FFXIV: catch all

What's the name of the GWJ free company?

And can the company use another tank/healer?

GWJ. I have a feeling the company could use everyone. Post your in-game name so someone can invite you.

Stele Ryins in-game.

Do I have to be online to be invited? Do I have to be a certain level?

Yes, you need to be online. No, you don't have to be a certain level.

And of course, now the wife mentions that she'd like to be the tank this time. I'm level 5. Should I just start a new character? Since leveling to 15 to change seems time consuming...

Getting to 15 doesn't take too long. Eventually, you can level any job, but the first one will probably be the one you do all the story missions on. However, different classes start in different cities, and you can't switch cities until about level 10. The starting healer is Conjuror (starts in Gridania) and the starting tanks are gladiator (starts in Ul'dah) and marauder (starts in Limsa Limosa). So it is impossible to be in the same city to begin with, if you want to start with a tank / healer duo.

Ah, sorry I should have been more clear. She's waiting a week to play since she's got work stuff she has to focus on.

I started leveling a Marauder, but now she wants to be the tank. Would it be better for me to level up and then change classes, or just start a new character?

Also, is scholar a reasonable healer? Or are there too many running around because he gets to be an Arcanist (DPS) some large part of the time?

Scholar is a great healer, but it is not unlocked until level 30. Oftentimes, Scholars are casting a heal that also has a damage absorb component. If you are familiar with Wow, think discipline priests with their bubbles. I leveled an Arcanist, and while I mostly was a Summoner after 30, I occasionally switched to Scholar to heal.

If you want to go through the story together, then I'd suggest starting a new character with her in the same town. She can be a Marauder and you can be an Arcanist, and you will both start in Limsa Lominsa.

Thanks for the feedback!

New Name for new character is Argent Ryins. Invite when you can! (And it seems like we don't have that many GWJ'rs there!?)

I think a bunch of GWJers are on Grievance.

I read that gwjers were on midgardsormr so I started a character there. Haven't met any goodjers, and the forum I posted in isn't being read. If there are any players now on my server, I'd like to join up with them. My character is modestly named Rambolina Ferocity.

Rambolina Ferocity: This thread isn't very high volume it seems. I joined a Free Company on midgarsormr and I'll see if they'll invite you they are pretty nice people so far

Thank you!

Pro-Goodjer tip don't ever pick your server based on a GWJ guild, GWJ guilds don't tend to last past the first couple months of an MMO's release. I'm still playing on Coeurl and absolutely love FFXIV. The new 2.1 patch trailer looks amazing...

ungh looks like the extreme dungeons are just amping up the positioning stuff even more :/

That trailer looks awesome and I'm seriously pumped for 2.1.

Sadly this protip arrived too late for it to help me But I can see how that would be a pattern to be cautious of now.

There's nothing wrong with jumping ship. That being said, I don't know of any friendly guilds, so I'm staying put.

At a cost of $18 to change servers and no other specific needs elsewhere, meh. Might as well stay. Wife finally started her character on Midgarsormr today anyway

I meant jump ship to another guild within Midgardsormr.

Heck, I'm tempted to start a new one, but... has anyone seen Cobble? Perhaps we can revive the guild if we have officers that are on more often?

I don't have much allegiance to my current guild. They are reasonable folks, but I've never been fond of the "invite everyone you see" mentality. At least not when that's all you do for recruiting

Huge Patch today. Has so many new features, the mind boggles!

My wife and I are playing as Argent and Dawn Ryins on Midgarsormr, feel free to drop us a line. We are both about level 25, she's working towards warrior, and I'm working on scholar myself.

Man the crafting is so addicting though! I love the idea of cross-class crafting skills!

Given how long I had to sit in queue (As a tank! I don't even want to imagine what it's like trying to do this as a dps at this point) to run the Garuda story mission recently, I wonder how long it'll be before newbies just start giving up on the storyline quests only to discover that there's core content locked behind it, and probably just quit/unsubscribe in frustration?

I've come close several times, but would really like to at least see the main story to its conclusion before I call this one done.

I think the duty roulette is supposed to help with this issue. Key word: supposed to.

FFXIV was down today, looks like the patch is going in! And the thing I'm most excited about is new crafting recipes, because I'm weird I guess :p

I'm most excited about all the different ways we can get Tomes of Mythology and Philosophy now. Oh, and that they increased XP earned in dungeons and Battle Leves by a lot. If you were tired of Fate grinding to level up other jobs, this should be a god send.

What's the "duty roulette"?

And yeah, I'm fairly interested to see how everything works out that the patch is adding in. Also, you're not weird; crafting is still one of my two favorite activities in MMO's (exploring the world -- not fighting -- is the other one).

Duty roulette is basically instead of signing up for a particular duty, you pick the "roulette" and get a random duty. But you get rewards based on what level you are. So say you're a level 50, you can pick duty roulette and you might end up doing Sastasha or something, but then you get myth stones as your reward. That's my understanding.

Well, that's a cool idea with potential, given how well the level scaling works for the game.

Yeah, I've given up on Garuda for now. I've been leveling up my other war/magic classes in order to unlock all the jobs. It's amazing how many people don't research boss battles. I had a PUG where I was the only one who knew anything about the fight. It's really one with no margin of error.
