Demon's Souls - Catch All

Beat this a few weeks ago.

Started a new game last week, this time as a knight.

The game is definitely harder going more melee, and magic is easy mode that's for sure.

I prefer melee with a little magic or ranged thrown in. So much more visceral and scary for me.

I'm doing melee with a bow for ranged.

I'm going to kick the Flamelurker's ass tonight, and then forge the Meat Cleaver and the Lava Bow.

Son of a...

I better get back and do some grinding soon... no way I'll ever get the platinum offline.

I've done DS a good 6 or 7 times through in the past 2.5 years. I can let it go... *sniff...

The real Demon's Souls ends here.

Guess this is my call to finish the campaign. If memory serves, I was around halfway through, with good equipment and stats. I better start it up soon.

Beat Flamelurker on my first try. Naked, with a shield and +7 Broadsword and +7 Compound Long Bow.

Got my Meat Cleaver and Lava Bow now, and went on a little killing spree in the Nexus to get PBCT - now on to 3-2 to find and kill Yurt.

Last night I helped a dude kill the Maneaters, and then I went back to get summoned again to help someone else. Only this time I was summoned as the old monk, and guess who my target was? Yep, the dude I had just helped. I had to kill him. That was such an awesome experience, that absolutely no other game has ever even come close to producing.

Funny, I was thinking about getting The Witcher 2 today, but really, what's the point? I'll just keep playing the Souls games until that game is $40.

Geez, that is just incredible. I had not even thought of that possibility before. The 3-3 summoned boss is one of the most inventive design choices in all of gaming. Though Dark Souls is probably an overall better game, I think Demon's Souls will always remain my favorite.

So I'm taking May 31 off for the Demon's Souls celebration that'll be happening on the last day of the servers being active.

I've reached the point in my platinum quest where I need a pure stone or two. Giving serious consideration to trying to get platinum before the servers go down. Anyone interested? I may even settle for just holding the weapons for the trophy as that's really what I need stones for. I'll look at what soul level I'm at tonight and drop back in.

Have to say I knew this would always come eventually, but still sad when it happens.

I need a Dragon Pure Stone.

I have a Pure hard stone and a pure sharp stone.

I have Pure Dragonstone on a SL 141 character. All I really need is a Pure Bladestone in order to finish. I'd prefer to get it on the SL 141, but also have one at 104 and 51. It just means I have to do a couple other playthroughs on the other tons to platinum out on them.

I have all the weapons needed for the trophy and have no issues arranging an online meeting to let someone hold them to finish off their platinum. I'll log on and check the soul level of the toon I farmed my platinum with, but I believe there are a handful of other goodjers at a lower, more accessible SL than me.

Yeah hopefully we can pass it down the chain. It's several pages back where I was looking into it, so I can't remember what my, or some other, SL is.

I'm at SL 178 so according to this level range calculator means I can join games with characters from SL 152 to 205.

I'm only sl55 right now. Should be up to about 100 by the weekend. I'll be playing a bunch during May as well.

I'm SL 166 and have most of the stuff needed for the platinum, so just a bit lower range than RoughneckGeek.

After applying some sticky white stuff to my meat cleaver, I was able to pound the Maneaters.

...I'm completely confused. I thought sticky white stuff was a byproduct of pounding maneaters.

It was left overs.

I've completely completed world 2 - all relevant items and world tendency events/characters.

I jumped in with the 141 sl toon last night for a while to refresh my memory on the game - basically just did farming runs on a black skelly in 4-2 to try and get that Pure Bladestone I need to craft the trophy weapons. I'm about to just forget it and go finish off this playthrough and start NG+ to see if I can get a drop. I still need a couple other pure stones anyway (I think Dragonstone is one) so its not like this is all I have to do. Its still an awesome game and put together in such a unique fashion.

I wonder really how much it costs to run the servers for this - I mean, its not like the messages take any processing power and if I recall, pvp is peer to peer, so there's just matchmaking there. Sure, the game's been out for a long time, but I wonder if they'd release or open-source the server software to let someone keep something running. With the various glitches that are out there in the game, its not like cheating is any big issue. I guess I just still haven't adjusted to the idea of console gaming and servers being turned off. Granted, I played 99.9% of this game offline anyway, so I think I care only because I get a comfy feeling seeing the messages and ghosts of other players. I play MMO's the same way for the most part - largely single player affairs with other people as "ambience".

You're just in range to trade with me if you need the +5 sharp weapon trophy still. Just let me know.

I know how you feel. I like playing this game but as long as I have had it, I have not really gotten deep in it and it looks like I will be doing that offline.

Nice, see you there

Demon's Souls servers will run for the foreseeable future!

Love that kind of stuff. But, if they weren't scheduled for shutdown, it might've taken me quite a bit longer to commit to finishing the game. I doubt I'll finish it tomorrow, but this last week I've worked my way up to 1-4, my barrier to finishing this damn fine game.

This thread has died again since the announcement of the servers staying up. I would assume that the players have stopped playing again too. I am sure that is why From Software was shutting it down again.

I will be playing this for the weekend and try to get a little farther.

I'd hardly call a few days between posts, and only a few posts at that, the "again" death of the thread. I took a break because last weekend was a holiday, Tribes Ascend had double XP special, and I'm only a few hours away from the end of my first play-through, so there's no rush.

They must have kept the servers up for me! I've had the game sitting on my shelf for 2 years and only put it in the PS3 for the first time last night. I figured servers would be down and it was a nice surprise to find them still going and get to see some of the online interaction.

Following the guide included with my AU 'Black Phantom' version of the game I started with a Royalty class character. Played through two deaths, each about an hour. Having heard so much about it I expected the starting area to blisteringly hard but really enjoyed it. It's so long since I've been worried about death in a game that I felt like I'd been shaken out of a coma. I'm under no false impressions that I wont be pulling my hair out soon though.

For me, the first 5 hours with the game was the toughest. After I got accustomed to things it was a pretty steady ride to the end.
