I liked that.

I liked that even more! Fear is one hell of a weapon.

This sounds familar:

Oh right...

I've decided to bow out of fantasy football this year, both online and the local one some friends do. Somehow I don't think filling my spot will be too tough

Don't you have to have a spot before you can toss it in the circle?

When people habitually puss out, they often suppress their memories of past pussing. It's a coping mechanism.

Oh, its not fear, but it has become rather redundant, this beating my ass in the playoffs and regular season.

The PUP list is not amused.

I made the GWJFFL, punks. My chair is the empty throne sitting at the head of the table, waiting for me to return.

We look forward to your eventual return in a white track suit, spouting about your "commitment to excellence".

(Visual provided as I can't automatically assume you'll know who I'm talking about when referring to someone that has never been involved in a Grey Cup)

I'll join if there's room.

I would like to join as well if there is room.

I'm gonna bow out this year.
