Arma 2 Catch All

I finished the first several tutorials so I am in. I havent picked up a TRACK IR yet since I have been on vacation, but since I pin on Commander tomorrow - I think I will treat myself.

Congratulations man! Very nice work.

Here are some good tips for improving ArmA 2 performance.

I have the game, but am god awful at it. I just ordered Track IR. Anyone who wants to drastically up the difficulty of their games, feel free to invite me.

I'm working on getting the server setup with some co-op missions. If anybody finds some they like, please forward the info to me via PM. Also, I am having difficulty figuring out the dedicated server config settings to add custom missions to the rotation. It does not seem to be as simple as it is for locallly hosted games. I fiddled with it over the weekend but had no success. If somebody spots some info on this please send me an IM. I've dug around the official forums and wikis but they have not been much help.

My new trackir5 will be here tomorrow. My old Track IR broke a year ago during a move. ArmA 2 gave me a good excuse to upgrade.

Thanks Jake.

Domination is a very good coop mod that sets multiple objectives (radio tower for AI reinforcements, arty spotters) for securing cities and has a point system for ranking up and allowing the play more access to vehicles and weapons as they rank up. All the parameters are customizable (you can take away rank requirements for vehicle/weapon access for example).

I think this would be a great option for the GWJ server because it is persistent until a server reset and people can come and go as they please with the AI filling in.

I'll look around and see if I can't find out where to pick this mod up if folks are interested.

I always miss these games. Someone drop me a line man!

Looks good to me!

If anyone is feeling rich, here is a nice demo of how Track IR works with Arma II.

I don't really get it. Can't you look and move in different directions without this thing? I see how you can aim and look in different directions, but does this ever help much? It seems like most games just let you walk sideways as fast as you'd walk forward. It may look a little weird, but you can still look and walk in different directions.

You can't strafe as fast as you can run in arma2. Trackir makes a big difference.

So basically Arma created a problem that an expensive peripheral fixes. They could always adjust the movement speed so its the same running sideways as forwards just like every other game.

My computer couldn't even run this game, but I was intrigued by all the people on steam playing and I didn't know what it was. I watched a few videos and this TrackIR was one of them. It confused me.

Try running sideways while looking straight ahead. Try strafing as fast as you run. Arma didn't create a problem, that's part of the design of the game. It's like saying Flight Simulator has a problem because you can't barrel roll with a trigger. The point of Arma is that it isn't just like every other shooter.

Like Certis said, you don't need the peripheral, you can use the alt key.

Thinking of picking this up this afternoon. Jez, I'll never get through my pile of shame!

We played that mission tonight a few times. Had 8 of us at the high point it was really a fun time.

Big thanks to you all for playing it was a blast!

Awesome night of 7 and 8 player co-op. That map wired got was fantastic and it hold up to 12 people.

Here is the break down of that co op map.

1) Set up an ambush for the convoy
2) Steal the fuel truck from that convoy unharmed
3)Take the fuel truck to the Hind and Mi-8 and fill them up
4) Land the choppers on the air craft carrier.

A very satisfying mission and takes a lot of team work!

Wish I could have been there! I'm on babysitting duty for the nephew tonight. Damn responsibilities.

We will play it again!
I have found a few I would love to give a shot

But that revive system from the one we did tonight was so clutch.

I am impressed how relatively smooth the game handled 8 people on a listen server.

Aw C'MON!

Yeah, that was a great game all around. I was so pumped after we quit that I loaded up the campaign, which was a total letdown after the co-op action. I'll probably not be going back to it at all, the AI team mates are just annoying to deal with compared to actual team work.

I played the Demo yesterday an am quite impressed. But I do have a few questions for those having the full version.

Is there a coop mod where it is possible to respawn or at least inhabit a AI team member? I always get killed the fastest in any coop game I play, and sitting there waiting for the rest of the match is just no fun.

Did any of you had a successful and fun team deathmatch like game? Maybe somthing with capture the flag or the BF style capture points? I did some team deathmatch yesterday with added AI and it wasn't that much fun. The 2 bases were a long way from eachother and there was hardly any soul to be seen untill there came 3 tanks rolling over the hill to spawn camp us.

Pred link me your steam profile. I will make sure you get an invite tonight. Or just be in vent around 8 or 9 cst we will get rolling around then.

I was in on the game last night and had a great time. Definitely a lot to learn on this one but as always the GWJ community is very noob friendly and put up with my many questions;

'how do you bring up the compass?'
'how do you bring up the map?'
'did that cow just kill me?'

Looking forward to playing again.

I'm in too; got the game last night. Friend me up!

I'll probably be online with a buddy at some point tonight. Might be kinda late though. I'll pop into Vent later and see if anyone is around when I get home.

Koning most co-op maps have a revive or respawn script in place so that you don't sit out the whole game. That's never been an issue for me even in Arma 1. Haven't tried TDM yet, as all the populated low-ping servers are co-op.

I've been time and time again impressed by the AI. I'm so used to them just standing around from ArmA 1 that when I shot one and he crawled to a medic tent, healed himself and returned fire I was floored.

Their flanking tactics also got us in trouble a few times.

Great game last night - sorry for my Hind follies - that was the weirdest thing ever. That and the chicken bullet sponge. By the way cows on a runway do provide cover

Seeing that hind lift 3 feet off the ground take off sideways down the runway like a bullet was amazingly awesome.

Is anyone have major technical issues with this?

I had a bunch of bugs in the boot camp training but since then it has been really solid.
The game is really performing better then the demo for me.

The reason I ask is how fubared arma 1 was at launch I was expecting much worse.

Yeah if this launch was as bad as ARMA's I wouldn't have been pushing it so hard. It's actually fairly solid. My framerate isn't consistently where I want it, but it's only going to get more optimized with time and community mods.

Oh after you all went to bed I found us a new coop operation to play tonight.

Supports 12 people and runs smooth I played it for a few hours with some ai buddies to test it out.

See this what I do for you all!

Who is in tonight?

GOOD LORD! CURSED I AM!

I'm completely out of money thanks to redecorating and now my car's timing belt decides to give up the ghost! This means no fireworks for the 4th and no new games.. I'm thinking of sneaking it in there.. arrrrggggg!!!

I should hopefully be on tonight.

Do what I do, let the wife be the responsible one. I just spend and hope it all works out, she has to do all the work

I'll be up for it, ArmA II is my current gaming drug of choice.

My wife will turn violent then... it is not a pretty sight.

I've been out of town since Sunday, so I'm definitely itching for some ArmaII tonight. Count me in and feel free to friend me on steam. ID is my sig.

I've got D&D tonight, but I'll pop on if we wrap up in decent time.
