Alright -- first question: I bought this under my MS account on PC. I'm assuming that if I want to play it with her on a second computer in the same house, I'm going to have to buy a second copy and gift it to her MS account?
You are correct. Every player needs their own copy.
Unless you and she both have PC Games Pass... then its already included.
Sigh... I kinda miss the days of buy once and play on your own LAN with multiple computers. Though thinking about it, it might have just been Starcraft that allowed that.

Starcraft allowed you to play with two friends on Battle.net and only one of you needed to own the game (or was that WC2:BNE?).
Troubleshooting help, please?
My kids and I have been playing three-way Java Minecraft using the “Open to LAN” strategy. Devices are a desktop Windows 10 PC, a Macbook Air, and an older Windows Surface Pro (2?). Everything was working fine.
Then, last week, we replaced our old router with a Deco Mesh system, and now the Surface Pro can’t seem to find the a LAN-shared world. With my basic understanding of networks, I’ve troubleshot what I can - an initial problem seemed to be that he new network had defaulted to Public in the Windows network settings, so I changed that to Private.
I have to suspect the problem is with a setting on the Surface, since the other two computers can talk to each other as they have always been able to, and the Surface can’t find worlds broadcast from either one of the others. Any ideas where I should be looking? (I believe it’s running Win 10.)
Check and make sure they are on the same Network (i.e. not on a -Guest or 2.4ghz vs 5ghz or something like that).
Check the Setting -> Network -> Change Adapter Options -> Double Click Wi-Fi -> Properties -> Internet Protocol Version 4 and make sure they match up between the two Windows devices.
See if you can find the two Windows device in the admin page for the mesh router and see if anything stands out about them.

Thanks. The surface was on 2.4, the MacBook was on 5, and the Destop is wired by Ethernet. I updated the Surface to run on the 5, but that hasn’t resolved the problem.
For the IPv4 , the only property I could find was how to assign the IP address (both are set to choose flexibly) - is that what you mean?
Both devices are visible in the mesh admin app, and there’s nothing special about either one.
The network game continues to work well between the Desktop and the MacBook - it’s only the surface that’s causing a problem.
Make sure the network connection on the Surface for the 5GHz network is now also configured as "Private", so it'll attempt to do the network discovery thing.

Mainly you just want to make sure they are on the same subnet and gateway. If it is set to auto then I would open up a command prompt and run the command ipconfig. Auto generally uses 255.255.255.0 and your router address should be the gateway.
While in the command prompt you can also try running a ping command using the name of the other computer.local. So to ping my server computer I would use "ping Mercury.local" or to ping my laptop I would use "ping Stealth.local" Sometimes it works without the .local but usually if it works without that it will work with it as well.
I'm planning to upgrade my Vanilla server to 1.20.1 this weekend. I can attempt to keep the current world, or start from scratch. Any preferences on this from the community?
You need to restart to get new items to generate, no?
Has the terrain generation changed?
It should. Cherry trees on the surface and suspicious sand, etc.
Gotta go new map then! (I don't play regularly any more, so ignore me.)
RIP giant football stadium! (Not that I've been on in ages). New world might change that.

It's a very cool stadium. I believe I'm still there in the crowd (or my head is at least).
Alright, I've captured a backup copy of the giant football stadium 1.19 world, and we're now up and running with 1.20.1. I did a quick couple of world-regens to find something that looks interesting for all you non-skyblock freaks beautiful-overworld aficionados.
Same connection details as before:

Sorry, my local copy of the whitelist might not have had you in it. Can you please try again?

I did get in thanks. I wandered until I found a village. Its roughly at -848 / -686. I'll probably eventually take it over as I saw no signs claiming it or any signs it was found before.
Hey @billt721. To play on a second computer in the same house, you don't necessarily need to buy another copy. Minecraft offers a solution called "Minecraft for Windows 10," which is linked to your Microsoft account. As long as your daughter has her own Microsoft account, you can simply log in with her account on the second computer, and she should be able to access the game without an additional purchase.
By the way, if you're interested in enhancing your Minecraft experience with cool mods, I recommend checking out modbay.net. They have a wide selection of mods to explore and add exciting content to your game.
Hey hi!
It's been (checks notes... ) 5ish years? But I think I may need to be added back on the vanilla server. My minecraft username is "mechavulpix" (also I need to like... DM someone to change my forum username now too...)

Greetings! It looks like you should be whitelisted already. Make sure you're using Vanilla 1.20.1 and connecting to GAME-USEAST-01.MTXSERV.COM:27240

Fab! I must have copied it wrong before, but we're good now.
Is the Android Microsoft client compatible? Or do I need to be whitelisted?

Sorry Mixolyde, this is a Java server, which is compatible only with a Java client.
I can't wait to see all the stuff y'all build.
@merphle I think someone's fidgeting with your server.
Edit: While I figure out how to host images, the content of the screenshots I took is this:
[WEB] 103.108.231.68: This server is property of The Fifth Column @everyone - <Discord link>
[WEB] 103.216.220.26: This server is backdoored by BSB @everyone - <different Discord link>
First popped up while I was playing about a half hour ago, so about 1:45 a.m. MDT.
Thanks for the heads-up Muraii. It was just chat coming through from the dynmap - nobody had any access to the server itself. I've now disabled web chat via dynmap to prevent this.
