FFXIV: catch all

FFXI vets (or FF vets in general) who remain on the fence about FFXIV should now start keeping tabs on it again.

1.19 on October 4th is bringing rental chocobos, personal grand company chocobos, locked chests/coffers in a variety of new beastman strongholds, the Ifrit primal battle in the bowl of embers, a new low level dungeon, materia crafting, and a near endless list of crafting, combat and quest changes.

Non-FFXI vets should probably wait until first quarter of 2012 to allow fan sites to catch up fully, and hopefully have the job system and map re-designs done.

Is there actually a decent tutorial? I tried to play FFIV and being dumped into the world required too much headache than I want to put up with.

Not really, although I think they have added some tutorial screens that at least show controls and whatnot.

Unless you were a rabid FFXI player, you'll probably want to wait until after the New Year, i.e. another patch or two. I was just saying it has reached the stage of possibly being satisfying for the FFXI player going through withdrawal.

Are they charging for it yet or can i just reinstall and fire it up and get back in.

It's still free.

I still have high hopes for this game once they get 2.0 up and running. It has so much potential.

Just jumped into this game a few days ago. Seems much less complex than Final Fantasy XI, but still having a problem getting into the groove of things.

If anyone else is playing it and wants to give some general advice, I'd appreciate it. I don't see a general auction house area, but rather multiple sales places.

Oh. My. God. Oh my god. This is the DUMBEST account management I've dealt with in an MMO. I thought I'd give this a whirl on the cheap (since it's dirt cheap on Amazon) before 2.0 hits, but how many friggin accounts do I need and "options"?!?! Options? Wtf? How stupid is this naming?

Anyway, sorry. I might actually play this once I get all the crap done with my account. Meh.

Japanese companies are pretty bad about that sort of thing. PSO2 has two IDs, Metal Gear Online, FFXI did... Could go on.

Yeah I was thinking about how the whole process felt like a carryover fom FFXI

Anyone interested anymore?

Do they have any details out as to specifically how it's changing?

That was a great anime inspired WoW Cataclysm trailer =P

Oh god, are you joking? They've changed a crap load of stuff. A list probably wouldn't suffice. I'd suggest reading these: http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/Final_...

That ran across my mind.

I plan on checking this out a month or so after it goes live. I had big expectations for this game when it launched in its current format, but I was very disappointed by it. The new game Director seems like he may have the chance to turn this game around.

The changes are vast. Here are a few of them:

New battle system
Every zone in the game was redone
New keyboard+mouse friendly UI.
UI will support Add Ons
Looking for Dungeon tool
New crafting system
New gathering system
New client and server technology
New Graphical Engine
New classes
Male Mi'qote
Female Highlanders
Female Roegadyns
TL;DR: It's pretty much a new game.

EDIT: Forgot one of the most important changes... You will be able to jump!

Was in the original beta about 1-2 weeks before live and it was TERRIBLE. I'm pretty interested in seeing how this new revamp holds up but they seriously have to improve the install/login experience because it is terrible.

This game is not for me mainly because I have so much other stuff ahead of it in the "will play when I get a chance" line.

For those that are looking forward to it, I really hope the new is really new because the launch game was so convoluted.

I was in same boat. Cancelled my preorder after that beta. Hopefully I can catch up on some of my pile before release so I can check this out.

I want to play but I lost my stupid FFXIV log in security key dongle and I do not remember my log in information and I ended up putting $100 towards those stupid crystalis and I am not going to give up on them.

I didn't even know the game was being shut down. I thought it was just going to be a regular expansion. It's shut down until next year? Wow. I'll play it when the game relaunches. I lurve me the Square Enix production values when it comes to the cgi, music, and all of that.

Interesting interview over at Polygon.

So how did Tanaka and Square Enix let things get so bad in the first place? "To put it bluntly, I think it can be summed up by saying we were conceited," Yoshida said. "We had server troubles, technical troubles, a lack of international marketing and research, a lack of communication with gamers. There were many problems, but they were all caused by the general idea that 'we're okay, it's the FF brand, we made FF11 work.' That was the feeling not just with the FF14 team, but with Square Enix in general. That's why I said that, before anything else, we had to apologize to gamers, so that's where the official announcement in December came from."

I appreciate this kind of honesty. They seemed humbled from the rejection of the original game and put their top talent in to fix the mistakes.

It looks like beta invites are being sent out today if you applied. I haven't gotten mine yet though, anyone here received it?

So I've had the opportunity to play the Beta. I'm not sure what I can or cannot talk about, but the game has been completely redone and looks and feels more like a classic FF MMO.

Things that have already gone public like mounts that fight with you (including magiteck armor!), player housing and guild housing, classes for your chocobo. It just looks like these guys have really put their hearts into giving this an old school FF feel (even the music reminds me of it). If you haven't already PLEASE check this out, it looks to be very promising.

You're definitely not allowed to talk about it.

Well alright then! Glad I didn't divulge anything important then

I'm really hoping this turns out well, and every time I stare at my collectors edition of FFXIV i get a little pissed I didn't receive a beta invite for this version.

? They supposed to have sent one out to everyone that bought the last one. Could've sworn i saw a massively blurb on that.

I never received one and explicitly signed up when that was a thing. Oh well it will be new and shiny when they release it I guess.

Very Cool.

Really loving the Final Fantasy VI music in that trailer.
