Arma 2 Catch All

Okay, I've got 2 questions and since I'm unfamiliar with vanilla Arma2, I don't know if the first one is specific to one of the mods (CBA, ACE, ASR, TPWC, LOST) or the base game.

1. Sometimes when I engage a vehicle like an APC, I cripple it rather than destroying it. I have 1 engineer left and I can tell him to repair, but he doesn't repair it all the way to green. It's drivable, but out of fuel. Attempts to siphon fuel into the repaired vehicle will put in a small amount that disappears completely as soon as I start the engine and start to move. Is there something I'm missing? Is part of the damage a fuel leak that it's impossible for my engineer to fix? Because I really really want a BTR APC.

2. How do I assign myself a custom waypoint on the map that will show up in my HUD?

1.) Yeah, hole in the fuel tank. Not sure how that can be fixed. Are there repair trucks in Lost? Edit: If there are, drive the repair truck close, go in as pilot and use the command menu to repair.

2.) Go to the map, hold down 'shift' and click a location on the map.

I haven't found a repair truck, if there are any. I've only been to podunk towns though, so who knows?

Thanks for the shift-click, very useful.

I've been using Six Updater to grab the mods I've been using, but then switching to Arma 2 Launcher to actually manage them once they are downloaded since it is much cleaner to work with.

Figured out my issues, I needed to be loading all three CBA files, I was only loading the CBA_OA file.

In LOST, is it possible to get your troops to spread out and do the "search house" action? It seems weird that the commander has to do it all himself, and it's pretty tedious.

Edit: Looks like it's something he's exploring for a future update.

So am I missing the command in Lost to have a AI heli pilot go to a way point and land? I downloaded the Panthera map and haven't found a working vehicle yet, but I have found an Apache, Blackhawk and whatever the Marine Huey is called. I've only got my guy and 2 POWs that I rescued and I can get the AI pilot to land if I leave the other AI player on the ground and tell the AI pilot to fly to a spot near the ground pounder and then telling him to mount the heli. The AI pilot will hover close enough to the ground that I can issue a disembark message to the pilot and he will jump out from a foot off the ground.

I finally found the CTRL+SPACE commands to issue to the other troops under my command, but not in my squad.

And thanks for the recommendation for the ASR_AI, I'm digging that now that it is working.

The only ways I've found are to do what you've said: tell someone to get on the heli, or tell the pilot to get out.

The sun is low in the sky and I worry as my first night approaches. I'm certain I have enough NV goggles for all my men, but I don't know what to expect once it's dark. My convoy continues to grow. I now have a fuel truck to keep them all moving. A hind helicopter, BTR APC, Vodnik APC with cannon, Vodnik with 2 mounted machine guns, med account APC, humvees with grenade launcher, fuel truck, and the kamaz truck that holds the cache, which I drive. The only problem I have now is that my awesome combat vehicles are running out of ammo. I don't know if there are rearming trucks in LOST but I sure hope so.

Spoiler:

There are.

I still haven't found a repair truck, though I have found a repair station. Doesn't do much good if you can't move the damaged vehicle.

So, Arma 2 Coop tonight, anyone? I'll be able to play around 8:00 pm EST, hanging out in a Vent channel (probably DayZ). If anyone wants to play, just let me know.

I've moved through infamous Elektro, generally unscathed, but shorter on vehicle ammo.

I might be down.

I'll be in the GWJ Mud Movers vent channel, and if I"m on I'll make a Steam event.

I have a tank!

It took a lot of tries, but I was ADAMANT that I was going to capture this tank, the first one I've yet seen. It took about a dozen tries to hit it with an RPG-7 without completely destroying it. But then once I got the repair guy there, it turned out the fuel tank was hit and he wouldn't/couldn't fix that. (That's the 2nd pic.)

So a few more tries. Then I did it many more times, and a few of those failed because the motherf*cking helicopter that brought me my engineer crashed on the way back. But the one that worked, the enemy abandoned it because both the turret and gun were red-lined. No fuel damage, no wheel damage, no engine damage.

Tkyl had some fun co-op last night.

Found a really cool mission where you paradrop from a chopper and have to destroy SCUD sites. We couldn't even get close to the scuds thanks to lots of baddies. This map would be great with a big group of Goodjers.

So another lost question. I've found a Chinook, didn't someone say you can carry vehicles underneath them? How is that done?

I wasn't expecting you to actually find a Chinook.

I believe the sling functionality comes from ACE - it's possible to run ACE with Lost - and it requires you to a) have a "sling rope" and b) have a pilot capable of hovering low enough that you can access the helicopter's cargo bay from the ground.

Then you and your rope go to the vehicle you want to sling and use the ACE interaction menu to "Attach Slingrope." Then you turn around to the hovering chopper and use the ACE interaction menu to "Hook Slingrope" to the 'copter.

Then you can fly wherever you want and from inside the helicopter select "release load" to drop your vehicle.

I'm not sure about max weights, but on ArmA I've been in a Chinook lifting a Warrior AFV and this weekend I was part of a team in Fallujah that was lifted with our Humvee to our next objective by a UH-1Y Venom.

I found about 6 new troops while searching a town, so I settled down at the cache to assign them some equipment, when suddenly all my guys go berserk. I look around and see people shooting at the sky, and I see....

First time I've seen an airdrop in this game. None of the paratroopers even reached the ground alive.

I've finally got too many troops for 1 group, so I broke out most of my assault vehicles into their own HC group. Support vehicles and the Hind stay with me, along with the ground troops who accompany me on my searches of towns and enemy bases after the assault HC sweeps through. Found a repair vehicle, but no rearming vehicle yet.

Just bought a new motherboard and CPU. Damn this game and its sweet, sweet, shooty goodness.

Seriously, though, I'm running missions from Planned Assault + ACE 2 + ASR AI (latest beta) + TPWC AI Suppression (latest beta) + TPW LoS and the game is just so damn much fun. I can play the same mission over and over, and each time it's a little different. In my last game on Utes, the enemies actually ran behind a hill out of sight to our left, and then flanked us from the rear. It was a rare gaming moment where I was smiling while getting shot at.

In another game, my AI commander and squad actually moved along a tree line to stay in cover as we progressed toward our objective, even though the actual waypoints had us running parallel to the trees. We then all stayed in the trees as we engaged the enemy.

And of course the Lost mod is still awesome, but the only map I can really play it on is Takistan because of performance issues on other maps.

This game definitely has legs. At the same time, I can't wait to get my grubby hands on Arma 3.

Anyone playing LOST suddenly find themselves hit by a silenced sniper bullet while standing still? And no sniper is ever found? And none of your troops even notice?

I can't figure out if it's some feature of LOST or if there actually is a super-sneaky sniper with a silenced rifle out there.

If you let the game idle for a bit after you are killed it should jump to show the unit that killed you.

I'll have to give that a try. Does the helo doing the lifting have to be in the air to do the connection? If I let the AI pilot the helo they would be to high to access the gear screen. Just wondering if I could drive the vehicle I need up close enough to the Chinook that I could do the interactions and then jump in the helo and fly off.

Last night I ran a special forces raid of an airport on the map I am playing and stole a Hind. As I was E&E out of town and up into the hills I spotted a Striker that I will need to grab eventually, but the highlight is finding a M1-A1 I promptly landed the hind and jumped ship. Had just enough gas to get back to my mobile fuel and ammo truck.

Tonight we start our offensive on the city.

This looks like a neat MP mission: Crooks.

One player (CIV) is a serial killer dressed as a civilian and his only goal is to kill 10 prostitutes (marked on map) in towns and villages. Majority of players are Cops (WEST) lead by Police Chief (in a nice suit, btw) and they are located in Berezino HQ. Their goal is to find the serial killer. They need to patrol the towns and respond to calls that dispatcher from HQ makes. Dispatcher (played as AI) recieves tips from civilians (AI). Third side are two criminals (EAST) dressed as civilians. They two have various tasks planned and they can complete them in random order. Their only goal is to create chaos and to make Cops' job harder. For each completed task they recieve new better equipment at their home. Their home town is independent and protected by Russian Army (AI) and Cops are not allowed to enter that zone or Russians would kick their asses with much superior power.
For every dead prostitute Cops recieve better equipment, ranging from assault rifles to scout helicopters and armored vehicles.

AI takes care of other stuff around the map: Arms Dealers hate cops but they will usually give out weapons and ammo to criminals or killer. Army guards their storage depot. Police HQ in Berezino is also guarded by AI guards armed with MP5s and if they suffer casualties they will call Army for backup to help defend the HQ. In case of injury, person can be moved to one of three hospitals in the area, but suspicious persons (bullet wounds) are usually reported to police.

Serial Killer can arm with personal weapon of choice/equipment and then travel to one of three locations from where he will begin his quest. When he kills the last prostitute he wins. If cops mortally wound him in the chase or ambush he is transfered to Jail in Berezino. Police Chief then needs to visit Evidence Room from where he sends case to Judge. Judge then assembles Jury and they decide. Penalty for killing one or more people in South Zagoria is execution in front of a wall by firing squad (duty of Police). If the Jury finds the suspect guilty he is moved to the firing wall and Cops win the game after one minute passes. If serial killer didn't (yet) kill any prostitutes jury finds him not guilty and suspect gets released (transferred back home). Two criminals can merely observe the whole deal or help out killer in his quest. They can also work with police by capturing the killer and become heroes and repay for their sins from the past. What will you do? Who will outsmart who? Join the game of Crooks!

I'm in.

Yeah that does sound fun. I'd be game.

Redhwk wrote:

same i downloaded it, but not had a chance yet to try it.

Sigh. My troops all have the IQs of mangos. Lost 2 guys because they walked in front of moving vehicles. 4 others were injured.

I've finally found an ammo truck! So this means I can reload all my vehicles. And finally use that tank I found. Right? No, because the HC group I assigned it to seems to have... lost it? I don't know whether they abandoned it or if it was destroyed. Those jerks.

At least there's an empty Hind and maybe an empty APC or two that I can now make use of.

But to be honest, the problem I'm having now is finding enemies to even fight.

About 50% complete on my Zaragabad. Just found an Apache as well as 2nd Fuel and Ammunition trucks and finally found a repair vehicle, all within about 400m of each other at the other end of the airstrip I stole a Hind from.

Now my fleet of vehicles includes the following:

Helos
Huey
Chinook
Hind
Apache
(there is one more recoverable Hind and two recoverable Mi-8s on the map for the taking)

Vehicles
HMMV
HMMV w/TOW
Ural Fuel
MVTR Fuel
MVTR Ammo
Utility Truck Fuel
MVTR Repair
M1-A1
Stryker ICV w/M2
BMP-3

I was hoping that another Brit APC that was taking out early on in the game would have been recoverable but no such luck.

Found that I can load my cache to my Stryker, so that is mobile despite not finding a dedicated truck for it yet.

Just rescued a special forces group 6-7 delta soldiers! going to make them my primary squad mates and try to figure out how to manage the squads via the commanding mode to move my supply trucks around as well as my 2nd and 3rd squads made up of other troops.

Anyone know of a wiki or post that has some good knowledge in getting squads shipshape?

Nice. I recently found an Apache that was just sitting in a field. In the middle of nowhere!

I had to go rescue my 2nd HC group because, even though I assigned them a fuel truck, two of their APCs and their Hind had run out of fuel. Clearly my hope of an autonomous HC group is not going to work.

Why do my pilots insist on flying so low? Why does my f*cking Apache keep crashing into trees?!
