Minecraft

The goings on of Liquid Mantis's server I happened to film.

This is what happens when Chiggie's newly two-story wooden gazebo catches fire in a tragic fireplace christening gone entertaining. The whole thing needs to be scrapped out of spite. Sorry about the arrow, Arovin, we fixed it.

What happened to that mountain west of Pharacon's place. (remote detonation!)

and part 2.

I'm thinking the server needs a good tour video before it gets wiped, but now I think that would take at least an hour to really see everything. At the very least we need another cartographer shot. I think a daily time lapse of what things look like from cartographer would be too cool. Any way to automate it?

I don't normally like to toot my own horn but I sure am glad I bumped this thread so much a couple weeks back. A game this awesome (even in alpha (!)) deserves as mush recognition as it can get! Glad everyone is enjoying it! Can't wait for proper multiplayer with monsters etc.!

So, is it torches that keep monsters at bay in the dark? I built a pyramid on the water out of dirt and sand, only to have 2 creepers spawn in and blow a rather large hole in the side. (I'll post some pics later once the pyramid is completed to my specifications, and the holes repaired)

OK, you know what? F*ck the ocean.

I went down into the giant underwater cave we blasted out the other day, the one under the teeny tiny little divot in the ocean near my high dive. I found the highest point and dug upward until water started flowing in. Blocked the hole and chipped away one layer of about 120 blocks, which I then filled with TNT. I did the same thing on the seven layers beneath it. I figured, if anything could create a gigantic crater in the ocean where I could grow some trees, that would.

It made a BIG hole. A HUGE hole. One that filled up completely with water, without so much as a RIPPLE on the surface!

Seriously, ocean. F*ck you. I'm going to keep trying just in the hopes that every time I set off a pile of TNT it causes you severe pain.

I might try filling my high dive with TNT, or at least the bottom dozen or so levels. I think if I filled it to the rim it would damage D7's lovely cash register.

I played on some free build servers last night and had a blast.

Taidaan, torch light prevents spawns, deep shadows allow them. Torches light about 8 squares out. So make sure your interiors are well-lit and you won't have monster spawns.

Animals spawn on grass, so if you have grass in your fortress, you'll get the occasional pig or sheep wandering around inside it.

Spawning items on Liquid's server with "#s number" doesn't seem to be working right now ("#s toolkit" and "#s armor" still works).

Hang on, I'll check it out. I updated that mod earlier.

[Edit] Fixed now. The mod changed to defaulting to using a whitelist for summoning rather than a blacklist.

Holy crap! So that's what it turned into last night. Awesome!

Bravo sir! That looks awesome. And here I just labeled Lobster's diving board.

Also, who build the Yoshi in the forest?

Awesome! Nice work Anodyne. I needed a little more GF in my life.

My latest.

Nice work Anodyne! I was wondering what you were up to... And it's like right in front of the spawn point so nobody can miss it.

First noticeably huge thing I saw when I finally got in the game. It made my ambitions feel lame-o. Alas.

That is some FINE work, Anodyne! And suddenly, my property values skyrocket.

How can I find you guys on here? Do i need to purchase the game first? I have just been clicking on open servers after logging in and hitting multiplayer. I don't see any of this kind of cool stuff though, or monsters.

About where is that rip in the space-time continuum from the spawn area? I found it earlier and haven't been able to since. I'm thinking if I can find a nice peak with a view of both that madness and the ocean, I have a spot to set up camp. My fantasized self-image is that of a loser supervillain, and what better place for a villainous lair than the spot of the greatest tragedy the world has ever seen?

Yeah, you need to buy the game. Then just click "Multiplayer" and enter the server address for LiquidMantis' server.

NOTE: Make sure you're registered with the username you want to use before you buy the game, because you can't change it later. I bought a second copy of the game for this reason.

Also this is the "survival" mode, not the classic.

You people are evil and must be destroyed. Let me dip a toe in using the singleplayer, and I'll be in.

So...I might not have accomplished much at work the last two days.

How much exploring do you generally have to do to find one of the really deep caves? I'm working near my spawn area in two separate bases, and have gone far enough to have about a 7MB file, but most of the caves I've found are hardly worthy of the moniker. I've only found one truly deep cave. (It was a doozy, though. I spent multiple hours in it, and came out with three stacks of redstone, 20 gold, 5 diamond, and a great many iron ores.) I tried my hand at strip mining a bit but got bored with it very quickly; I much prefer exploring natural caves. Have I just gotten unlucky, or is this a pretty average layout?

Probably average. The maps are just so immense.

Need SMP w/ mobs please.

You people are evil and do not match the carpet.

I bought the game and will be joining you on the server late this evening Pacific time.

I am going to purchase it now, i hope to find u all later.

Joining the Minecraft bandwagon myself. Too much cool stuff going on in this thread for me not to jump in.

I tried to find my second base again using the map generated from cartograph. That managed to get me well and truly lost. Right before nightfall though, I managed to find one of my obelisks, which I followed to the correct site. I did some mining there and got the stuff together for my return trip. Once again, I fired up cartograph and figured I'd follow the directions a bit better.

Once again, it got me well and truly lost. I managed to get to the coast though, and built a boat and took off in what I thought should be the correct direction. I took off in that direction most of the night, but was unable to find my coastline base. So I doubled back and took off in the opposite direction. for the whole day and into the night. None of the terrain looked familiar. I fired up Cartograph again and figured out that I was on the opposite side of the continent and on a completely different ocean. I had managed to add about 150% to my map.

I couldn't find where I was exactly though, so I constructed landmarks I could spot from the sky. The first was an arrow pointing north. I fired up Cartograph again and realized I was a long way from home. I took off in what I thought was the right direction and put up another one. To my surprise, I ended up in a completely wrong direction. Things were getting out of hand, so I started putting up signs based on letters. The first was a T. Once again, I turned out going in the wrong direction again. The next one was a U. Same deal. Then a V. Again. Then a W. Again. X. Same. Y. Same. When I got to Z, however, I noticed something interesting. The Z was backward.

Yeah. For some reason, Cartograph was rendering the image rotated 90degrees and inverted. Once I figured that out, it was pretty easy to figure out what I was doing wrong and getting home was easy. All it took was seven game days, 6 boats, 60 stone, and nearly getting killed by just about all the hostile mobs on the planet.

I don't get along with water.

After failing to blast a crater in the ocean I took my trade to land. It's a lot easier to blast out a big hole in the ground with satisfying results. Druidpeak came by for a look as I worked and set up a pretty little waterfall as a ways to safely get down. This is important.

I thought nothing of the waterfall since I'd planned to set up a bunch anyway, so I kept working as normal and finally set off my massive pile of TNT. Mind you this was the second blast, in the basin of a crater made from the first blast. The explosion went well. It carved out a very nice open cavern with lots of interesting geography. Perfect place to make a garden.

...Except for that one waterfall. That waterfall that somehow propagated and spread out more broadly than any waterfall I've ever seen, MID-AIR, and somehow generated a free-standing COLUMN of water. I don't blame Druidpeak for this. He couldn't have known it would do that and I certainly didn't.

I'm in favor of wiping the server when the new patch comes out if only to obliterate my repeated and thorough failures. Though I hope that once they fix the inventory stuff, LM still lets us spawn in TNT, water and lava. Not only is it a lot of fun to blow stuff up but you can make some really beautiful geography that would otherwise take ages to dig out.
