FFXIV: catch all

Yeah, I have the 270 weapons for my 3 main jobs. And the grind isn't a time issue, it's the monotony.

I should also point out: many (most?) 60 dungeons do sync item levels. I think that was a little unclear in your post.

stuff about ilvl sync

Great explanation, thank you! I didn't know that about Alexander Savage... I've avoided most raids as I leveled / geared up, but am finally feeling ready for them. Looking forward to giving it a shot!

I haven't noticed a sync on any 60 content with my capped characters. There wasn't one on Savage, Thoradan EX, Nidgogg EX, Sophia EX, Zurvan EX. I do most of my runs through the cross-world party finder though and it's considered pre-made group so doesn't sync anyhow.

When I am rolling the mentor roulette I will start opening the gear screen and checking to see if I get the sync symbol on early 60 dungeon content like Neverreap.

ARF caps you at 180 or so, I know for sure. The sync is the main reason people switched to Gubal Hard for lore tomestones.

Edit: yeah, checked the wiki and the first uncync'd HW dungeon is the Antitower.

For learning Astrologian, my biggest thing was figuring out which cards to play on which role. At first, I was just throwing everything on the tank, but I realized that's a mistake. Tank should get the damage reduction card and maybe the TP card if the melee dps doesn't need it.
I'm still figuring out (because the wording of the card is a little unclear) how to distribute the two cooldown reduction cards. I need to just look at a wiki, probably

Well depending on the content, a ilvl 270 tank will often not need damage reduction. Also some classes can have their rotation screwed up if you put say the cast speed increase on them with out letting them know, Black Mages have complained about this. This is why most astros will default to trying for damage up as much as possible. The TP and mana cards are also a resource reduction, so not quite as useful as a resources heal.

Reddit has a couple discussions about it, but there still alot of RNG involved.

(I)t won't matter in stormblood when your weapon is replaced in 5 levels anyhow.

If Stormblood is like Heavensward, then the completed relic will let you skip the first stage of the new relic quest. They haven’t said they would do that, but I would be surprised if they did not do something for HW relic holders.

It sure does. Sorry about my mis-post. I haven't done those dungeons since they were released as part of the expert roulette; I got my fill of them then. I didn't realize they had a gear cap on some of them. Here's the list for anyone else wondering what level you are capped at (should be max gear level at time dungeons were introduced):

Yea I bet they do this again as well. I would say it's faster to grind out the new crystals in fates for the new weapon introduced (typically the first step) than make a Heavensward one at this point though, unless it's someone's first anima and they just want to go through the quest as a time sink and a minion. I still think the umbrite stage and getting the resin from levequests was the worst. The light farming was a bit of a joke and went positively towards tank mounts and dungeon master achievement.

That’s fair. I interpreted the original post as being at or near the light stage. If I were at that point, I’d go with grinding light over collecting whatever random gubbins they have us farming next time.

Looks like many of the classes will be changing quite a bit in the expansion. Bards and Machinist are going back to no cast times. Half the classes make it look like TP won't really be a thing to pay attention to anymore. Don't really like the new class UIs, they seem a bit to big and cluncky, i like having as little on my screen as possible.

I am not too keen on the look of the new system yet myself. I am waiting to give it a try before fully committing though. With the reduction in skills and pvp getting it's own hotbar, maybe I can ditch an entire hotbar and use the HUD layout to shrink the meter and fit its place.

I don't like that my tank cannot wear DPS accessories anymore. No new tank classes and potentially reduced damage... Then it looks like WHM is getting weaker in terms of offering anything other than straight heals.

No sense judging it though until it's tested. Maybe the new rotations with DPS jewels were doing far too much damage. Maybe the WHM's base heals will be more potent to make up for the lack of buffs.

Interesting. I was just starting to get tired of Astrologian and considering going back to White Mage... maybe I'll hold off.
Haven't actually logged back in since the patch hit. I'll try to do so tonight, if anyone else is on and wants to run dungeons for levels and loot.

I think it's way too early to judge anything, but I like most of what I saw.

Bunch of articles up about the expansion over at massively. Not sure how much info is really new to those paying attention, but as a casual observer i liked it.

Samurai and red mage, two enjoyable jobs from FFXI? Tempted to resub...

I also normally watch Mr happy's youtube channel for new videos. He has a lot of the information for the jobs and other stuff.

seems I can't install, when I get the setup from here and run it I just get a confirm uninstall window.. it isn't installed, if I say yes anyway it says uninstall complete. Only option is to finish, running setup again gives the same.

Any suggestions?

eta: I just had to clean up some registry entries lingering from the last install I had, looks to be good now.

okay, still at 50 here; do I replace my relic weapon when I see an upgrade or does it itself upgrade to generally be the best option?

Nah, the relic weapons are out of date. You can trade it in to skip the first step of the level 60 version but this close to the expansion there's no value in it. Save it for glamour.

As far as upgrading, you'll get an upgrade probably by level 56 or so.

The vendor in foundation at the jeweled corsair sells ilevel 115 starting gear for 50s to get into heavensward. Then your first palace of the dead weapon for 60 is i235 if i remember correctly. Once you hit 60 you can gear to full 235 from PvP gear also (cheap and quick including weapon) or dungeons/raids/scripture.

The vendors in the towns you are sent to after ishguard will sell higher gear up to your levels. Sometimes you can get high quality versions off the market board for less than the no-quality from the vendors though since there is less demand than supply.

I wanted to find out if GWJ has a free company in FFXIV? Or how does the GWJ community interact in game?

Thanks

Yup. Free company in the Aether realm Midgardsormr.
You can apply by visiting The Goblet, 1st Ward, Plot 44. Examine the placard out front and you'll see the ability to apply to the free company. We'll take care of the rest!

Thanks so much!

Six days until Stormblood!!!

*Update* - All worlds will be down to prep for Stormblood Early Access. Jun. 15, 2017 2:00 a.m. to Jun. 16, 2017 2:00 a.m. (PDT)

More info: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...

There used to be a GWJ linkshell as well. Anyone still using it? I haven't seen a message in some time. Linkshells' allow members of other guilds to still have a party chat open as GWJ members.

Side-note, Stormblood early access starts Friday!

I'm in it and hang out there. I'm hoping we'll see a resurgence of folks with Stormblood and we can get folks chatting again.

That's a lot of patch notes:

yeah its something to read while preloading. Though it didn't take nearly as long as I was expecting.

Been a lot of doomsayers on the forums. According to them, there is now only one choice for tank (Paladin) and one choice for healer (Astro). Still think its too early to say much about any class.

Ha, yeah - it seems WAY to early to make a call on which classes are overpowered or got nerfed too far.

I hit an issue where my PS4 client got corrupted during update, and I had to reinstall the whole thing. That's a bummer, but I think everything will be working once it finishes downloading the game data. They've acknowledged the issue, but don't seem to have a resolution yet: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...

If anyone here is brand new: don't let talk about a particular job being weak deter you from playing what you want. You can finish any content with any job. If people online talk about a job being out of the meta/weak, this only means it's not part of the Most Effective Tactic Available. Square has been very good about keeping all jobs viable. The meta is for the top .1% of raiders to worry about.

Also remember you can change to any job at any time after level 10.

Same thing happened to me back during the March update. Glad you caught it early.
