I liked the scene up to that part. I agree his reasons aren't communicated very well. It came across to me as some sort of macho "Gotta do what you gotta do" kinda thing. If Dom really cared for her that much he would have taken her to get help. Dom would not have given up on her.

Exactly. I felt the same way. The scene was great until he shot her. I actually paused the game and kept asking William "Why the fck did he shoot her?! She was still alive!" If that were my husband, I would've taken him to get medical attention. I would NEVER assume he couldn't be saved. Even if Maria was truly beyond help, you'd think Dom would've tried as hard as he could anyway. What the hell?

The scene was poorly implemented. No one can even tell me why he did it. People have an assumption as to why he blew her brains out but no one actually knows the reason. The Locust "broke" her. Okay. "Broke" her how? Torture doesn't equal beyond help. Since when are rescued torture victims just put out of their misery?

Gears n Beers had a particular morbid solution:

spoilers wrote:

We were wondering how Dom would actually get Maria back to safety within the game. Would Dom carry Maria over his shoulder? Throw her in a sack? Grab her by the ankle and use the game's ridiculous rag doll physics to drag her around?

Extremely poor taste, I know

I've only seen one of the Flashback map remakes so far. I thought they would be straight conversions, but have they made subtle changes across the board? I.e. In Canals 2.0, the water is frozen right?

They definitely have neutered a renter's ability to join in the multiplayer action, but that was really the point of it wasnt it? They see no money from rentals other than the initial purchase by the rental company and are trying to encourage purchases.

It was interesting that the Flashback map pack is tied to the gamertag that downloads them, not the gamertag/console combination like most 360 dlc. Seems a good decision on their part seeing that hardware churn used to be quite high and this way the purchaser isnt tied to a particular serial #. Although, the flipside is that I suppose that map-pack is only valid for the user that downloaded it, if you have multiple users on the same console.

But it's a practical question. I was actually thinking the same thing. It makes me wonder how much gameplay considerations influenced the resolution of that particular subplot.

Why did Dom kill Maria? They never explained exactly what was wrong with her. I know she had been tortured but she was still alive. That scene actually disturbed me a bit because it seemed like he did it for no apparently reason. Could she not recover? If so, why the hell didn't he say that? You don't just kill the woman you've been searching for and keep the reason a damn secret. Dom knew. Marcus knew. I don't.

My take on this...

spoiler wrote:

She was "broken" they showed this with Tai Kaliso in a previous scene. Basically a "she's in a better place now" scenerio. She would live out the rest of her life a a vegetable. It also think it (like the other main character deaths) was supposed tomake you "feel" somthing.

spoiler wrote:

I watched the special edition disc that came with my copy of the game. The thing that helps me get a real understanding of what Dom did is this.

During the interview they were talking about the length of the wars this world has been in. I think it was 94 years of war the planet had seen. I can't imagine being at war for longer than my grandparents lifetime and growing up in that. So thinking of every war movie I'd ever seen and trying to dig into the soldier thought process. I still come to the conclusion that he simply thought he was doing the best thing he could for her. When he saw her as a mindless husk my assumption is he figured she was already gone. I feel he was doing what I might do in his situation under similar circumstances. But this whole thing feeds into a Kavorkian relase someome from their pain thinking.

I think it was an intresting way of shaking things up. Gave the game a much darker undertone in my opinion. Much like the the Tai scene, I caught my intrest when Marcus tosses him a shotgun. You Imediatly think ok, we got this guy back in the squad. I found it to be a great twist.

Well, we know if Maria was found in that capsule but hadn't been tortured yet, Dom would've found a way back to the surface with her. Cole and Baird took those other Stranded back to the surface. If they somehow met up again (which they seem to do quite often), Maria would've ended up in the hands of the COG and their doctors.

I have no problem accepting that she died because there was no other way. But, from what shown to me, that option was a cop-out. It's like they wanted Dom to be the one to pull the trigger, so they kept her alive. At the same time, she didn't look like a hopeless case. The scene just looked forced in my opinion.

Oh well. That's all I have to say about it. :D

Anyway, my Lancer arrived today. The thing is huge! I need to find a good place to display it.

It's so true. It's not a problem for me though. I have a game room full of fake sh*t. The Lancer will fit right in.

I chalk Dom's actions up to him just being a asshole. That much was evident when Carmine was going on about how great his helmet was and Dom responded with something to the effect of not being able to see snipers.

Doing it this way, they missed their opportunity to do a cool escort mission. Every game needs at least one escort mission.

My retail copy didn't include any sort of DLC code. Was the flashback map pack code on a card inside the box or something?

It's on the same card as a 48 hour LIVE Trial. There is only one place to peel back on the card, but but the LIVE trial and Flashback code will be under the spot you peeled back. If you got an LE, your gold lancer code is in the same spot.

Thanks. I got the standard edition, and I definitely didn't get the Live trial card. Bummer.

Somewhat surprisingly, Game Crazy was willing to take it back on exchange for a new, unopened game when I explained the card was missing. Unfortunately they didn't have any in stock, but when they do they're supposed to call me.

What a pose!!!

I finally got some multiplayer in with firesloth, trashie, cannibal last night. I loved it, even if I was bottom of the rankings most of the night. Horde was a blast, and 5 vs. 5 was great. What made horde great was that we all get to revive players fairly often, which really amps up the sense of being in this altogether.

But what was up with not being able to find a team to play against last night? We got wiped out by one team pretty quickly, but then it couldn't find us another team to play. It was nice to have bots, though, as we got some more game in anyway.

Anyway, keep sending the invites, as I expect to start playing this a lot more now.

I attribute this to Cuckoo's Nest Syndrome. Did no one else notice the scar going completely around the rim of Maria's head? My guess is, some sort of Locust voodoo to reprogram humans into mindless slaves. I think Maria was pretty much a lobotomized shell. Notice how there is no recognition in her face at all when Dom is talking to her. Maria's gone. She was gone way before Marcus and Dom ever made it to the Underground. What he did was release her soul.

If they had just taken a moment to interview Cole, the answer would've been obvious. ... because invisibility is for wusses! The point is not to avoid the fight, but to meet it, chainsaw on chainsaw.

I rented through Gamefly, the site says they are shipping the DLC code if you buy the game from them, I am assuming that means if I do the keep it now option I get the DLC code. Sounds pretty good to me, since I'll be paying $40 for the game and getting the flashback maps.

I did the same thing last night for $42 since I had to pay tax.

So, it's like the reverse of the Terminator time displacement equipment.
Or, as Reese succinctly put it "I didn't build the f**king thing!"
