Minecraft

Biggest cave system of all time!

If you feel like getting lost go east from the tnt monument and south along the water. You will see a stone thing with a walkway in the sky. At the base of that is a walkway that leads to the entrance to a cave.

I started out trying to make an underwater tunnel to the next landmass but instead found a cave system that took me 3+ hours to explore and 200 torches. I hardly did any digging besides the beginning where I dug into the caverns.

EDIT: well they dun blown it up! A TnT experiment has now left the caverns somewhat depleted but now there is a hole in the ocean. There is a bridge and glass terrace near the same location.

I just want to give the Minecrafting GWJ collective the middle finger for making the game sound so attractive while I'm still unable to play. My check card didn't take with PP, so I unknowingly wrote Notch an eCheck. Like normal checks it takes a few days to clear, so I'm not able to play until the 11th.

Cautionary tale for any other cavemen without paypal accounts I suppose.

Sorry, Blind. We'll all be sure to play it so much we're sick of it by the time you join in.

LM, thanks for adding in all the summon stuff. Can we get a list of viable codes, or would that be too long? I want to make a lava monument.

Lobster -- code list here

Yup, that page has them all. Right now the only packages are Toolkit, Armor, and Torches.

Hopped on the multiplayer server briefly before dinner - folks told me about being able to customize your player skin through the website.

Arguably, that was a mistake.

My deepest fears given form, nooo!

No argument here.

I guess I'll work on my architecture in Classic in the mean-time.

Liquidmantis, would you post a current overhead map of the world?

Man, it is easy to spend hours just mining under your starter safe area!

I really can't wait until we can have a MP server with baddies and no instant materials. I really think that is going to be fun.

Sounds like I should download this game. Is it still free?

This game is rapidly becoming my favorite game of 2010. I am loving the crazy sandbox so much, and I know I will love the MP survival much more. I say we keep playing in this server till the game goes to Beta, and then start a new map for survival.

Not the version you can download.

Latest map:

Full-size

Map of torch locations:

Full-size

No one has actually asked for it, but if anyone wants a copy, here's the current world.

I wish someone could come up with a "Google maps" version where you could zoom in and stuff.

Also in single player, some type of compass to get to spawn.

Liquid, did you turn off the #summon stuff? I can't seem to get it to work today.

And leave "geo-notes" or whatever they call them.

Urge to buy rising...
Filthy, filthy enablers.

Sorry, I restarted the server and forgot to turn fun mode back on.

You can play the free classic version just to get an idea of looks and stuff. It just has no mobs and gives you unlimited bricks and in the paid version you have to mine, craft your own stuff. Plus you have health and baddies running around.

Thank you kindly.

Weird, that second map isn't loading for me.

Scroll up a bit and look to the right side of the big blank area. See that red splotch?

Yeah, the torch map is mostly transparent with little red pips. Load the full-size image and it's easier to see.

When you spawn in, if you look out to sea you will find a stone high dive with a glass platform out in the ocean. It is at maximum altitude, and is built off a stone shaft that leads all the way down to the bedrock where you will find a pool 4 tiles deep. That is the minimum number required to survive the fall.

Ugh, playing single player and I was exploring cave systems. I've been trying to find deep tunnels that may have a monster spawner and those chests. I've been doing a good job of building small pylons with torches to point back to my spawn. I was running low on torches so I had traveled a bit without the markers when I found this cavern. It had a DEEp hole in the middle and as I made my way down I could hear zombie noises. i explored around a dark corner and found one! A room with a monster spawner and some chests. I built a small gate and started killing them. There was a lot! I had no idea if I could destroy it or if I could block it off to get the chests. As I tried to get closer, I had to back up, got caught in a corner and died. Not a big deal but now I CAN'T find that cavern again. I built a small block wall near the entrance on sand but I just spent 2 hours running around.

Classic survival mode for a better feel for what everyone else is playing: http://minecraft.net/survivaltest/

Yeah, I typically build pyramids at interesting cave entrances, and put some torches on them so that they're more visible at night.

It's amazing how easy it is to get lost in an infinite world.

Saw this on Notch's blog.

I'm disappointed that nothing of our mountain destruction from the other night was posted.

The kids and I spent a good deal of time playing this over the weekend ... thanks to you folks for pushing the product. Bunch of pushers ...

Haven't played any multiplayer but the possibilities I can see in this thing are astounding.

How do you open a door?

How do you drop stuff without opening Inventory?

@Yeti -- Definitely. Right now it is just world building but next step is actual mobs in MP. Then after that he plays to release an Adventure mode. Where you can build a world and control what blocks can be broken and people can visit the map and fulfill the story.
