Spotify

Does it do anything good, social-wise? Aside from that and track selection, aren't almost all of the services pretty much on the same level at this point?

I haven't seen anything but have only been playing around with it since last night.

I tend to agree with you - if the libraries are equally deep, why leave Spotify? I've already built up a nice playlist collection and know its quirks. Mostly, I was hoping Google's service would integrate better with my Android phone (my primary listening device) but I haven't noticed anything.

Arise!

So I've re-upped with Spotify for the past couple of months, and I'm absolutely loving the Discover Weekly playlist. I've already found quite a few new songs and artists that are new to me. If you haven't checked it out yet, I really recommend it.

I've read that Spotify builds this list based on your own listening habits and your friends' habits. So, I need some friends! Friend me up @paladintom if you'd like.

I have to check that out. I've always just ignored the DW playlist. I've used a couple of the music services out there but always come back to Spotify. It does everything I need it to and I've gotten used to the UI.

Followed.

This seems like a very appropriate place to repost what Rahmen posted in the loathe thread: http://www.wired.com/2015/08/cant-sq...

Read that, and honestly, it looks like a lot of overreaction and FUD to me.

Most of what is in there can be easily explained by possible plans.

Want to see if your contacts are on Spotify? Need to check your contacts.

Want to add a picture/video/voice note to your stream? Need to access your camera/microphone.

I see that Wired has updated that article to link to this article, where the Spotify CEO addresses the concerns raised by their poorly worded, new policy. After reading the new article, I think I'm comfortable staying with Spotify.

Are they updating the policy to be more clearly worded? Because otherwise whatever the CEO says is immaterial.

It's more the sharing with third parties that makes it irksome. And why not deny those parts and get less functionality? Too murky for me really.
