Blood Bowl game Catch-All

someone hit me up with whatever I need in-game to meet up and play with you guys. Name is Harkonis

Love BB, but haven't played in over a decade.

I'm so excited about this. Played the tabletop version on the international tournament circuit for years and the IRC client online versions for years before that. Praying to Nuffle for a Beta key.

It is a very random game with d6 or 2d6 rolls all over the place. Really feels like a game of risk management where you have to decide which risks to take and when... It's also important to keep your player's special abilities in mind and positioning is crucial.

You'll go far in this game young Padawan

Speaking of violent play I managed to get a red card and a sending off, my opponent and I were quite suprised when it happened considering the nature of the 0-0 slobberknocker the game was.

Just got my beta key now! Will hopefully see some folk this weekend, timezones permitting.

Tried playing the other day and it wasn't until I was supposed to arrange my players for the kick off that I realized they weren't going to try and explain the rules to me before the game started... So, I kind of got my ass kicked seven ways to Sunday. But I did figure out quite a bit with trial and error and a friendly, easy-going opponent.

Luckily the LRB is available for free. So I'm reading up in preparation for more.

Happy to offer the benefit of Uncle Maq's School of Bloodbowl to anyone I play

That's for fouls

On the dice your player gets sent off the field (for the game) if the roll is a double on armour or injury (and your turn ends immediately)

So it`s always good to foul at the very end of your turn not to cause a turnover

If you get a kick-off event called ''get the ref'' then there are no penalties on fouls for the drive (until next touch down) because the ref is dead dead dead! (or too scared for his life to intervene)

Played a couple more games against my buddy last night. Me humans, him orcs. I'm still trying to figure out how to effectively work a passing game. First game was a draw, second game I got destroyed. Not only was the score 2-0 but I think he took out a good third of my team!

Regarding the GWJ league, I see you have it open for 24 people. Can you start playing in the league before it is full? If not, you might want to recreate it with a smaller limit (4 or 6 teams perhaps) so we could get started.

My only complaint is the length of the games. 2 hours to get through a match is far longer than I expected. I suppose as you get better at the game you can resolve your turns in a minute or two which would speed things up.

Average game of Bloodbowl on the tabletop is 2-3 hours. In tournament play the game length is usually 2 hours so it doesn't really get much quicker tbh.

I'm signing up again. I signed up first week and have no key.
*EDIT*
And I got in. Woot.

Jeebus that's a lot of rules.

Our matches in my tabletop league start at 7 pm and sometimes end at 3 a.m

Blood Bowl is serious stuff man! (at least when there's a cup to win)

Not as many as it first looks. You can get by with reading maybe 1/4 of the rulebook. There's a lot of background color, team listings, etc.

I invited the Octopus Overlords community to join the league, I figure right now the more the merrier. Look forward to playing!

Yeah, it looks like we can't start with the 4 teams currently in the league, I was thinking of throwing up small round robin sub leagues with 4 teams or so, but the main league is open with 20 spots to fill, I'm sure we can get enough goodjers (and OO now) to fill those slots, C'mon!

I cannot figure out how to join a league. Helps me.

I'm having the same problem.

I can't see the GWJ league anymore. Decided to go orcs instead of humans and left. To find leagues you have to leave the public one and then search for private ones.

I played my first match and it was a bloody mess: I killed two players and injured 3. Sadly it ended in a draw as there are no overtimes in this build.

I tried to find the GWJ league but couldn't find it.

Help? Maybe it's not there anymore

when I lost track of the league I found resorting the columns changed the leagues on offer, and I found the GWJ league that way. If someone else wants to put up a smaller league so we can get in and play some games go ahead, apparently u can only create one league so I can't do it.

Couldn't find the GWJ league either. I don't see a text box to enter search terms for league search. Only 5 or 6 leagues show up in the list.

Nevermind saw a new league in the list today so I made one with the same password as Prozac's. (stan) Maybe it will show up, only 12 teams though. Does it need to be smaller?

Encountered a bug today too... Oddly it was in favor of the person I was playing.

Cool, I'll try and find you're league later tonight Briz. If anyone's looking for a game you can friend me up in the game i'm [GWJ] Prozac. I've played 8 games... 7 losses and a draw. So if you play me you'll probably get a win

This game is definitely not for me. I found it stupid and boring. Too much football not enough blood.

I imagine it will appeal to people who have played the tabletop game, or fans of sports games. I am neither.

Just not for me.

Yeah, we should schedule a night to teach everyone through vent and stuff. I am lost.

?

If you want I could teach you the ropes. It's a strategy game with tremendous depth and while it can look simple on the surface, once you know the rules, there's a lot of strategy and planning involved. Especially since you probably haven't read the rules and have not had the possibility to gain new skills for your players (like mighty blow, dirty player, claws for mutants, etc.)

Also, turn-based is the way to go. We definitely should play against one another before you give up.

I think Cyanide assumed people who would play the beta were familiar with the tabletop game because they CANNOT make this game without a tutorial for the general public.

**edit**

anyone who wants to be introduced to the rules of Blood Bowl and would like to have a game with me, send me a PM on here or on Steam if you see me available. I have a vent server we could use. I'm extremely enthusiastic about this release because they've kept it very true to the source material. The interface so far is not intuitive and undoubtedly for newcomers a tutorial is necessary. There's over 50 pages of rules to Blood Bowl and you can't just pick it up like that. It's very easy to learn the basics though, the rest is just gravy.

I will write up a basic how-to in the main post.

I'm up for GWJ tutorial games, I've got a fairly good grasp on the game (just a total inability to win :)) but the game definately NEEDS voice chat, and one of my biggest peeves I've found is alt tabbing just doesn't work and you can't play this on a monitor in a multimonitor setup and watch a show on another screen, which is what I do for probably 80% of my gaming time. If it had that functionality I'd play it a lot more instead of only after the fiancee has gone to bed.

I might be up for that, although I've never used vent. Also, if you read the rules it's pretty clear. And pretty clear how much strategy there can be, the further into the game you go.

Friend me up in game and lets play. I'll try and help you where I can. You can guess my name it starts with a "B." I am amazed at how close it feels to actually playing the boardgame. Really took me back to my GW fanatic days.

One tip, save some for rerolls. They're golden and don't be afraid to use them.

My team GorkaMorka U. got their 1st recorded win yesterday!
