Random thing you loathe right now.

Gotta love waking up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason then not being able to get back to sleep. At least I don't work tomorrow. On the bright side, no panic attack/nervous breakdown accompanying it this time. Plus, figuring out I can post here via my 3DS is cool, I suppose...

Yeah, I was up at 2am with the threat of a panic attack this morning as well. At least it gave me an hour to get my head around the mechanics of Demigod which, I've since discovered, is pretty entertaining.

The fact that Phoenix Rev's car keeps having trouble (it's old, so that's not a surprise) and he can't afford to replace the stupid car, and I can't afford to help him. Bah. Stupid cars.

MY HEAD: I would finally get to sleep in on Saturday, go play Frisbee, then party with a bunch of people I like, including all their friends, who are cool people I haven't met. It's rare that I get to go out with people my age and/or women, so I was really excited. (I work far from civilization with only men.) Then I'd wake up hung over on Sunday in time to go to a great diner (again, something I don't have nearby), then headd to a sweet bookstore, then home to the house mates for the super bowl.

MY REALITY: I get called at 8 pm Friday night with the heads up that we need to complete a 100% inventory starting Saturday morning at 8 AM. I work from 8 am to 10 pm, then back Sunday at 6 am until about now, just in time to go home and sleep through the Superbowl. This was just the weekend I needed before starting a rough week ahead of 630 am to 7 pm work days.

It is what it is. I was more upset about the whole short notice of it all, and the sudden emotional crash of missing a weekend I had been hyping myself up for. I'll get over it soon. It feels good to rant though.

Squee - you company/boss doesn't believe in flex time?

Just about every where I've worked wouldn't see any problem giving Monday or Tuesday off after asking you to work OT on Friday as well as the weekend

My current place doesn't have a formal policy, but there's usually a gentleman's agreement and understanding with your boss. My last place, the mentality was more "GSD" - they didn't care when the work happened, just that it did happen.

We're all salaried, and we normally work long hours, just usually not THIS long. We have a crazy project due on the 11th of Feb. The sucky thing was mostly thinking that only a small group needed to work the weekend, a small group that didn't include me. Unfortunately the call to have the whole company come in was made at 8 pm on Friday.

I loathe the right trigger on my 3DS, which no longer works.

Our cable company, Charter, keeps taking away channels from us. It was one thing when it was channels we didn't watch, like the business news channel or whatnot, but this time it seems they've taken away my SyFy channel. Now, sure, SyFy has gotten a bit questionable lately on their programming, but dammit, I do enjoy Being Human.

EDIT: Hoped it would come back on at some point buuuuuut... nope. Eff you Charter. EFF. YOU.

City council meetings. New town, new job but same old crap. Reporting can sometimes feel like a job.

First they came for my MTV, but I did not watch MTV so I did not speak up. Then they came for my E!, but I did not watch E! so I did not speak up. Then they came for my TLC, but I did not watch TLC so I did not speak up. Then, they came for my SyFy, and by then, there was no one left to speak up.

Hooray! Calling for >12" on snow between Friday and Saturday. [/sarcasm]

I hate my bank account. I try to save cash and still end up low.

Me, two weeks ago: "Now that I'm on this new team, are there any email distribution lists I should be added to, or any recurring meetings I should get an invite for?"

----

My boss, today: "Hey, are you going to make it to the mandatory 90 minute training tonight starting at 6:30pm?"
Me: "Uh...what meeting?"
My boss: "Oh, I take it from the blank stare that you didn't get the invite..."

Errr... no. We have spoken up. Many times. Yet they keep taking channels away AND jacking up our bills. It's getting to a point that pretty soon we won't be able to afford the cable especially given our shrinking channel selection.

EDIT: And we still have MTV. Unfortunately.

I am...Locutus of Roku.
Your life, as it has been, is over.
Resistance...is futile.
Prepare to be assimilated.

Seriously dude, drop cable like a hot rock and join the rest of us who just stream what we need. It ends up being vastly cheaper to just have internet and streaming shows via Netflix, Amazon, etc.

And if you *need* to watch something as it airs, Amazon Instant'll have you covered in 90% of cases (Game of Thrones being the major exception)

I cut the cable about 4 months ago and have yet to be bereft of television entertainment. Between Netflix and Amazon I've got pretty much everything I could want.

If it weren't for live hockey games, I could conceivably do it.

Yeah that does kind of suck, but I've taken to listening on the radio or watching the games at a bar with friends. If the whole NHL GameCenter thing didn't black out local games I'd be set. They even have a streaming app for the PS3.

That's what I did for live games. Mooch off friends, or hit a bar.

Yeah, unless you live outside the US. Speaking of sh*t I loathe. Even if I use my UnblockUS DNS proxy, I still can't use Amazon Instant Video without a US credit card. And Hollywood wonders why it's so hard to make money.

No GWJCC for my Wednesday commute. #firstworldproblems

Searching for Real Estate.
It seems like a never ending rabbit hole of incomplete listings, crappy pictures, incorrect maps, redirected redirections for redirected listings on behalf of Blah Blah via Blah Blah archived on Blah Bla and shown for comparison on Blah Blah.
And I'm STILL finding properties with For Sale signs in their yards but absolutely no information anywhere to be found online.

On the topic of cable, I've just acquired it again. Because the cable company offered to charge me 20 bucks less to bundle it with my internet than they would to charge me for internet alone. It's batsh*t crazy logic, but whatever, I'm game to pay less.

Mine's the same way. Cheaper to bundle basic cable than just pay for internet. They couldn't get in my backyard to disconnect the extended cable package, and showed it was disconnected when I called to tell them it was still on, so I've been getting free cable for over a year, and the cable company doesn't care.

I have way, way too much stuff to watch on Netflix.

Yeah, I net out $10 cheaper having "basic" cable bundled with internet over internet alone. I don't even have a cable box or the sh*t hooked up

Ergh. The gas station is claiming they found no contamination. State Farm is paying for the repairs either way, but not covering my rental car nor presumably the $50 at the pump that I lost.

Whaaaaa?!? That's sh*te.

"Wasn't me, guv. The 'andle came off when I touched it. It were like that when I found it."

Of course the gas station is claiming no contamination.

Jonman wrote:

Yeah, not surprised (ESPECIALLY since the gas station self-insures), just frustrated all the same.

All I can say is, I'm glad I got a copy of that receipt, in case they "lose" the evidence that I used the correct pump.
