Arma 2 Catch All

Besides co-op, how is the multiplayer?

Yeah I want this game badly now, stupid decorating the house bill!!!

But last night was fun, but 6 guys vs 60 guys with APC and UAZ backup = not cool. Our games went like this, we would argue over which way to go, then we would run over to a spot and then go OMG tons of soldiers. Then we would fire and they would all turn around and start running at us..

Which then led to the crow in the face syndrome, CAH CAH! CAH CAH!

To reply to trowan, build capture online is pretty fun. DM is a joke as you spawn and run like hell to a corner then camp out. I have not played seize objective.

Is anyone else seeing some serious mouse lag with the demo? It was really bad when I first started, so I turned down my video settings pretty far and it's still there, but a bit less obvious. Still, I'm finding it very jarring. Far worse than anything I've seen in a while.

Edit: Turned off FSAA and it's not nearly as bad. Anyone know if it's possible to display FPS?

Yeah, I am having a really hard time adjusting to the mouse lag. I used FRAPS to check my framerate which stayed at about 45 & dropped slightly below 30 in heavy action. There are a couple posts in the official forums regarding this problem that I am following.

So far the demo co-op reminds me of the Ghost Recon co-op scenarios allot. Everything from the enemy AI, animations, and guns give me a feeling of deja vu. I will add the disclaimer that I have never plaid an ARMA game before.

Be warned that the game has some serious bugs. It hard locked my (until now) rock solid computer and gave my friend a BSOD and a CTD. Also, how has the in game chat worked for others? Either nobody had mics or it is buggy too. I just ended up using steam chat with my friend.

We ended up changing the difficulty to panzy (recruit) and were able to win quite a few rounds. The AI does some real dumb stuff on recruit but it helped ease us into the game.

I only had time for some single player in the demo yesterday, one thing I was trying to do was remapping my keys. I use the right mouse button for the forward movement in games (yes, I realize I'm a freak, move on), I set it in the control options but it never registered in the game - is there something else I need to do? Also, can I see/edit the key bindings all at once, or do I have to go screen by screen (which is a pain)?

...

Damn it.

That was such a great to with Co-op last night guys. The world feels really open and really huge. It seems that there are so many different scenarios we can put ourselves into so replay value is pretty high.

Playing six player Co-op was awesome. You just don't get to do that very often. Even though we got crushed so many times I still had a blast.

This demo is HUGE. I tip my hat to Bohemia for making such great demo. Most developers lock you into single player or multi, so it is a great fan service and they definitely have my buy this weekend.

I was also extremely shocked that I did not run into any bugs whatsoever! I am on Windows 7 and don't have any problems. The mouse lag is really annoying and it's hard to be accurate with it so I hope they fix that soon.

Oh and the voice overs are hilariously bad.

That's my chopped up brain dump of my impressions.

Jake, I bow down to you. You just sold me this game twice over. I really hope we get regulars for this.

I had a similar issue with key bindings, but sort of resolved itself. I think my issue was even though I hit apply on the key bindings tab and just hit esc on the main screen which did not save my settings.

By the way, how did you develop your right mouse=forward habit?

The wife said I can buy this if I pay for it tonight at poker. So lets hope the cards fall.

Sounds like an extra 30 minutes of back rub, and then you better have tongue stamina while... oohhhhh poker... the card game...

I've been doing it since the shareware version of Doom, I never used WASD. I feel I should start a support group for it.

Pre-ordered. I've never even heard of this game before, so let's see how it goes.

I would love, love, love to play this, but my singlecore processor won't have it.

It seems like tac sims are going the way of flight sims. I was a big flight simmer back in the day, and you always needed an insane PC to run these things.

I don't remember Doom having mouse support. I also don't remember more then two mouse buttons back then!!! Lies I tell you.. Lies!

Unfortunately is does not seem like the mouse lag will get fixed. It was there in ARMA, people complained and it's still in ARMA II. It seems people are saying that it is supposed to simulate weapon weight but it just feel like mouse lag to me.

Oddly enough, that sounds about right. I know everyone else keeps calling it mouse lag, but it doesn't feel like that to me. It feels more like mouse acceleration and momentum. So if they are trying to simulate weapon weight, they did a great job.

Though it is still really annoying!

Bah, that's bullsh*t. I'd maybe accept it if the amount of mouse lag didn't vary as I changed my video settings. Someone says "There's nothing you can do, except try to keep your FPS 100+ to get a control over your weapon." There's no good reason you should need a 100+ fps just to get decent UI response. That's just bad coding.

The mouse acceleration/momentum/inertia is also noticeable and that I can deal with. However, it's a separate issue from how quickly the game reacts to me even moving my mouse. It's the kind of thing I've seen often in console ports, so I'm surprised to see it so bad in a straight PC game.

I'll try running through the training with the vid settings all turned low. The little bit I've tried suggest it'll be bearable.

Mine isn't as severe as this. My framerate fluctuates between 45-30. But the mouse lag does exist.

Here is a video showing perfectly what it's doing:

Mine was close to being as bad in the beginning of that video.

That video seems more like a demo of the mouse inertia than the mouse lag I was seeing. EvilDead's video was more like the mouse lag I saw.

For those at home right now try this out. I'm curious if it works:

In the nvidia control look for
"Maximum pre-rendered frames".
Set this always to "1" see if it's better.

Yeah, I'll try that out when I get home.

Please report back.

After last night's fiasco with AA3, perhaps the Arma2 demo will suffice?

There is a new patch out 1.02.58134

This is what I want to see if steam gets update at the same time or not.

For those who pre-ordered on Steam, it's available now.

Yup, my download didn't start automatically, I had to click on the icon first.

So guess how my computer has decided to celebrate the release of this one?

*drumroll*

The graphics card died last night! Couldn't have been better timing. Looks like it'll be a little while before I can join in.
