Playing Donkey Kong Country with my youngest and the minecart level can still get in the bin.
So I saw a pickup driving this morning that had me shaking my head. Short bed Chevy hauling what appeared to be 13-14 foot lengths of raw wood. So right off the bat more than half this shit is sticking out of the bed, it is secured by being bundled together and then tied to the passenger door, which is to say it wasn't secured at all. Oh yeah an no red flag at the end of the load(though to be fair I don't know if that is a North Carolina requirement)
As I followed from a very safe distance I watched it nearly pop out of the bed a dozen times as it swung back and forth hitting several mailboxes as he went down the road. Some f*cking people.

Fixed for my truthiness

I had my first experience with somebody rolling coal yesterday. Given Massachusetts has pretty rigourous vehicle emissions standards, I'm not sure how he gets away with it.
Edit - fixed double quote, and as an aside, what is the correct noun for a truck rolling coal, a coal roller?

That is so weird, I had my first encounter with a coal roller on Sunday. Cut me off on the freeway, then proceeded to go slowly, belching thick black exhaust. Real sweetheart.
I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened earlier, Arizona and all, but I hardly do any long distance driving, and I think those idiots might have a hard time getting away with it in Tucson city limits.

Douchecanoe.

I would be tempted to track that vehicle down and cover the interior with butyric acid.

The banana-in-the-tailpipe trick wouldn't work because his tailpipe had a diameter of about six inches. It'd have to be butyric acid. Or an Amorphophallus Titanum blossom.
Contractors that don't notify you if they can't get to the site as promised.
Yesterday I got three messages telling me to make sure to keep the driveway clear because the crews start work between 7 and 9. It is now nearly 1 and there is no crew and no response to texts, email, or voicemails as to the status of this project.
I would not be posting this if this wasn't the second time this crew had done this. The first part of the project was pushed nearly a week and only after I called and texted did they reply that they needed to reschedule because 'the permit hadn't been approved.' I understand that schedules can slip. I understand that people are busy. I don't understand how you don't give at least a courtesy heads up when the schedule needs to shift.
Bunch of stuff I could have been doing if I knew they weren't going to show up. Grrr.
Re: contractors
Old movie scene I thought of from Mr. Destiny:
I got a notice from Capital One that if I opened a checking account with them, they'd give me $250. The only thing I had to do was have 2 direct deposits to the new account, and then they would deposit $250 in my account. So I figure, what have I got to lose? Set up the new account. Went to Social Security to change my direct deposit. Earliest I could get the change to happen was October.
So I thought I better call Capital One to make sure that was okay. Turns out both direct deposits had to happen before October 10th, even though that was not mentioned at all in the offer.
So now I need to call Social Security on Monday and see if I can get the new direct deposit to start in September. If that doesn't work, I'll have to call Capital One back and see if I can escalate to someone who is able to waive that 2 month time limit.
I thought maybe "free $250" was too good to be true, but I didn't see any red flags when I read all the info. I mean, I read every disclosure, every restriction, every document they gave me to sign off on before opening the account.
Oh well.

Sounds like a UDAP complaint to me.
Yeah Capital One and Discover both run deals like that for their savings or checking accounts. The main thing is depositing X amount or X # of deposits by a certain date, and the other is keeping a balance for a certain amount of time, like 90 days after you receive the bonus.
Apparently they make way more than $250 in interest off your money so they can afford that.
Laptops that don't have actual mechanical mouse buttons. No, I don't like tapping, two-finger-tapping, or three-finger-tapping on a touchpad. And yes, I'm totally comfortable using a laptop touchpad without an external mouse.

Saaaaaaaaaame! It's infuriating to keep missing it or hitting the wrong "button" with no feedback.
Drove to Gencon convention out of state. Car is having transmission problems after I arrived. Wonderful
Edit
And let's make it a double. Red roof inn cancelled my room without telling me.
I just cannot get into the Olympics this year.
As cool as it is that so much is available to watch in theory, in practice, my OC and AD tendencies keep me hopping around aimlessly and not actually watching and enjoying anything for more than a few minutes. The multi-view channels on the Peacock app are hot garbage and have never worked for me.
That, and the occasional racist, anti-trans, or useless “political” stories that have come out have just turned me off to the whole thing.
The Peacock coverage we get on the Roku Peacock channel is deep, so I can turn on my ADHD focus and just be fascinated by one thing for hours. Works really well. I keep it on during the day and we watch our faves live, then catch up on secondaries in the evening via full replays. I rarely hit the summaries unless that's all that's on offer for a niche sport.
Yeah the curated channels are shit... it's like what you get on NBC, USA, etc. with slightly less commercials.
But if you drill down to a sport and juts choose an event you can really soak in it. That's been our best way to enjoy Peacock so far.
Of course you almost have to have an accompanying schedule to know what to look for and when.
woke up this morning and noticed that the dishwasher failed to drain. My wife ran it again to make sure and it spilled water across the floor so it is definitely a drainage problem. I checked the filters and they are fine as well as the drain hose to the disposal, so I am 90% sure that it is a piece of broken chopstick or something stuck in the drain pump. That is going to be about a $800 repair around these parts even if nothing is actually broken, so I am going to have to do the fix myself. If this requires a new pump, I think we'll end up with a new washer.
Did you check the air gap outflow at the sink (if there is one)? If that gets clogged (usually at the top) then the washer won't drain properly. Usually it has a vented metal cap that lifts or screws off, with a pipe that has a vented cap on it.

There isn't one. It is either the check valve in the hose or the pump. Either way, I am going to have to uninstall the machine and f*ck around inside.
Edit: I kept thinking about what I wrote here and it boiled down to sounding like first-world man problems that don't really matter.
In the end, the loathe is that women in the game industry, and the world in general, still have to deal with things like what is described in this IGN article. It ain't right.
The current tech job market. It’s kinda f*cked, yo.

To double up on this. My tech company is trying to get people to quit. So they don't have to do layoffs. Forcing people back into office, insulting raises, and god knows what else. Which is honestly too bad cause it was a great job before all this.
Wow. That sounds like it will both kill company morale and not prevent layoffs

I am so tired of game developers pulling this shit. Just for once, can't a developer just develop games and not be some wretched hive of scum and villainy?
Wow. That sounds like it will both kill company morale and not prevent layoffs :(
Yes but it'll help shareholder value today /s
Yesterday I received an updated credit card from Capital One. On the paper that came with the new card, it said “Thank you for being a valuable customer!” Like I’m a financial asset.
I think I prefer to be seen as a “valued” customer.
