Homefront - Catch all

The few I've played have been pretty small compared to Battlefield, even Bad Company.

Whole lot of connection issues tonight on XBL. I'll try again tomorrow.

The maps aren't as big as BFBC2's, but they're certainly not MW's claustrophobic boxes. Most of the maps I was playing were reasonably sized with plenty of destroyed building and what not to move around in and they were large enough to swallow up the 32 players. As set pieces to fight in, you can't go wrong with a wrecked subdivision or a Hooters.

I was really skeptical of the Battle Point system before playing, but I've come around to it. There are plenty of different "perks" people can buy with their purchase slots, so not everyone is rolling around with an RPG.

I do like the Battle Commander putting bounties on people with kill streaks. It's a nice twist.

Yeah, typical FPS launch issues. I had my first hard lock as well. And we had trouble getting into games, and staying in games between rounds.

Not sure if that's console, PC, or both.

Not sure I'd say that quite yet. It's somewhat closer to CoD to me than BFBC2, at least on console. And some very laggy games.

I'm not writing it off, but I feel it will still be a diversion to BFBC2 for me over the long term.

BTW, this game has about the worst grenade throwing animation that I can remember.

P.S. Has anyone managed to get FRAPS working? I wanted to take a screenshot of the amusingly low-polygon tomatoes on the plant in the player's room, but couldn't seem to get it to work.

Launch it through Steam and use their new screenshot function?

Wow! A lot of options for PC gamers! It's nice to see they let you controll so much including FOV

Here are my Screens of the option menu

Everything except options to hold crouch and zoom rather than toggle. Come on!

There is a toggle ADS option, but I didn't see a toggle crouch option.

Harrumph!

I enjoy shooters and universally buy and play them for the single-player campaign alone.

This guy needs a monocle.

I NEED A MONOCLE! That is totally me. If I could pay $10 less and get games with no multiplayer component I'd do it in a heartbeat. IN A HEARTBEAT, I TEL... Ooooh! my back. Need my pills.

I'm about 30 minutes into the single player, and just made it to White Castle. Hooray, posters!! Those two bossy, annoying folks that came to my rescue are yammering about providing cover fire, but I'm wandering around reading the posters. YES! POSTERS! A new flavor of burger called the 'chicken greasy', heh heh.

Enjoying it so far!

If you look out of a window for a while, you'll see kneepads swirling around in the air. I wonder what that's supposed to signify? How the U.S.A. has been 'brought to her knees' by the invasion, and even the balm of a padded cushion for our humbled knees is swirling in the ether just out of reach?
Or is that supposed to be a piece of paper? Wheels within wheels my friends. I need a weapon with a better zoom.

I like the loading screens; neat to get a shot of various points of the invasion. I also enjoyed the fact that wandering around looking at things, and failing to 'grab the assault rifle' (as I was rather rudely ordered to do) resulted in a chopper blowing holes in me when I finally found the time to amble over and retrieve the nasty thing. I guess it took the time to descend into an attack position while I contemplated the menu. Nice!

Trashi,

What other games have allowed you to buy things during a match? This is the first game I've seen it in.

Shadowrun too...I miss that game, I wonder if there is anyone still playing that.

I'm still confused how to purchase upgrades in the armory. I now see where it tells me how many points I have but you don't seem to retain points after a battle and it doesn't tell me how much things like new perks cost.

Surprisingly? I can confirm that as of 4 days ago there were still people playing shadowrun online.

Is there a brightness option? I played the first two missions this morning and that was really my only complaint but I didn't see anything in the options screen for it.

I've noticed that the grass pivots to face the player as he turns. I hope this becomes an important plot point later; 'he who controls the plants.. he is the one. The plants can smell his blood, and they sing, oh how they sing of the liberation he will bring.'

Hmm.. is there a trick to get this working? I hit F12, and the game hitches for just a moment (making me think something is happening), but when I go to View->Screenshots it doesn't list any images for Homefront. Are they stored locally somewhere, and can they be accessed 'manually'?

According to Steam, they're in the game's folder in steamapps, but if they're not showing up in the screenshot browser, I doubt they'd be there. Maybe check to make sure F12 is the right key?

I actually choked on my drink.

EA in general. And Black Ops matchmaking was a mess for quite awhile.

I think the only successful one recently has been Halo Reach.

On the PC everything has been pretty smooth for this one.

I managed to get it working! I had to restart Steam, and reassign the hot-key, and then it started working and showing up in the browser.

Let's see if this first shot comes through okay:

I think she wants you to climb that treehouse man. it's of ultimate importance!

I think I officially hate everything about this game, what a waste of $50.

Sinatar, you have got to give us more than that. After looking at the MP vid on this page I want to buy this (for the MP).

The multi is definitely the best part of this game and five of us were enjoying it last night. I especially like the feel of the weapons because they feel very powerful and does not take a 10 hits to take someone down. Hit detection is also well done.

The battlepoints system also works very well and does not seem to be unbalanced like some people previously thought. Like slinger said the control point maps are big enough to make 32 players feel good and there are good choke points. It plays out a lot like Karkland where you capture the three point and then it opens the next section. However the other team can do the same so it works like tug of war.

This is all from th PC so I can't speak on behalf of the consoles but I am happy I got this game.

I find it quite amusing to see vehicles like tanks stuck by chain link fences to the point they might run up the side of one and sit at a 45 degree angle on top of the fence.

They make strong fences.

(Battlefield has ruined me for stuff like that)

But the maps generally seem pretty well done. I think I liked the Suburb map that I think is the Xbox exclusive map the best.

Ya if this had destructible environment... i'd probably wet myself.

There's an exlusive map? We have a suburb map on the PC too.

I bought it. Might be on for some multi this evening, depending largely on whether or not my slow ass internet connection has managed to finish the download by the time I get home this afternoon.

Maybe "exclusive" means "no PS3".

I looked, it is Suburb that's supposed to be exclusive.

I came in here to whinge about the fact that all my BC2 buddies were playing Homefront last night and that I was thinking I was definitely going to have to buy it now — but perhaps I'll wait a bit and see how it shakes out.

It's not a bad game. Pretty fun once we got on a good server. Doesn't seem initially to have the depth of BFBC2. Or the crazy "battlefield moments" that happen in BFBC2.

I expect it to be in my MP mix for a couple of months or so, but I don't see myself playing this a year from now. I think the reviews are about right on the MP. My first impression is that it's a pretty good MP game. Not a great game.

So if you're wanting a change up from BFBC2, come join us and shoot the evil Korean overlords. Just don't expect the life of a BFBC2 game if your tastes run like mine.

I don't really want a change from BC2, but at this point it's filled pretty exclusively with the hardcore and second-hand-store noobs. And it's not as fun without friends.

So there's a good chance I'll be going to GameStop during lunch.

A shame when that brings out a "Wow" reaction.

Looks too complicated. They should just have clear options like "Gamer" "Hardcore" and "Advanced"

I thought of the exact same thing once I saw the options.

Thought this explained some of the setup pretty well. I was misunderstanding the perks stuff:
