Random thing you loathe right now.

Aw crap, did I screw up already? Sorry, folks, it wasn't my intent to flout the forum rules.

I'm a bad person and I feel bad.

Break out the wet-noodle-whip. Prepare to be confused as to why we couldn't afford a real whip.

PLUS: You made a mistake?! Jeebus! No one has ever done that here.

My grandfather died this morning. He was old, in a home, and went peacefully - good enough. The loathe is more for the wear on my family around the holidays. It's already tricky enough with people in different locations and my own medical issues, but now here someone's passed away amidst it all. This weekend's video chat with my parents is not going to be an easy one, and it was already going to suck as I'm recovering from another treatment.

My folks need a goddamn break already.

And I'm in favor of cutting him some slack, just because he used "flout" correctly.

(I've graded a lot of student papers, so that's one that makes a strong impression.)

What the hell does a woodwind have to do with anything?

Sorry to hear that Ian. May the new year bring your family only joy.

Doesn't it have to have a reed to be a woodwind? Back to music class, so I can recall for sure.

Sorry to hear that Ian. My best to everyone.

Turns out that my car nonsense was...no, it wasn't the least of my worries today but this day has turned out to be a disaster for a number of reasons. Subjecting myself to the endless torrent of opinions on the shooting today didn't help either. Not going to relate the whole mess here but my biggest concern is that we may have just found out that our landlady of this house, a place that we moved to get away from a douchebag, scummy, passive-aggressive landlord, may be just as bad as that guy was. I was shown an immense amount of disrespect by one of the two asshat relatives of her's who came over to install our new dishwasher today and while i'm waiting to confirm it, I'm pretty sure the disrespect was shown at her request. If this is who we are dealing with here, we may end up having to move next year. Again. And that's only part of this day. I just want to curl up in a ball and pretend today never existed.

Flouts are the exception to this rule

Ya got me on that one.
My music expertise is the flutaphone with some dabbling in drums.

Seems a strange assumption, considering the other things you've said about her. Mayba said relative was just a jackass.

That's really, really what I'm hoping. I'm still waiting to hear back from her at which point I will confirm it. My response will needless to say be very different depending on who the message originated from.

It's how the universe balances itself. Man what a great lady. Man that guy is an ass-hat.

Don't look at my double-post!

Hey, now, let's not bring dragons into this.

Right now, I'm happy to drive my Lancer up to the biggest dragon anywhere and just go "Enjoy good sir."

Oh, a lancer? Well, there you go. Hope it's a manual transmission, because...

Mitsubishi leases out a lot of automatic transmission lancers on a 6-month buyback program with every major rental company, and uses them as their replacement courtesy cars before selling them all under "gently used." Hardly. People do some dumb, horrible sh*t in 20k-40k. Since it comes out of the factory kind of looking like a fast-n-furious wannabe, they're the preference for young guys hot to tear ass with a lead foot and no idea how to actually handle a vehicle like an adult. Go soft, you fools, it's just a little four-banger!

I hated having them in my fleet. People abused them because they were the poor man's dream of a tricked out evo or eclipse when it was just a factory street car.

Thankfully, this Lancer was not previously a rental car. It was owned by a guy who had kids and upgraded to a van. My previous Pontiac G6 was an ex-rental and yeah, never again. However, it is indeed a CVT automatic, not a manual. The guy at the garage said the following: "Oh yeah, CVTs are fine. Up until about 150,000K. If you want my advice, sell it right around then." Apparently when a CVT fails, it's basically impossible to fix and they cost about $10,000 to replace. I only paid $13,000 for the car.

As for the landlady, I have now confirmed that she's the same kind of two-faced, smarmy, passive-aggressive tightass prick that our last two were. I won't bother recanting the whole saga here but we had a umm...spirited...discussion this morning about the incredible disrespect her brother-in-law showed me yesterday and how she shares the sentiment, though she apparently did not ask him to speak to me and had planned to do so herself.

TLDR, because our house was slightly disorganised because of the week we had, she thought it was a pig sty when she came by to supervise the dishwasher removal and said that we are showing disrespect to her property by not keeping it clean.

Clearly she doesn't know my girlfriend and I at all if she thinks we live like slobs. Also, the house wasn't dirty, like at all. I read her several provisions of the Landlord & Tenant Act that shows her opinion on cleanliness is meaningless unless the house is unsanitary but needless to say, this is another landlord that's burned us after we've done her several favours we didn't have to in order to foster a good working relationship. I can live with it but now my girlfriend wants to get out of here as soon as possible and preferably not to rent anymore. I can't afford to buy a house for at least another 3-4 years and so help me, I am not moving again in 2013 for what would be the fifth time in 5 years.

This combined with everything that happened yesterday has ramped my depression back up again in a big way. I'm at a client's getting a call done and I just want to be back home in bed right now.

Arrrrgh! Parallax Abstraction - you make me want to go stand out in the pouring rain and just scream at the sky until I go hoarse.

I really, really hope something turns up to brighten your day, I know all too much about dealing with depression.

Thanks man. I've actually been doing much better lately and to be honest, this year as a whole has been great to me. This week has been a trainwreck of unrelated events that just piled up at once. I'm venting a lot but a lot of people have it way worse than me and upset as I am, I'm now confident I can process it and move on. My life is orders of magnitude better than it was just a couple of short years ago. Thank you though.

Ladies gonna love this!

I really needed the laugh that ad provided. Thanks.

Lasherthecat says: The random thing I hate right now is spilling a cup of hazelnut coffee on the keyboard!!

Lasherthe cat also hates coffee on her socks!

A bunch of school children and their teachers were murdered on my birthday. I had to spend yesterday figuring out how I could possibly celebrate knowing that those kids are never gonna have another birthday ever again. They will never open those presents sitting under their trees. No one is going home to their families. I am so pissed off. People dead, lives destroyed. Damn it.

Flu season. Not because i'm sick, but because it put my Dad in the hospital. He oughtta be fine, but i'm still gonna go see him tomorrow.

VM Ware has over 6 different formats for virtual machines.

Which means I got 7 VMs in the wrong format, and get to spend hours converting each one to the right format before I can tackle the next step on this project.

*grumble*

My cubicle neighbor eats rice cakes for breakfast every morning and cucumbers as an afternoon snack every day, at her desk. The crunchy eating noises both make are incredibly irritating. I want to ask her to stop, but also don't want to sound petty. That being said, if I was doing something that irritated other people, I would want them to tell me. Help!

I wish I could. This plagues me, as I'm especially sensitive to sounds like that.

Oh god - I have Cheerios for breakfast and almonds in the afternoon. And I sometimes slurp my coffee...

I'm a monster...

When we had a telemarketing team and I sat near them, I'd pop on headphones and crank some tunes whenever they got to a point of annoying me.

Oh man, I'm glad I did a double-take. First time through that sentence, I thought you said, "poop."

Yep, my mom just got put in the hospital for the same thing. Going to go see her tonight.
