GWJ forum inserts HTML tags when I type capital letters...

This has been bugging me for a while. Sometimes, but not all the time, when I'm typing a post on GWJ, if I type a captial I or B, I'll get the HTML tag [i] or [b] auto-inserted before the letter. The autoinsertion is clever enough to alternate between and tags, but it makes typing a post using personal pronouns a pain in the ass.

I'm using IE6 SP2 (work machine - not through choice). It doesn't happen on any other forum or web page, just GWJ. And some posts it does and some it doesn't. I haven't been able to characterise it.

Any ideas on how to fix it? Other than switching to a better browser

Tap CTRL a couple of times to remind it that you're not holding it.

This.

It's not just IE6. Does it to me in Firefox as well.

Yeah, it's not your browser, it's Drupal.

I've commented exactly where the bug is before but it's not getting fixed. It's the code in this file that is erroneously trying to manually track the status of shift and ctrl, which then gets out of sync, instead of reading their state from the key event.

It's not browser specific, so tapping ctrl is the way to go when it happens.

Cool - I'm happy with a workaround. Thanks

Yeah. I can recall that we had several threads about it already and that you've posted about this once. It's strange no one decided to do something with it.

Actually I'd say it's not strange at all that it's gone unfixed. Nobody gets paid to work on the site, and if you look at the title of the site, most of them have other things to think about a little higher on their priority list

Given that most of the site is coded by as few people as it is, I'd say it's remarkable that it handles everything as well as it does.
