Homefront - Catch all

I think the difference between this and someone hunkering down in CoD to build up a killstreak will shine in the bounty system. Designating successful players as targets is going to make it very hard for one person to dominate I think. Whoever is building up their score chain is gonna get dog piled before it gets out of hand.

It should be quite a rush to realize the better you do, the bigger the target/threat you make of yourself. :)

But the game isn't about one person dominating, is it? In COD deathmatch, flagging the major danger might work. In an objective based game, it'll might the numpties from going after the objectives. Presumably controlling the objectives is what wins the game.

I think it's a step forward and I'm looking forward to trying it, but my concern is it'll just redirect the idiots rather than re-educating them.

It will be interesting to see how they work it out, but I might be overly optimistic. Being able to call in assets could be great fun. The kill streaks in games like MoH would have been much more reasonable except for the numerous choke points and god awful spawn placement.

I'm not sure they'll be able to re-educate anyone though as idiots will be idiots. From what I've played and what I've seen on various message boards, people either choose to play objectively or continue on their lone wolf ways. I think the only thing they can do is to make it harder to build to an unstoppable streak.

We'll see soon enough though.

I'm intrigued by the idea of buying vehicles on the fly (no more having people hang around at helipads), as well as the game flagging dangerous players and moving objectives around a map.

Funny, the Battle Point system is exactly what's making me second guess this one.

We'll see. I'm not holding my breath, though. It's extremely likely to end up with snipers/campers racking up the Battle Points and then magically pulling tanks, rocket launchers, and what not out of their ass. Maybe I'm just an bitter old man, but dammit, if you need to kill a tank then you spawn as an engie or whatever class has an AT weapon. You're not a super-solider that can kill a couple of people and then order up an RPG that just materializes in your kit.

Better than the Sony goat slaughter, I'd say.

I was really wowed by the latest multiplayer trailer. I'll be getting this out of the redbox next week, but if I like it I'll probably get it from K-mart soon after.

I don't have any plans to play multiplayer, but for some reason I feel a strange surge of hope for the single player content, based on little tidbits that I've seen. Will we get a story where 'mature' doesn't mean launching 100 heads off of necks every hour of gameplay? Will there be journals, handwritten notes, signs of the collapse weighing on the average American family? Will I cradle a child's toy to my breast, and mourn the passing of an era? Will I swell with American Pride, and want to piss into a radiator to keep an old truck going?

I think so! And the Metro 2033 pre-order bonus is helping me tell myself to keep thinking so, because I want to play that game. And even if one of the two sucks, hey, only $25 each.

I should be getting this from gamefly next week. I'm really hoping that the single player brings some depth and something a bit different.

Ouch, rough start with balloon promotion.

All publicity is good publicity. Someone at THQ will be getting a promotion.

They might need it. I get most of my game info/discussion via podcast, and I have not heard any of the 6ish shows I listen to talk about Homefront at all. Maybe they needed some closer-to-release events to get them talking...?

I've heard some talk that the campaign is really short. Multiplayer is going to have to be absolutely amazing to get a long term franchise going.

Really short for a military first person shooter nowadays would have to be less than 4 hours, honestly. I run through CoD campaigns in 6 playing on normal, and MoH was even shorter.

I did not buy Black Ops, so I haven't dug into an FPS multiplayer scene since MW2, a year and a half ago almost. I need a fix. It's this or Crysis 2, and the lame connection issues in the Crysis 2 demo have me wary of the team porting it to consoles.

ya single player is what you do when your ISP goes down. Rest is on the MP.

I was really hoping for a stellar single player game...then again defending White Castle also sounds fun in multiplayer.

Forget about the White Castle! Defend the Hooters!

I like the way this man thinks.

Does anyone (Tkyl?) know if the multiplayer will be running at 60fps? My googlefu is failing me atm.

FYI I'll create a Homefront channel on Vent over the weekend. That way when tuesday hits we can all jump in. I think most of us picking it up are already friended up in Steam and can always go that way.

Awesome. Will be there.

Launch trailer is live, but showing nothing new in particular:

Reviews are starting to creep in, though mostly from smaller sites so far - generally pretty positive. According to a commenter over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Edge magazine 'hates it'.

This one's going to be interesting.

Anyone picking this up for 360 tomorrow? I preordered mine from Amazon this morning.

I'm getting it. Not sure if I'll be on tomorrow night or not. Might still have house guests.

If it's in a Redbox near work tomorrow I'll be getting it from there. If not, I may cave and buy it at K-mart anyway. Quite a good deal there, by the way. $10 rewards credit and a free $20 XBL or PSN card.

All of my local friends game on 360. If I like it enough I might double dip on PC.

I'm thinking BLOPS is getting traded in for this one.

I'm excited for this game. Hopefully it doesn't fail like Medal of Honor did. Add me on Steam if you plan on getting this game. I'd like to avoid playing with randoms.

Are there enough people playing on PC to justify a Steam group?

Ranalin said he made a channel in Vent for it. I will be on there playing around 8EST

I've been watching a view MP videos. I am interested by the points system (although I have fears that they could facilitate a rout by one side), but the visuals ... does anyone think that the animations look bad? It seems to me like perhaps they're missing frames of animation for the soldiers' movements.

Still thinking about ordering. Filthy enablers.

Should have mine in from gamefly on Wednesday for the 360.
