Watch this video.

This might end up being one of the most improved sequels ever if that demonstration is anything to go by.

Oh and here's the official trailer.

The first one was silly fun. I'm really looking forward to this one, looks awesome. Watching the video looks like watching the same game with an almost entirely new palette. Maybe because they don't have to worry about making XBox or PS2 versions?

Ah, that looks FUN!

I just love, love these sandbox games that bring such a specific focus in it's gameplay mechanics.
It's becoming like it's own genre, doesn't it? No angsty story stuff, just the total joy of interactive entertainment. Power fantasy at it's best. This, crackdown, mercenaries, the new red faction, hulk: ultimate destruction, etc.

Who would've thought Spiderman 2, a movie licenced game, would open up this new way to have so much fun?

As long as it still lets me grab onto the tail of an airplane while it's in the air and hitch a ride, I'm there.

Despite its many (MANY!) flaws, the first game is among my favorite open world experiences ever, so I'm very pleased to see the sequel shaping up so well. At least from that demo, they seem to know what was good about the first one, and are simply focusing on adding variety and nuance where it was missing before.

Sold.

I love how these open world games are finally coming into their own. This latest slew of games like Red Faction and InFamous are offering great, distinct experiences. Upcoming games like prototype and Mafia 2 seem like they will too.

That clip was amazing. I want to play that.

Loved the first, it's great to see they're going bigger and better with the second. Count me in!

Wow, that looked really impressive.

There's appears to be a ton of mobility options (parachute, grapple gun, car surfing, etc.), and with it comes a welcome variety in gameplay tactics.

The graphics looked pretty darn gorgeous too.

Yup, the days of describing these games as a "GTA clone" are over.

It's quite reasonable to say that there's two type of sandbox games. The sort that's like a playground for players and explores the impossible and then there's the open world games that are all about creating an alternate possible, a simulation of another world that plays around with the player.

Please tell me that wasn't a QTE I saw when he tried to hijack the Hummer.

Heh, remember about 15 years ago when every new FPS released was dubbed a "Doom clone"?

This needs to be a very different game from the first one.

The first one had some good ideas at heart, but it's fubar'd in so many ways. It feels like a rush-job, 1st-wave-of-a-generation title, which is exactly what it was. It was buggy as hell, with a list of problems as long as my arm.

If they can take the core 'fun' aspects of it, and build those in a game with the quality I expect today, then it'll be great. Much tightening of the design is required.

I'm hoping the silly humor from Just Cause (1) is preserved, although now you're chasing the guy who had lots of the humorous stuff.

Wowwie. So under my radar it didn't exist, but that looks fun! He seems quite invincible which may be a function of the demo environment, but feels off.

Choice quote from Kotaku.

"I saw plenty of games this past week. Some good. Some bad. Some worse. But only one game could be the best-looking thing I saw all week. And that game was Just Cause 2."

*snip*

"As for why I think it was the best thing I saw all week...well, since E3 isn't the place for deep and meaningful engagements with games, you can only really judge them on which game put the biggest smile on your face after 15-30 minutes with it. And Just Cause 2 put the biggest smile on my face. Simple as that."

I love it when a game really surprises me. The E3 footage of Just Cause 2 did just that. I knew the game was in development...I just didn't care. This is, until I saw the latest footage.

For E3, but JC2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction both did just that.

New trailer out of the GamesCon today. Still looks freaking awesome.

I enjoyed the first one and am looking forward to this too.

Looks good so far. Never played 1, what is the plot about?

I got the original in my GameFly Q. Given GameFly I'll most likely be playing it a couple months after 2 has come out. Looks fun.

I had the original from Gamefly after liking the demo, but I got bored with it after about two hours. It looked fairly good, it ran smoothly, but it always felt a little bit, well.. janky I guess. Something just didn't feel right with the gameplay. It didn't bother me at first, but the longer I played the less and less interested I was in playing any more.

I guess what I'm getting at is that I'll need a demo that demonstrates a lot more refinement than the first game had.

WANT NOW.

The redundancy in play got a little redundant. Still, jacking the huge jet and flying it around was awesome.

A couple of hours is where the first one kicked in for me. I mistakenly treated it as a tropical GTA clone, when it was more of a base-jump simulator The only other feeling of kick-assedness from high up would come a year or so later with Crackdown, climbing the agency tower.

I enjoyed going through the jungles on a motorcycle. Dodging between trees at top speed is just ridiculously fun.

Unfortunately, I was playing the Xbox 1 version and hit a game-ending bug. Hope this one will be a bit more solid.

Another big 10 minute gameplay demo video has been released. This game looks like everything Mercenaries 2 should have been, only thing it's missing is co-op.

So apparently the grappling hook in this game can be used to tie two things together now. Leading to this awesomeness:

I really enjoyed the first game despite how repetitive the mission structure could be. Definitely looking forward to the sequel.

New vehicle stunt video up on GameTrailers. There's going to be a lot more variety than the first game, from snow-covered mountains to deserts, and over 100 (!) genuinely different vehicles.

You have to admire the lunacy of allowing the player to jump onto a passenger jet in midair, or tether enemies to their own vehicle so they're dragged behind it. If they can enable you to do all that without the control system becoming unwieldy, this could be a Game of the Year contender.

The demo of the first game was awesome, let alone the game. Can't wait for this one, although it releases 3 days before PAX East.
